TRANSPORTATION MEMORANDUM TO: JIM ROTTER, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR BUSINESS SERVICES FROM: SCOTT GRABE SUBJECT: BUS BID RECOMMENDATION DATE: 10-25-10

After reviewing the received bids I would like to recommend we accept the bid from School Bus Sales Inc. for the purchase of (3) three 78 passenger transit style buses. The total for the (3) three buses is $251,820.00. A part of this recommendation is based on the fact that the Blue Bird buses we do own have performed satisfactorily. I would also like to recommend that we include the installation of Webasto Scholastic heaters onto these three buses at a cost of $2,127.00 per bus. This cost is considerably lower than the cost I can have the same unit installed. This option would bring the total to $258,201.00. We received (1) one additional valid bid this year. The bid is listed below and does not include the heater option. Thomas Bus Sales Inc (Thomas Built).

$257,643.00

As a comparison, last year we accepted a bid from Thomas Bus Sales Inc. for the same type of buses without the heater option. The per unit cost last year was $87,403. The per unit cost this year is $83,940. A 4% reduction in cost.
