Maximum speed The current maximum speed on the different sections is shown in the table below: Section Maximum speed Køge-Åmarken 120 Km/h Åmarken-København H 100 Km/h København H-Skelbæk 90 Km/h Skelbæk-Åmarken 100 Km/h Åmarken-Køge 120 Km/h Høje Taastrup-Valby 120 Km/h Valby-København H 90 Km/h København H-Valby 90 Km/h Valby-Høje Taastrup 120 Km/h Frederikssund-Vanløse 120 Km/h Vanløse-Valby 90 Km/h Valby-Vanløse 90 Km/h Vanløse-Frederikssund 120 Km/h København H-Østerport 80 Km/h Østerport-Hellerup 90 Km/h Hellerup-Lyngby 120 Km/h Lyngby-Holte 90 Km/h Holte-Hillerød 100 Km/h Hillerød-Holte 100 Km/h Holte-Lyngby 90 Km/h Lyngby-Hellerup 120 Km/h Hellerup-Østerport 90 Km/h Østerport-København H 80 Km/h Vigerslev-Hellerup 80 Km/h Hellerup-Vigerslev 80 Km/h Hellerup-Klampenborg 100 Km/h Klampenborg-Hellerup 100 Km/h Svanemøllen-Buddinge 90 Km/h Buddinge-Farum 100 Km/h Farum-Buddinge 100 Km/h Buddinge-Svanemøllen 90 Km/h The maximum speed between Lyngby-Holte (90) and Holte-Hillerød (100) is caused by the present signaling system, and is assumed to be raised to 120 Km/h. Current object quantities The table below shows the quantities of objects on the S-bane: Object Interlocking (both station and line) Train detection (DC isolated joints and AC RF jointless) Point machines Signals (excluding shunting signals)

Comments to the table In Denmark we have stations with passenger exchange and technical stations. A passenger exchange station does not necessarily have an interlocking and vice versa. There are two types of technical stations, one with points and one without points. Beside the stations with passenger exchange shown on the map, there is technical stations on these locations: With points: Ølsemagle Bavnehøj Skelbæk Without points: Oppe-Sundby Høvelte Hammerum Currently DSB S-tog is planning to run trains throughout the night from Friday to Sunday as a trial. Crossovers between S-bane and fjernbane/private lines On the map the green dots represent places where there is a crossover between the Sbane and the private lines. The blue dots are places with crossovers to the Fjernbane. There is no catenary system in these crossovers and they are used by yellow fleet and freight trains. There are no S-Bane trains using these crossovers. The yellow fleet is assumed to be fitted with the new on-board system and freight trains used for the S-bane might be fitted too. At some locations on the S-bane some lines cross each other using fly-over junctions (no flat junctions). The locations are:

SA and SE refers to the trains typres explained later in this note.

Ny Ellebjerg (Vigerslev) Danshøj Flintholm Ryparken At Hillerød station the track is shared with the private line (Lokalbanen A/S), and it is assumed that the private line trains will be dual-fitted with the private line system and the new CBTC system. Technology on the S-bane Beside the line used for early deployment, the S-bane interlocking systems are relay based systems, with an integrated loop-based train control system called HKT. The line used for early deployment line has a simplified version of this HKT train control system or none, and the interlocking systems are of older different types. The types installed on the stations can be seen in the document “SP-13-008011Interlocking type on S-bane stations.docx”. Current time table Most of the lines on the S-bane have 10 minutes headway, but at the central section from Dybbølsbro to Svanemøllen trains are running with a 2 minutes headway. The document “SP-13-007732-TKS 08 10 12 2007.pdf” is the present timetable for the S-bane for drivers, where it is also possible to see the dwell time on stations (Ophold sek) and the preferred speed for economical driving (Økonomi km/t). Train types There are two different train types on the S-bane, called SA and SE. An SE trainset is approximately half the length of a SA trainset. The S-bane is operated using different configurations of trains for passenger service: SA, SA+SA, SA+SE, SE, SE+SE, SE+SE+SE when the train is in passenger operation. When not in passenger operation it is also possible to have SA+SA+SA.

Depots At the following "End" stations depot tracks are used for stabling, cleaning and small repairs. All tracks are interlocked: Hillerød Klampenborg Farum Frederikssund Ballerup Køge Further more there are 3 larger depots on the S-bane: one is located in Høje Taastrup and one in Hundige and the last one is at the main station København H.

The depots at København is owned by Banedanmark, and DSB owns the other two depots. At the Hundige depot, the moving of points is done by using cab accessible buttons, at Høje Taastrup the points are centrally controlled by the operator (DSB S-tog), and at the main station the depot is divided in 2 where one part is centrally controlled by BDK and at the other the moving of points is done by using cab accessible buttons. It is not decided at present to what extent the large depots are to be equipped with the new signalling system. Gradient On the S-bane the gradients are rather small, and not taken into consideration during planning of the time table.
