R

odriguez PREP Academy opened in August of 2008 and serves grades four through eight. Enrollment for the elementary pre-PREP Academy students (fourth, fifth, and sixth graders) will be determined by the school’s boundaries. Similar to Richardson PREP HI Middle School, all incoming and future seventh- and eighth-grade students at Rodriguez PREP Academy will need to meet the placement criteria and complete the enclosed program application in order to be considered for attendance. The school focuses on strategically combining the dimensions of a Professional Learning Community with the idea that each child has his or her own form of intelligence (Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences). The strengths and weaknesses within these intelligences contribute to his or her overall cognitive profile, making each student a unique learner with different needs that cannot always be met by a uniform curriculum. The utilization of these components, combined with state-of-the-art technology and a strong curricular program, will create an environment of strong academic performance, high self-esteem, and a feeling of pride for the entire community.

T

he Rodriguez PREP Academy program stresses a close, cooperative relationship between student, parent, and school personnel. This highly structured program helps students develop good work habits that will continue to assist the student throughout his or her education. Applications received/postmarked by the deadline will be screened using the placement criteria found in this brochure. Applications will the be divided into two groups (one for seventh grade and one for eighth grade). Each group of students’ cards will be placed into a drum. All cards will be drawn out and numbered in the order drawn. Students will be enrolled in the order of the drawing number received. Approximately 400 students will be enrolled at Rodriguez PREP Academy. If enrollment room is exhausted, the remainder of the qualifying students will be put on a waiting list. These students will be offered placement at Rodriguez PREP Academy as vacancies occur until the beginning of the third trimester (mid-March). After the beginning of the third quarter, if a vacancy occurs and the student continues to meet the criteria, the parent will be notified of the vacancy. The student will then receive placement for the following school year. At the end of the school year, all students on the waiting list who were not placed will have to resubmit an application. The three main components of the program are academic instruction, tutorial support, and motivational activities.
