If you need any assistance in using the library please contact the Enquiry Desk by:  visiting the Help Desk on the ground floor of the library,  visiting our Help Pages at http://libanswers.bcu.ac.uk/ where you can chat with us online or use an enquiry form to contact us,  phoning 0121 331 5282 If you would like an in-depth library tutorial please contact : James Dean ([email protected], 0121 331 7480). You will find lots of useful information on resources and how to use them on the Built Environments Libguide: http://libguides.bcu.ac.uk/builtenvironments or the Information Literacy for Built Environments pages available on Moodle at http://moodle.bcu.ac.uk/course/view.php?id=2734

Summon Summon is a search engine that provides fast, simple access to relevant, scholarly material, the type of information academics are expecting to see in your coursework/assignments.  It searches across our Library Catalogue, E-journals and E-books and so is an excellent way to start your search for information.  Currently Summon contains over 50 million items, with more being added daily.  The Summon search box is available on the Library tile on the main iCity page (https://icity.bcu.ac.uk/) or via the Library & Learning Resources iCity page.

Books The library purchases textbooks in both printed and electronic formats based on the recommendations of teaching staff. E-Books  A growing number of key textbooks are available online on the MyiLibrary database.  The best route into the database is via the Electronic Resources link on the Library Red Tile on iCity (https://icity.bcu.ac.uk/). By accessing via iCity you should not need to log in again. 1

There are links on the library catalogue (http://capitadiscovery.co.uk/bcu/) to the individual e-books that are available. If you follow a link to an e-book via the catalogue you may see a screen asking you to enter an Athens Username and Password. Please do not use these log in boxes but instead click on the Alternative Login option. You should then see a screen with a Birmingham City University* link. Click on that and then on the next page click on the Go to the Birmingham City University login page. MyiLibrary will then open. *If the link to Birmingham City University is not shown, you can find it by using the Organisation search box.

You can also use the Summon search engine (see page 1) to search for e-books.
