Scientific Miracles of the Qur’an The development of the Embryo • Details of the development of the embryo were discovered in 1677 (1000 years after Islam) by scientists using microscopes.

The Qur’an says: We created man from an extract of clay. Then we made him into a drop in place of settlement, firmly fixed. Then we made the drop into an Alaqah (leech, suspended thing and blood clot), then we made the Alaqah into a Mudgha (chewed substance).

Meanings of the word Alaqah The word Alaqah has 3 meanings which match scientific evidence of embryo development: 1)Leech: The human embryo in its beginning stages looks like a leech. It also acts like a leech by feeding from the blood of the mother.

2) Suspended thing: During the Alaqah stage, the embryo is suspended in the womb of the mother.

3) Blood clot: The external

part of the embryo looks like a blood clot. This is because there are large amounts of blood present in it. The blood does not circulate until the 3rd week making it precisely like a blood clot.

• From the previous diagrams we can see that all 3 meanings of the word Alaqah match the description of the embryo. • The next stage of embryo development described in the Qur’an is Mudgha. This Arabic word is translated as “A chewed substance”. If we have a look at the embryo at this stage, we come to know that it is in an awkward shape. This can be compared to a substance someone has chewed and then spat out, leaving the disposed substance to be in an unusual form.

• Professor Emeritus Moore, one of the leading authorities in embryo development, author of the Award winning book “The Developing Human” which is used as a reference book worldwide in this field, said:

• “It has been a great pleasure for me to help clarify statements in the Quran about human development. It is clear to me that these statements must have come to Muhammad from God, because almost all of this knowledge was not discovered until many centuries later. This proves to me that Muhammad must have been a messenger of God”. • Consequently, Professor Moore was asked the following question: “Does this mean that you believe that the Quran is the word of God?” He replied: “I find no difficulty in accepting this.

The Qur’an on Mountains Allah says in the Qur’an: Have we not made the earth as a bed, and the mountains as pegs? (78:6-7) Modern science tells us that mountains have deep roots underneath them. The roots can be several times higher than what is above the ground. The structure of the mountain underground looks like a peg. This was discovered by an astronomer in 1865.

Allah says in the Qur’an:

And He has set firm mountains in the earth so that it would not shake with you (16:15) Modern science tells us that the mountains act as stabilisers for the earth. This was discovered in the late 1960s.

The Quran on the origins of the universe Modern science tells us that the first form of the universe was a cloud of smoke. This is one of the undisputed facts of science. The Qur’an confirms this 1400 years ago. Allah (swt) says in the Qur’an:

Then He turned to the heaven when it was smoke (41:11)

This cloud of smoke then expanded and the entire universe was formed from it. Scientists describe this as the Big Bang Theory. This theory suggests that the universe was all one entity and then expanded due to large amounts of energy being formed inside it. Allah (swt) says in the Qur’an:

Have those who disbelieved not known that the heavens and the earth were one connected entity, then we separated them. (21:30)

The Qur’an on the Cerebrum/Cortex (largest part of the brain)

Allah (swt) says in the Qur’an:

No! If he does not stop, we will take him by the Naaseyah (front of the head) a lying, sinful Naaseyah. (99:15-16) 1. Allah (swt) has described the front part of the head to be lying and deceitful. 2. Modern science tells us that the function of the front of the head is used for planning, initiating movements and aggression. 3. Therefore, general sin and deceit will be initiated from the front part of the brain which is directly behind the forehead.
