The World Barley, Malt & Beer Conference was started by Mr. Roger Martin, with the RMI Conferences Ltd. company, in 2001. In 2011, RMI Analytics acquired the business, being committed to bring the conference to a new level of quality and performance.

2013 CONFERENCE THEME Three major trends are impacting on the barley, malt and beer supply chain. These will form the basis for our various discussions at the 7th World Barley, Malt & Beer Conference in Madrid, March 2013. THE WORLD’S DEMAND FOR FOOD AND ENERGY IS CONTINUOUSLY INCREASING.

We will consider whether agricultural engineering, technical, biological and biochemical developments and the potential changes in farming structure will be able to offset the limited natural resources available. Related to this, discussions will focus on the potential long-term impacts and solutions for the brewing industry and its upstream supply chain.

THE UNDENIABLE CHANGES TO OUR CLIMATE LEAD TO EXTREME WEATHER PATTERNS, VOLATILE BARLEY SUPPLY AND PRICE RISKS.

The current market situation illustrates these volatilities. You will have the chance to hear the latest market developments from industry and trade experts. A trade finance expert will present modern risk management strategies to cope with the new volatility challenge. Furthermore, we will explore specific sustainable development initiatives and targets along the grain and grain-based product supply chain, which addresses an increasing consumer demand for sustainable products. These also aim to slow down the climate change process and to protect the future of our planet.

INTEGRATED SUPPLY CHAINS AND BUSINESS CONSOLIDATION CONTRASTING WITH NICHE MARKET GROWTH.

Examples of the rapid horizontal consolidation of businesses in general and in particular in the brewing, malting, grain trading and handling industries have been seen in the recent past. Many companies already integrate vertically several steps of the supply chain. Contrasting with this is the interesting phenomena of successful and fast-growing local and often specialized craft brewers, maltsters and even trading houses. By examining both of these aspects we will improve delegates’ understanding of this trend.

The 7th World Barley, Malt & Beer Conference’s broad agenda and the presentations to be given by industry experts have been designed to provide delegates with a wealth of information and thought-provoking ideas. Each lecture is certain to stimulate further discussion during the conference and hopefully beyond Madrid 2013.
