PRESIDENT’S MESSagE am certain that we will find that one special person who will minister to our flock. In the meantime, the Diocese will provide a priest to us for Sunday services.

August flew by in a flash! Between cooking for Glendi, preparing for the departure/retirement of Fr. Andrew and figuring out how to deal with Demoulas issues in relation to Glendi ordering there was hardly time to catch a breath. That is all over now and we are completing our final preparations for Glendi.

Glendi is coming!!! Have you signed up to help yet? It’s not too late. Please call the church office to volunteer if you haven’t done so already. September will find us making peta and pastitsio. The cooking schedule is on the calendar. If you are available please come and help. Many hands lighten the work load!

I would like to thank everyone who attended the Farewell/Retirement Dinner for Fr. Andrew. It was wonderful to see people in good spirits and enjoying each other’s company without having to do a bit of work. Love filled the room! It was a bittersweet evening because we knew that on Sunday Fr. Andrew would celebrate his final Divine Liturgy as pastor of our parish but he knew and helped us to realize that the time had come for him to retire from active parish life. On that Friday evening we had the opportunity to wish him well on the next chapter of his life. Now it is time for us to move on to the next chapter in our beloved Cathedral’s life. That Friday evening where we all joined together and broke bread together I came to the renewed realization that together we can do anything. Let’s just do it!

Our Youth Programs will soon be in full swing. Church Vacation Camp and Summer Sunday School were both very successful. Many thanks to all who were involved with both programs. They provided an opportunity for our children to learn and grow throughout the summer. Now it is time to return to our fall routines and get back on schedule. Let’s enjoy the final days of summer—autumn doesn’t begin until September 21. I hope to see all of you at Glendi!! Opa! Sincerely,

We have put our request in to Metropolitan Methodios for a pastor. He has assured us that he will do his best to help us find a pastor who will meet the many needs of our parish. We need to be aware that there are other large parishes in the Diocese that are also searching for a pastor. The process will not be quick but we will be thorough in our search. I

uRgENT NEED FOR FOOD

The demand for food assistance is at an all time high and food bank supplies are at a record low. Help is needed to fill their shelves and ensure that some of the poorest residents of our community receive food. The greatest needs are: peanut butter, jelly, tuna fish, canned vegetables, canned fruit, cereal, pasta, and sauce. Please drop your items off at the Community Center and we will deliver them to the soup kitchen. New Horizons and the recipients of the food are very grateful for your generous donations. S

The 2014-15 Cub Scout year will be kicking off on Wednesday, September 10th with our Webelos helping to setup for Glendi, and our younger scouts visiting the Manchester Fire Station. The official kick-off will start with our Registration Night/Ice Cream Social on Wednesday, September 24th! We are looking at a fantastic year for Scouting...this will be our first year where we have our older Cub Scouts crossing into the new Boy Scout Troop 92, which will be starting in March! In September, we have our "Soaring with the Hawks" hike at Pack Mondadnock for the Raptor Release and to watch the Hawk Migration. In October, we have Family Camping, and a special "Haunted Fort" night at Camp Carpenter (right here in Manchester!). There will also be our yearly activities: Pinewood Derby, Pancake Breakfast, and much, much MORE! All boys between the ages of 6 and 10 (First through Fifth Grade) are welcome to join us!

Does your child have any allergies or medical conditions that the staff should be aware of? _______________________________________________

SCOuTINg NEwS

I am very excited to announce this new section on Scouting news. By the end of this Scouting Year (May), St. George will have a full complement of Scouting activities for our Community! We have an established Cub Scout Pack, and Daisy, Brownie, and Junior Girl Scout Troops. Starting this year, we have started a Venture Crew, and in March of 2015, we will have enough boys to start Boy Scout Troop 92! I am so very excited for these programs, as they offer much in terms of skill, character and communication for our Youth!

Dear Fellow Parishioners Mark your calendars-the first day of Sunday School is September 21! Children will assemble in church at 10 AM and sit in the pews by class. Children who are three years old and toilet trained are eligible to participate in our Nursery School program. Sunday School runs through grade 10. I encourage all children of our parish to actively participate in Sunday School. You will be receiving registration forms and a calendar in a separate mailing or via email. Also, registration forms are available in the church office. Please complete a separate form for each child.

EaSTER FLOwER FuND CORRECTION

Jeannie Lucas, in memory of my mom, Mary Lucas

If you are interested in volunteering in Sunday School, please let me know. We could always use more substitute teachers and co-teachers. If you have any questions or concerns regarding Sunday School, please see me so we can discuss them.

gOya NEwS BY NICK SPANOS

Many of you are getting back into a routine with school, homework, dance lessons, music lessons and sports. I want to remind all of the families to make Sunday School part of their normal routine. As a mother of three young children, I know how hard it is to balance all the activities in our own lives and our childrenʼs lives. Not everyone will make it to church or Sunday School every Sunday. I understand this, however, we all need to make a strong commitment to come to church as much as we can. We need to set a good example for our children. Sunday School is an opportunity for our children to learn about Jesus Christ and the Orthodox Church. I look forward to seeing many familiar faces and a lot of new faces in church!

Kudos to those of our GOYANs and friends who have just graduated High School and are on campus getting settled into academic life...Andreas Harb, Christina Spanos and Nick Urban! Congratulations to George Tsirimokos who earned the "Eastern Orthodox Alpha-Omega Religious Award for Boy Scouts". He worked closely with Fr. Andrew who recently presented the award to George with his family by his side. Thank you to all who supported our Car Wash this year we raised over $300 in donations! We really appreciate your help and it was fun washing your cars!

Sincerely Athena Moutsioulis Bevan
