Ac tivit y I nfor mation Course Overview Controversy surrounds every aspect of prostate cancer from screening to management. Should men be checking their PSAs? Should men get a prostate biopsy? Do they need treatment for prostate cancer and if so, what is the best treatment? This conference will review landmark studies in prostate cancer and explain the rationale behind often conflicting recommendations made by national medical organizations. State-of-the-art management and treatments for both localized and metastatic disease will be described and instructive patient cases will be discussed in small groups led by experts. The course combines didactic lectures with small working groups to allow ample opportunity for discussion, questions and comments. Target Audience This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of practicing primary care physicians and other healthcare professionals involved in the care of male patients considering prostate cancer screening or management options for prostate cancer. Educational Objectives The conference was designed to meet the following educational objectives based on the professional practice gaps identified during the planning of this program: • Explain the arguments for and against PSA-based screening • Identify candidates for active surveillance of prostate cancer • Discuss with patients the treatment options for high-risk prostate cancer • Recommend dietary interventions for men with prostate cancer • Use evidence-based national guidelines and prognostic indicators such as the AJCC staging system • Describe the latest advances in the treatment of metastatic prostate cancer Accreditation Statement Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Credit Designation Statement Cedars-Sinai Medical Center designates this live activity for a maximum of 4.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Nurses The California State Board of Registered Nursing accepts courses approved by the ACCME for category 1 credit as meeting the educational requirements for license renewal.
