In addition to English, and Spanish this Sacrament may also be in Italian. •WEDDINGS/ MATRIMONIO Pre–marital instruction is a requirement for all engaged couples. Consequently, arrangements for weddings should be made SIX MONTHS in advance.

THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JANUARY 22, 2017 TERCER DOMINGO EN TIEMPO ORDINARIO  22 DE ENERO DEL 2017 TERZA DOMENICA DEL TEMPO ORDINARIO  22 DI GENNAIO, 2017 “I beg you brothers in the name of Lord Jesus Christ, to agree on what you say. Let there be no factions; rather be united in mind and judgment… Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel – not with wordy ‘wisdom’ however, lest the cross of Christ be rendered void of its meaning. From the early days of the church questions and disputes arose, as the communities were formed and began to grow. Two thousand years later, people continue to line up, choose a banner or are pasted with a label. The words of St. Paul should cause us to pause and think. I hear many sermons, read many tracts, watch a variety of religious programs. All seem to have different perspectives. If they are credible, they should lead us to the cross of Jesus Christ. If they fail to do this, they are of little worth. Did we not hear the scripture words “there is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God who is Father?” May we learn to listen with a special ear, discern with a keen eye and discover the wisdom of Jesus Christ and the cross. Next time, don’t listen for just what you want to hear, but what you need to hear. “Hermanos, en el nombre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, yo los exhorto a que se pongan de acuerdo: que no haya divisiones entre ustedes y vivan en perfecta armonía, teniendo la misma manera de pensar y de sentir… Porque Cristo no me envió a bautizar, sino a anunciar la Buena Noticia, y esto sin recurrir a la elocuencia humana, para que la cruz de Cristo no pierda su eficacia.” Desde los primeros días de la iglesia, habían dudas y conflictos mientras las comunidades se formaban y crecían. Dos mil años después, la gente continúa formando bandos o siendo etiquetada. Las palabras de San Pablo deberían detenernos y hacernos pensar. Escucho muchos sermones, leo muchos panfletos, veo una variedad de programas religiosos. Todos parecen tener diferentes perspectivas. Si son creíbles, deberían llevarnos a la cruz de Jesucristo. Si no logran hacerlo, son de poco valor. ¿No hemos escuchado las palabras de las escrituras: ‘Hay un solo Señor, una sola fe, un solo bautismo. Hay un solo Dios y Padre.’ Ojalá que aprendamos a escuchar con un oído especial, discernir con un ojo experto y descubrir la sabiduría de Jesucristo y la cruz. La próxima vez, no escuche sólo lo que desea escuchar sino lo que necesita escuchar. “L’evangelista Matteo, riprendendo un’immagine del libro di Isaia, ci dice quello che è Gesù per noi: la luce. Nella nostra vita, vediamo spesso tenebre, resistenze, difficoltà, compiti non risolti che si accumulano davanti a noi come un’enorme montagna, problemi con i figli, o gli amici, con la solitudine, il lavoro non gradito... È tra tutte queste esperienze penose che ci raggiunge la buona parola: non vedete solo le tenebre, guardate anche la luce con cui Dio rischiara la vostra vita. Egli ha mandato Gesù per condividere con voi le vostre pene. Voi potete contare su di lui che è al vostro fianco, luce nell’oscurità. Non siamo noi che diamo alla nostra vita il suo senso ultimo. È lui. Non è né il nostro lavoro, né il nostro sapere, né il nostro successo. È lui, e la luce che ci distribuisce. Perché il valore della nostra vita non si basa su quello che facciamo, né sulla considerazione o l’influenza che acquistiamo. Essa prende tutto il suo valore perché Dio ci guarda, si volta verso di noi, senza condizioni, e qualsiasi sia il nostro merito. La sua luce penetra nelle nostre tenebre più profonde, anche là dove ci sentiamo radicalmente rimessi in causa, essa penetra nel nostro errore. Possiamo fidarci proprio quando sentiamo i limiti della nostra vita, quando questa ci pesa e il suo senso sembra sfuggirci. Il popolo immenso nelle tenebre ha visto una luce luminosa; una luce è apparsa a coloro che erano nel buio regno della morte!

The 2017 Mass book is available for your intentions from Monday to Friday 10am - 6pm & Saturday from 10am to 1pm We ask that you please fill out the forms located on the tables of the church entrances with the possible dates and times you wish to reserve a mass. This form will help us facilitate the process. The stipend for the mass is $15.00 Only exact change and checks are accepted.

BAPTISM INFORMATION The Sacrament of Baptism is Celebrated Once a month on Sunday One Sunday in Spanish after the 12:30pm Mass and One Sunday in English at 2PM. THE NEXT AVAILABLE DATES ARE: February 19th — Spanish Baptisms February 26th — English Baptisms Please come to the Parish rectory office as soon as possible before planning your child’s baptism.

BIBLE STUDY A bible study group is conducted each Monday evening at 7pm with Father Jeba in the PARISH CENTER. All are welcomed!
