Schengen Visa Applications

According to the Schengen agreement, tourist and business visas issued by a mission of one of the following countries are valid for travel to Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. However, you must apply at the consulate of each country of main destination. There are different types of Schengen Visas, concerning the applicant’s personal situation and the purpose of his/her visit.

In the case of foreigners who need to travel frequently to one of several Schengen States, for example on business, short-stay visas may be issued for several visits, provided that the total length of these visits does not exceed three months in any half-year. This multiple entry visa may be valid for one year, and in exceptional cases, for more than a year for certain categories of persons.

NECESSARY DOCUMENTS FOR THE APPLICATION OF ANY SCHENGEN VISA: 1.

Signed and filled visa application form (can be provided by the Consular Section at the Embassy of Portugal) (in case of minors or incapacitated the form should be signed by their legal tutor);

2 recent photographs;

If married to an EU national, International Marriage Certificate, as well as the photocopy of the spouse’s passport;

4.

A valid passport (valid for at least 3 months after the end of the planned journey);

5.

For non Turkish citizens, Turkish residence card valid for at least three months after returning to the country of residence;

6.

Proof of labor-economic conditions:

- proof of the employing entity; proof of salary received in the last 3 months; proof of income (bank extracts of thelast 3 months); -

If you are receiving a scholarship, proof of scholarship with a current date;

If someone else is going to be a sponsor for you, the signed declaration from the sponsor and his/her recent bank extracts for last 3 months;

-

If you are a foreign student, you have to bring documents for proof of income in Turkey.

Proof of accommodation, hotel reservation or “term of responsibility”. If the stay is with a family member, proof of kinship should be made and it may be solicited as the proof of the conditions of accommodation. In case the subscriber of the “term of responsibility” is not Portuguese, he/she should submit legal documental situation in Portugal;

For business trips, an invitation should be presented with the motive of the journey, dates of arrival and departure, as well as the the host indicating the name of the one responsible for the invitation;

9.

In case of participating in political, economical, scientific, cultural, religious or sport events, proof of enrolment in the event should be presented;

10. Travel Medical Insurance (minimum coverage of 30.000 Euros to cover any expenses which might arise in connection with repatriation for medical reasons, urgent medical attention and/or emergency hospital care or death, during the stay(s) on the territory of the Member States).Please note: the travel health insurance needs to cover 1 day before and 1 day after of your intended travel; 11. Reservation of inbound and outbound flight; 12. Photocopies of passport and the ID Card. 13. Visa fee in Turkish Liras (60 Eur.).

ADDITIONAL DOCUMENTS: 1. The following documents regarding the applicant's personal situation should be presented by either of the categories: (a) If the applicant is employed: – Letter from employer and/or approval for leave; – SGK (social security) registration document, SGK "hizmet dökümü" and past SGK. (b) If the applicant is a farmer: – Farmer certificate issued by a chamber of agriculture; (c) If applicant is employed by or owner of a private company:

– The company registration in the chamber of commerce and a copy of the bulletin of the trade register; – Statement of tax payment; – SGK (social security) registration document and SGK "hizmet dökümü". (d) If the applicant is retired: – Proof of pension (either bank account statement or pensioner booklet). (e) If the applicant is a student: – Student certificate. (f) If the applicant is a minor/under age 18 and travelling alone or with one parent or legal guardian only: – Public notary approved statement from his/her parents (this condition shall not apply if the travelling parent is a single parent or holds the parental authority alone). (g) If the applicant is employed as a teacher or professor – Letter from employer and/or approval for leave; – Social security registration document. 2. The following documents regarding the purpose of the visit shall be presented by either of the categories: (a) For study purpose: – Invitation and/or guarantee according to national legislation (Note: there is further information and links to downloadable forms on the websites of Member States' embassies and consulates). (b) For EU education, training, or research programmes: – Original of the invitation letter from the university or research centre; – letter from the Turkish National Agency (Centre for EU Education and Youth Programmes) or TÜBITAK identifying that the individual applying for visa is supported by an European Union Programme. ( c) Visit to Family or Friends: - Proof of the existence of family relations (Tam Tekmil Vukuatli Nüfus Kayit Örnegi) (d) Attending Cultural or Sport events or Conferences: – an invitation from the organiser of the event or/the contract concluded by the cultural service provider or/invitation to a creative work.

- For sporting events, invitation from the sports club/sports federation or/accreditation confirming the participation in the sport event. – Certificate from the sending sports club or sport federation. (e) Truck Driving to and/or Through Schengen Area: - Guarantee from the company and UND (road transport association), if the company is a member; - Company drivers list; - SGK (social security) registration document, SGK "hizmet dökümü" and past SGK payments list for the driver; - C2 certificate (export permission); - National and international driving license of the driver; - Invitation or business partnership certificate from a company in the EU.

Important Information for residents in Istanbul and surrounding areas The Embassy of Portugal in Ankara is pleased to announce that, starting from 15th March 2011, the Consulate General of Hungary in Istanbul is competent to accept Schengen visa applications from resident citizens living in Istanbul and the surrounding areas that wish to travel to Portugal, under an agreement recently concluded between the Embassies of Portugal and Hungary in Ankara. The documents necessary to be enclosed to the Schengen visa application will remain the same as those listed on the website of the Embassy of Portugal in Ankara. For nationalities in which consultation is required, the consultation will be executed by the representing state (Hungary). The visa fee will be charged by the Hungarian authorities. The Consular Section of the Portuguese Embassy in Ankara continues to accept all visa applications in the normal way. This agreement is aimed to ease the visa application process for those who reside in Istanbul and the surrounding areas.
