Teenage girl given police caution for ‘sexting’ explicit selfie to boyfriend Police warn youngsters as young as 10 they could end up on the sex offenders register for "sexting" nude pictures of themselves if they are under 18 A schoolgirl has received a police caution after texting an explicit photograph of herself to her boyfriend, it has emerged. The teenager sent the image via her phone, but after the couple had a row, he forwarded it to his friends. Police were called in because she was under the age of 18 and therefore both were committing an offence of distributing an indecent image of a child. Both received a caution but police are now warning other teenagers they could end up on the sex offenders register if they send explicit pictures of themselves via text messages or social media. The article above was obtained from The Telegraph online – written by Martin Evans, Crime Correspondent on 22nd July 2014

THE LAW!

It may be common but ‘sexting’ is illegal. By sending an explicit image you are producing and distributing child pornography, even if the picture is taken and shared with yours/their permission.

It’s illegal to Sext when it involves someone under the age 18. When sending a sext photo and/or video you are producing and then sharing child pornography. You and anyone who then receives them and goes on to share them are at risk of being prosecuted, regardless of whether the picture and/or video was taken with their permission. You could be criminalised and potentially placed on the Sex Offender Register!
