Request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (“the Act”) Further to your recent request for information held by King’s College London, I am writing to confirm that the requested information is held by the university. Some of the information is being withheld in accordance with section 40 of the Act – Personal Information. Your request We received your information request on 4 August 2016 and have treated it as a request for information made under section 1(1) of the Act. You requested the following information: “All details (amount, name of person/organisation paying the money, reason) of payments of money to the university of £5,000 or more for the last financial year of 2015/16. Please include all payments including investments, donations, goodwill etc.” You later clarified your request as follows: “Please only provide payments of £10,000 or more and preclude all student tuition fee contributions and government funding. The payments are anticipated to be primarily but not exclusively constituted of gifts, fundraising, investments and donations etc.” Our response Please see that attached document setting out our response to your request. The names of some individual donors and of some of the donation amounts are considered to be exempt from disclosure in accordance with section 40(2) of the Act – Personal Information of Third Parties. The university considers that donations made in a private capacity constitute personal information and to disclose the information would constitute a breach of

one of the principles of the Data Protection Act 1998. The personal information has been removed where information in relation to donation is not publically available. Where there is public information relating to the fact of a donation by a particular individual, but not the value of the donation, the figure has been marked as withheld. Your right to complain If you are unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your information request or feel that it has not been properly handled you have the right to complain or request a review of our decision by contacting the Head of Information Management and Compliance within 60 days of the date of this letter.
