OVERVIEW Save the planet – Make & Use Bamboo! Bello Bamboo – founded in Australia knows first hand, like Bali, that wood products are running out and forests are over-harvested. Mining for un-eco-friendly materials for products is something that devastates our planets air, water and soil. Metals and plastic processing and waste are toxic to people and the earth and something many of us want to move away from. The simple solution is to do as people did in the past – and apply the ancient Chinese wisdom that “Bamboo has 10,000 uses”. Only our imagination limits us! Beautifully designed pieces in your home can be infused with love knowing an ‘artisan’ handmade that piece. And that Artisan could be you! It doesn’t take much to learn the ancient art of Bamboo Product Design – and what better place on the planet to do it, than Ubud in Bali – with Balinese known to have “Artisan hand’s of the Gods!”.

STAY at the SWASTI eco-cottages This boutique resort is magical with it’s own organic vege’ garden & restaurant, health spa and natural environment. 5 minutes walk from the Monkey Forest of Ubud, this remarkably quiet resort is a perfect get away. The owner-builder will share his own bamboo and design techniques along side the other Ubud bamboo artisans. Book fast – limited space.

Orientation – 5.30pm the night before for full program.

NIGHT BEFORE: Arrive 5pm. 5.30pm at the Yoga Space for Orientation. Dinner at Swasti. DAY 1: 7-8.30am Breakfast. 9am to 4.30pm workshop with 1.5 hour lunch. Enjoy the resort, pool and space. Dinner 7PM, 2 minutes away at Laka Leke restaurant.

Bamboo Basics Workshop

Bamboo & Design Introduction Learn the types of bamboo, the way to prepare, the common design techniques and uses. Introduction to Bali and the bamboo artisan.

Knives – Chakra share’s the 3 ‘super tools’ made with recycled truck metal and how to use them for craft and design. Learn knife techniques. Design– Chakra introduces the Artisans and the unique expertise they each have. You get to hear about various ideas then we facilitate a session to encourage you to come up with your own contemporary designs. You are paired up with the best ‘artisan’ and you design this creation together. Lunch in the Swasti Organic Retaurant. 1.5 hrs to relax and swim and rest before we resume.

Chakra – permaculture expert, bamboo builder a artisan, Ubud eco-hero!

Design– Practical – working with your chosen Artisan all afternoon on basic techniques. Dinner at Laka Leke.com – with Balinese dancers & delicious food on the same street as Swasti

DAY 2 7am (drive up mountain) to 4pm workshop-tour. Packed Lunch in East Bali. After, shopping and dinner in Monkey Forest Road, Ubud.

Mountain Weavers Workshop East Bali Poverty Project is our Tour next destination. Leave early and drive up to the beautiful mountains where a volcano effected the bamboo weaving village severely but now find a thriving community where the children teach us about weaving. An amazing empowering experience for all… they get to see the value of their amazing skills and we get to learn from the fastest, most skilled weavers…

Create intricate pieces of art Intro Video to the great work of the East Bali Poverty Project – 20 yars on and the amazing change to the villages of this remote area. Part of your fee goes to this project and is also presented to the village chief for more development of th village. Learn cut, prepare skills for various types of weaving. ‘Man’ baskets and ‘Women’ baskets. Machete splitting and wetting. How to start the design. Bamboo Product Design Workshop Back to your creation and a Tour chance for you to design your own product. Your session Day 1 has prepared your ‘artisan ‘coach’ to support your ideas and creation. They will bring the bamboo required. Some people may wish for a morning tour of Bono and other nearby villages who are specialists of Bamboo craft – to get more ideas… This day is your day – totally tailored to your needs.
