The etiology is unknown - Rosacea is believed to be a vascular disorder • Inflammatory cells in upper dermis • Not related to pilosebaceous unit • The role of Demodex folliculorum or Helicobacter pylori is up for debate

Rosacea: Clinical Features Location: • Affects central face and nose • “Butterfly” distribution • Nasolabial area Lesions: • Pustules and papules • Telangiectasia Appearance: • Initial appearance is transient blushing • Persistent red face • Swelling of tissue • Enlargement of sebaceous glands • Closely resembles acne vulgaris • Develops episodically • Dry skin in 50% of patients
