RULES FOR PEDAL CYCLiSTS 8o. Use, where these exist, the pedal cycle passageway 81. Cycle one behind the other. Do not swerve sharply on the roads. 82. Hold the handlebar firmly with both hands. 83. Do not carry anything which prevents you from cycling safely. Do not carry very heavy, too long or too wide objects on your bicycle. 84. Carrying a passenger on a pedal cycle is dangerous. 85. When traffic is stopped do not take the risk of slipping through a narrow space between vehicles. Keep your position in the queue. 86. Do not overtake on the left. 87. Do not hold on to another vehicle or cyclist. 88. Keep a distance behind other moving vehicles. 89. Do not ride a bicycle too big for you. 90. Take special care in bad weather and slippery roads. What the law demands The main points of the law relating to road safety are the following: To pedestrians: When walking or standing on the road use the edge of the road so as not to prevent or interrupt or lock the free movement of other pedestrians or vehicles. (a) is equipped with a bell in good operating order. (b) has brakes on both wheels in good working order. (c) During darkness or in the interval between half hour after sunset and half hour before sunrise, you display adequate white light in the front and red reflector or red light in the rear mudwing of your bicycle. The tail of your rear mudwing should also be painted white. 2. You must (a) Keep to the left hand side of the road. (b) When pushing your bicycle keep to the left hand side of the road and keep your bicycle as near you as possible so as not to cause obstruction to others. (c) Reduce your speed when being overtaken. (d) Comply with traffic signs as well as signals and directions given by policemen regulating traffic. Give the right signals yourself. (e) Follow with discipline all directions given by policemen in uniform. (f) Reduce your speed to safety limits when approaching corners or road junctions. (g) Hold the handlebars with both hands except when you are giving a signal. (h) When entering a major road stop or reduce your speed and allow space for other vehicles using the road. (i) Give your real name and address and the name and address of the owner of the bicycle if asked by a policemen in uniform, or in the event of an accident.

3. You MUST NOT (a) Ride side by side with another vehicle or bicycle. (b) Sit in any other place than the saddle of the bicycle. (c) Pull another bicycle whilst riding. (d) Ride or push your bicycle on the pavement. (e) Push your bicycle side by side with another person also pushing his bicycle or riding it or push your vehicle in such a way as to prevent, interrupt or cause inconvenience to traffic. f) Hold onto another vehicle in motion, for any reason whatever. (g) Convey passengers contrary to the provision of the law. (h) Convey loads contrary to the provision of the law. (j) Drive dangerously or with speed so as to endanger human life. (k) Drive carelessly and without respect to other road users.

HUNGARY / Give way (9. picture). The traffic sign indicates that at the crossroad have to give way in the crossing (feeder) road- respectively, if there is an additional board with the sketch of the groundplan of the crossroad- for the vehicle arriving on the road indicated with the thick line (10. picture). If there is a sign referring to bicycle-traffic on the additional board (10/a. picture), in this case must give way to the cyclist coming through the part of the road which is marked with the road sign for bicycle-traffic.

The traffic sign indicates, that the two-wheeled bicycles can just go on the cycle path, car with outboard motor for disabled people, powered wheelchair and twowheeled motor-assisted bicycle in open country can use the cycle path, if it is not against the traffic sing. Two-wheeled motor assisted bicycle, powered wheelchair can go 20km/h at most on the cycle path. On the cycle path transport for other vehicle is prohibited.

Otherwise a person ought not to be carried on the bicycle. 26/g. ábra i/1. Pedestrian and cycling zone (26/j. picture). The traffic sign indicates the start of such an area, which roads are served for traffic of the pedestrians and the cyclists, the traffic of other vehicles in that zone is forbidden. The cyclists have to go on that part of the road which is separated with the roadsigns or marked with different road surface, at the speed of 20 km/h at most. On other parts of the road the cyclists can go at the speed of 10 km/h at most, without endangering the pedestrians. On the road designated for cyclists pedestrians can not go. If there is an additional board with a period under the traffic board -besides the period indicated – the vehicles of the people living there and the vehicles of those people who have the permission of the public road operator can go in the zone at the speed of 10 km/h at most. SPAIN Horizontal signals consist of cycle-specific traffic signals painted onto the surfaces of the cycle lanes while the vertical signals are indicative signals. In all cases the signals obey Spanish state law as established in The Traffic, Motor Vehicle Circulation and Highway Traffic Law passed by March 2nd’s Royal Decree RDL 339/1.990, and in the General Traffic Law for the Extension and Development of the Law’s Articulated Text, passed by Royal Decree RD 1428/2.003, in which highly important cyclist-safety related issues are introduced.
