BIG COMEBACKS Come-from-behind victories have always been a big part of Mets history. Possibly the most dramatic in club history came on June 30, 2000, when New York overcame an 8-1 eighth-inning defecit to overtake the Atlanta Braves, 11-8. In that contest, Mike Piazza’s game-winning, three-run home run capped off an amazing 10-run eighth inning. The ten runs tied a club record for most runs scored in an inning. However, the biggest comeback triumph in club annals came on September 2, 1972 when the Mets trailed the Houston Astros, 8-0, after seven innings. Sparked by Ken Boswell’s three-run home run, the Mets sent 12 batters to the plate in the eighth, exploding for seven runs and cutting the deficit to 8-7. In the ninth, New York would bat around again, scoring four runs. Cleon Jones’ two-run double was the deciding blow as the Mets posted the greatest come-from-behind win in club history with an 11-8 victory.

DOMINICAN BASEBALL COMPLEX The New York Mets signed a lease agreement for a new baseball academy in San Cristobal, Dominican Republic on June 2, 2003. By executing this agreement, the Mets established a first-class training facility for the organization’s Dominican players. “By signing this lease agreement, we accomplish one of our long standing goals,” said Mets COO Jeff Wilpon. “This facility will be one of the best in the Dominican Republic and will be consistent with the high standards of the New York Mets organization.” The meticulously maintained year-round facility has two full playing fields, a half field, a covered set of lighted batting practice cages, a clubhouse and weight room, meeting rooms and offices along with living and dining quarters for players and staff. “Our academy in the Dominican Republic will vastly improve the playing and living conditions of our players,” said Mets General Manager Omar Minaya. “We believe it will help our scouting and recruiting efforts as well as the overall player development process in the Dominican. We are excited to move our operations into this beautiful new academy.”
