What Is Tablet PC??? A tablet personal computer (tablet PC) is a portable personal computer equipped with a touch screen as a primary input device, and running a (modified) classic desktop operating system designed to be operated and owned by an individual. The Tablet PC is more easy and comfortable to use because instead of using the keyb oard and mouse as interaction tools, you can use the special pen to input direct ly on the screen.

History Before full-fledged tablet PCs could become a reality, however, engineers first had to build a functioning tabletbased input system. One of such tablet interfac e appeared in the '60s the RAND tablet(shown below), allowed for handwriting rec ognition using an electronic tablet slate and a specialized pen.

Facts about Tablet PC. Take a look«(1/2) A lot has been written in the press about the Tablet PC since the concept was fi rst publicly proposed by Microsoft in May 1999. A surprising amount of it is mis informed, and some of it is simply wrong. To create a solid foundation for the r emainder of this report, here are ten basic facts about the Tablet Pc: (1) The Tablet PC is a full-fledged Windows and/or any notebook. It s not a PDA. (2)FOR XP: The Tablet PC s operating system is a superset of Windows XP Profess ional. This means that the Tablet PC can run any application that s capable of r unning on Windows XP. Special pen-enabled applications are not required. (3) Tab let PCs are available in two form-factors convertibles pure tablets . (4) All Ta blet PCs have keyboards, integrated or attachable. Pure tablets use external key boards , connected via USB or wireless.

Facts (2/2) (5) All current commercial Tablet PCs are members of the ultraportable class of notebooks, different from the thin-andlight class. (6) The pen on a Tablet PC wo rks like a mouse. (7)The screen on a Tablet PC is not touch-sensitive; it works only with the special electronic pen unlike a PDA. (8) Handwriting recognition d oes not have to be used on a Tablet PC. (9) All Tablet PCs are legacy-free, that is, they have no PS/2, serial or parallel ports. (10)All Tablet PCs include spe ech recognition, which is integrated into the operating system.

SOFTWARE APPLICATIONS All tablet personal computers have a wireless adapter for internet and local net work connection. Software applications for tablet PCs include: Office suites Web browsers Games Messaging Mobile connection access

Advantages 1. Usage in environments not conducive to a keyboard and mouse such as lying in bed, standing, or handling with a single hand. 2. Lighter weight, lower power mo dels can function similarly to dedicated reading devices like the Amazon Kindle. 3. Touch environment makes navigation easier than conventional use of keyboard and mouse or touch pad in certain contexts such as image manipulation, musical, or mouse oriented games. 4. Digital painting and image editing are more precise and intuitive than painting or sketching with a mouse. 5. The ability for easier or faster entry of diagrams, mathematical notations, and symbols. 6. Allows, wi th the proper software, universal input, independent from different keyboard loc alizations. 7. Some users find it more direct and pleasant to use a stylus, pen or finger to point and tap on objects, rather than use a mouse or touchpad, whic h are not directly connected to the pointer on screen.

Disadvantages Input speed handwriting or typing on a virtual keyboard can be significantly slo wer than typing speed on a conventional keyboard. Ergonomics - a tablet computer , or a folded slate PC, does not provide room for a wrist rest. Weak video capab ilities No discrete graphics card. Screen risk -since their screens also serve a s input devices, they run a higher risk of screen damage from impacts and misuse . Hinge risk Screen hinge is required, increasing the number of possible mechani cal and electrical failure points.

Summary Apart from it s disadvantages, Tablet PC as in business or professional computing. e giving it more exposure as an option for future it has a huge revolution waiting as by day.

s are of great use both in home as well The portability ability of Tablets ar Business mobiles and PDAs. In coming new applications are taking birth day
