REGISTRATION INFORMATION

• Saturday, March 28th (approx. 8:30am-noon) more info on specific times next slide

• Students will select BOTH core classes and electives on March 28th. For those who cannot possibly attend, there will be a make-up session on Tues, March 3/31 From 3:30-5:30pm in Building 4 .

• Please do not arrive earlier than 10 min before appt time.

• Phoenix & Fenders will be occurring at the same time so please park in front of or behind the school.

Bell Schedule • Grades 9-12 operates on a “block” schedule. • Students will have 8 total blocks of instruction. – 4 blocks 1st semester – 4 blocks 2nd semester

• One block is 90 minutes. • Example schedules will be shown in a few slides.

*Most 9th graders will have Algebra both semesters.*

• After registration is complete, course requests are entered into the computer. • The computer will place students into courses based on the block a class is taught, which classes have room, etc. • Every course is not taught both semesters, and every course is not taught every block. • Students do not select which semester they have the courses.

General Scheduling Info

On track to graduate with the Class of 2019??? • If a student fails a core academic course (such as 9th Lit, Physics, Algebra or Gov’t) or a required course (such as H/PE), the student must

re-take the course and earn a passing score in it in order to meet graduation requirements.

Academic Electives • Foreign Language – Spanish 1 & Spanish 2 are required if a student plans to attend a 4-year college. – Many larger universities recommend 3 units of the same foreign language

• Writer’s Workshop – creative writing class

PATHWAY REQUIREMENT

• In addition to passing specific academic classes, all students must pass 3 courses in the SAME career pathway cluster before graduating. • General pathway areas: Fine Arts, Spanish, Yearbook, CTAE Note: P.E. courses are NOT considered pathway courses .

Elective Requests • Students will rank their top 6 elective requests from 1 (top choice) to 6 (last choice). • Students will be placed into electives with open seats and that fit into the blocks available after core classes are scheduled. (Note: We strive to get students into a top choice.) • It is important that students are satisfied if placed into ANY of the 6 “ranked” elective choices.

Extracurricular Activities • Research suggests that participation in extracurricular activities may increase students' sense of engagement or attachment to their school, and thereby decrease the likelihood of school failure and dropping out. * • College and scholarship applications ask how students participated in their school & community.
