We invite teams aged 35+ to compete in the 7th annual ISL Algarve Veterans Tournament. The event is held on professional standard pitches in the grounds of the 4* Alfamar Beach and Sport Resort, located on the beach of Praia de Falesia and close to the excellent nightlife of Albufeira and Vilamoura. TYPICAL ITINERARY FRIDAY 25TH SEPTEMBER Meet and Greet at Faro Airport. Transfer to Alfamar Hotel. Rest of day and evening at leisure. SATURDAY 26TH SEPTEMBER The 7th ISL Algarve Veterans Tournament kicks-off late morning. In between games there’s time to relax by the beach or pool. After the tournament there will be a trophy presentation and ‘happy hour’. SUNDAY 27TH SEPTEMBER Free time for relaxation, sunbathing, sightseeing. If you’re still feeling active play a round of golf on an international standard course, or play an additional friendly football match. MONDAY 28TH SEPTEMBER Return to Faro airport for your flight back to the UK, you can also extend your stay at a cost of just £35 per person per night.

FOOTBALL The 7th ISL Algarve Veterans is an 11-a-side competition and will be played on professional standard grass pitches within the grounds of the hotel. In between matches there’s time to cool off in the hotel pool. Games will be 2 x 15 minutes and teams will play a minimum of 4 games. Teams from England, Scotland, Holland, Belgium, Spain and Portugal have played in the tournament.
ACCOMMODATION The 4* Alfamar Beach & Sport Resort is in an excellent location, directly on the beach. The sport and leisure facilities include professional standard football pitches, outdoor and indoor pools, tennis courts and 5 golf courses within 12 miles. The tournament is played on good quality pitch(es) by the Alfamar hotel and beach, and is followed by the trophy presentation and a very sociable happy hour, or three with the other teams. The host club have a fantastic facility which now comprises 6 excellent full size pitches, training area, clubhouse, marquee, snack bar and first aid. Age dispensations may be applied for. A maximum of 16 teams per age group will be split into groups of 4 to 8. Each team plays group games on Saturday and continues with further matches, knockout games and finals on Sunday.

ARNHEM
Arnhem is situated in the province of Gelderland, close to the German border and around 5 hours from the channel port of Calais. The city is famous for its ‘Bridge Too Far’ and it’s role in ‘Operation Market Garden’ during WW2 when the British Airborne Division parachuted into Arnhem and held the bridge for several days against overwhelming odds. There are several monuments to the battle around the area including the museum at the British HQ at nearby Oosterbeek. It’s also possible to visit the Gelredome, home of Vitesse Arnhem, a state of the art stadium with retractable roof and removable pitch.

IN OUR OPINION The Bruges Cup is a great tournament for teams looking for less travelling time as it is under 2 hours from the ferry ports, held for the 2nd year in 2014 the tournament attracted over 50 teams from Belgium, Holland, Germany and England. The event is expected to be even more popular in 2015 so teams are advised to book early.

Bruges is one of Europe’s most visited and best preserved medieval cities. The historic city centre is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and Bruges is often referred to as the ‘Venice of the North’, due to the many beautiful canals and bridges. F SATURDAY 4TH APRIL The Netherlands Easter Trophy commences today. Tournament play is from 10am to 3pm approx. Optional excursion, for example Amsterdam. SUNDAY 5TH APRIL Further games today followed by the Netherlands Easter Trophy presentations in the clubhouse. Local excursion if required. MONDAY 6TH APRIL Depart Holland around midday, earlier if you prefer a stopover, such as the beautiful city of Bruges, or a hypermarket. Continue journey to your local area arriving in the evening.
The football tournament is played at excellent facilities in the neighbouring villages of Hengelo and Keyenborg, about 30 minutes to the north of Arnhem. A maximum of 12 teams per age group will be split into groups of 4, 5 or 6. Each team plays group games on the Saturday with further matches to determine winners and placement positions on the Sunday. Duration of games is 2 x 20 minutes. Age dispensations on request. Facilities at both grounds are excellent with a total of 6 grass pitches, there is a training area, clubhouse, snack bar and first aid at both facilities.

The villages of Hengelo and Keyenborg are located in the province of Gelderland, close to the German border and near to Arnhem, a city made famous by its ‘Bridge Too Far’. Today, Arnhem is a very modern city with excellent shopping and fantastic nightlife. The province of Gelderland is very attractive with historic cities and lovely villages. The hub of the tournament is the spacious clubhouse and outside terrace overlooking the pitches. Sightseeing possibilities include a visit to Amsterdam and the Ajax Stadium.
