2 ROTALIGN Ultra firmware upgrade

Updating ROTALIGN® Ultra to version 2.0x Current ROTALIGN Ultra firmware updates are carried out with the use of the especially approved PRÜFTECHNIK 1 GB USB memory stick (aka jumpdrive). The memory stick is preloaded with the current firmware. Memory sticks are also available in capacities of 128 MB and 256 MB.

 Note

The necessary updates are currently delivered in three different ways:  via the PRÜFTECHNIK memory stick  via the PRÜFTECHNIK website  via the Resource CD 1. Transferring update files to the memory stick If you are acquiring the update via the website or the CD, you will require to transfer it to the approved memory stick before commencing the upgrading. 2.i Downloading the update from the PRÜFTECHNIK website a) Go to: .

Download the upgrade to a folder on your PC. It is a large file, this may take several minutes. DO NOT download directly to your approved memory stick! If you had previously carried out an update using the memory stick, ensure that you DELETE all old folders.

b) Connect the approved PRÜFTECHNIK memory stick with not less than Firmware_2.0x.exe” file in your PC. You will be prompted to extract the file to a memory stick (See the next screen).

c) Select the location of your memory stick with ‘Browse’. Then click ‘Install’. The files extraction process begins.

d) If the extraction has been successful, the update is now on the memory stick, and you may proceed to section 3 - 'Carrying out the firmware update.

2.ii Copying the update from the Resources CD a) After starting the CD, select 'ROTALIGN Ultra' from the 'Device Selection' dropdown menu. From the screen that appears, click the 'Install' button under 'ROTALIGN Ultra firmware'. The following screen appears.

The following approved PRÜFTECHNIK memory sticks may also be used:

b) Connect the approved PRÜFTECHNIK memory stick ALI 4.451-1G with not less than 100 MB of free space, to your PC. Ensure the previous version of the upgrade firmware has been deleted.

a) Connect your ROTALIGN® Ultra to the mains adapter/charger, or ensure that the rechargeable battery is fully charged. b) Switch ROTALIGN® Ultra on and wait for Program Manager screen to appear.

c) Attach the 'short' USB/peripheral devices cable ALI 4.503 to your ROTALIGN Ultra. d) Insert the approved PRÜFTECHNIK memory stick ALI 4.451-1G into the

e) On inserting the memory stick, ROTALIGN Ultra beeps and all 4 alignment condition LEDs blink followed by the screen below

Should the firmware on the memory stick be of the same version as that present on the instrument, the instrument beeps and the 4 LEDs will blink but no update action will take place.

You are about to start the upgrade process therefore pay special attention to the hints appearing on the display. Do not remove the memory stick during the entire upgrade process. This may take up to 15 minutes.

To start the upgrade process press and hold down e until the device resets. DO NOT be irritated by the hint as to whether you want to turn off the instrument or not. f) The "Flashing firmware" screen as shown next appears with the hint not to turn off the device.

The following messages

appear on the numbered locations on the screen opposite: 1 "Flashing firmware... Do not turn the device off" 2 "flashing firmware 1

g) When the final flashing phase is completed, the hint "Verifying the last firmware upgrade flashing" appears on the display with the 4 LEDs blinking continuously.

h) After the automatic update is completed, the screen below appears.

i) Press and hold down e until the device resets. This is indicated with a beep and the blinking of the 4 LEDs. j) After reset, the "Flashing firmware"screen appears again followed by the loading of the program manager. The update is now completed and the 'short' USB cable may be disconnected from ROTALIGN Ultra. k) The new version may be confirmed using the menu item 'Configuration' / 'Device information'.
