Bruno Bytes: The 5th grade parent reps put together a class outing to Rockin' Jump after school last Wednesday that was a big hit with the kids. Two parent reps are still needed in Mrs. Heaslett's 4K class and one more 8th grade rep. It takes very little time and commitment. Call the office for more information.

Catholic Church Year of Mercy “Merciful Like the Father”

All Saints Day & All Souls Day November is a unique month for the Catholic Church. It begins with a beautiful Holy Day of Obligation in the Catholic Church on November 1st – All Saints Day. On this day, we honor the Saints, holy men and women who have gone before us leading lives of Christian example to the world. Many of these people were not perfect, and many of the saints had early lives that were filled with choices or actions that were nothing to be proud of. The saints were human being just like us, so they had emotions, fears, likes, joys, sorrows, and frustrations. What sets them apart is that these people answered the Lord’s call in different ways. Some of them through serving the poor, some through evangelizing and spreading the faith, others through dedicating their life to a religious order, and others through giving up their lives for their faith in God. Even though the way that each of these people answered the Lord’s call is different in some way, they all had one thing in common – they listened to and trusted in the Lord’s call in their heart. November 2nd continues with All Souls Day. This is a day that we honor and pray for our loved ones who have gone before us. Many churches will set up an area where people can bring in pictures of their loved ones that have died. Many churches will then remember these people throughout the month of November.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And let the perpetual light shine upon them. And may the souls of all the faithfully departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen. Answering Our Call to Serve Others As Catholics, we have a call to help out others and those who are in need. One of the main themes of Catholic Social Teaching is “Life and Dignity of the Human Person” and the Catholic Church proclaims that human life is sacred and that the dignity of the human person is the foundation of a moral vision for society. We as the school community of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Catholic School answer that call throughout the year. Every year in the month of October, the sixth grade classes host the Personal Care Drive for Sun Prairie’s Sunshine Place. This year, we are trying to “Cram the Cart” by the marble wall in the school lobby with personal care items. This is a chance to help out those who are less fortunate than we are and respond to our call of Catholic Social Teaching. Currently, the Sunshine Place is in need of the following items: • Shampoo • Conditioner • Deodorant • Bars of Soap • Shaving Cream • Toothpaste • Dental Floss • Toothbrushes • Toilet Paper • Diapers (Newborn to Size 4) • Baby Wipes • Laundry Detergent • Fabric Softener/Dryer Sheets • Dish Soap Items can be collected in the cart by the marble wall until November 11th

Catholicism: Did You Know? Holy Days of Obligation The Roman Catholic Church has specific days throughout each year that we, as Catholics, are expected to attend Mass, in addition to our weekly Sunday obligation. These days all have special events in our faith to celebrate in the most respectful way we can – through partaking in the Mass and the sacrifice of the Holy Eucharist. The Holy Days of Obligation in the United States are as follows: • January 1 - the solemnity of Mary, Mother of God • Thursday of the Sixth Week of Easter - the solemnity of the Ascension • August 15 - the solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Mother • November 1 - the solemnity of All Saints • December 8 - the solemnity of the Immaculate Conception • December 25 - the solemnity of the Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ
