Sapphire Mini-Server CPU-6 Installation Beginning with Base 160, a firmware installation is used to upgrade the Sapphire Mini-server GemPro board from CPU-5 to CPU-6, which provides Sapphire system enhancements. The upgrade is accomplished at Gemstall time and the process automatically converts the CPU-5 Ruby Card to a CPU-6 Ruby Card.

Important Information ■

For the initial GemPro Gemstall, DO NOT enable HPV-20. If it is necessary to upgrade HPV-20, see the note after step 14 in “To install the firmware upgrade to CPU-6.”

To upgrade to CPU-6, the firmware installation is required. A Sapphire CPU-6 GemPro board will not be produced.

The firmware upgrade to CPU-6 is not available for Ruby or Topaz terminals.

A Ruby Card converted to CPU-6 during the firmware installation process will not work in any Ruby or in any Sapphire that is still CPU-5.

To avoid confusion, it is recommended that every Ruby Card converted to CPU-6 be marked as such.

Ruby Cards are also referred to as Memory Cards and JEIDA Cards.

To make sure that a Ruby Card is not write protected, hold the card so that the front of the card is facing you. Look at the top edge of the card. If the tab is pushed to the left side of the slot, the card is write protected. Slide the tab to the right to remove write protection.
