Slide 12: Google Sites - Free web page creation So far we have discussed how Google has helped in the classroom with Google Translator and Google Blogger. Now we are going to shift gears a bit and introduce an application that allows both the student and educator create free and easily created web pages. Google Sites allows you to create free web pages with no programing or database skills. As a result of it being easy to create these pages, this application is great for newcomers to build their first web site. I always wanted to be able to create my own web page but I never knew it was this easy. Another plus about this application is that you do not have to install any software on your computer. All you have to do is create a Google + account and you are ready to go. You can access your webpage anywhere you have internet access. So, it’s great for people who are always moving. Slide 13: Google Sites for the teacher For a teacher, Google sites can be an important tool to help students have instant access to the materials of their class. This App allows a teacher to create connecting web pages where they can add all of their lecture notes, images, videos on the content, instructions for assignments and contact information. These types of pages allow the teacher to help students get organized, informed and up to date with their lessons. Slide 14: Google Sites for the student Once again because of the ease of creating a web page using Google Sites, students will also have the opportunity to create their own web pages. They can create their own personal web pages or create a web page as an assignment. It can be either a stand alone project or a cumulative web page to explain the main parts of an entire unit. It’s also a great to tool to promote collaboration in your classroom. Since the web pages are online, students can work on their group web page project from different locations and different times. The era of students having to come together at the library to work on a poster project is over. Google sites allows for a new modern technological method of collaboration. Slide 15: Google Sites: Tutorial In order to help show how to create one of these web pages, we have embedded this “How to” video. This video will show you step by step how to create your first web page. The video will also help the visual learners because they will get to see exactly what to do instead of reading directions. Slide 16: Google Drive in schools Google drive is a great cloud collaboration system for organizing your files and sharing them with your colleagues or students. The collaborative nature of Google Drive makes it ideal for a school or even the classroom. Google Drive stores all your Google docs, presentations, spreadsheets, forms and more in the “cloud”. Within drive you can create new files, view and edit files shared with you, and sort your

files by using multiple options such as; files that were shared with you or files made by you. You can share your files and work collaboratively on one file at the same time such as while planning a unit with your colleagues while using a planning document.

Slide 17: Google Drive in schools (detail of sorting option) Here is a close up of the sort options available. Notice the categories of type, visibility and ownership. These options allow you to easily find your files. Slide 18: Google Drive: Docs in the classroom Here is one way that Google Docs can be used for classroom collaboration. (video).
