Product description Features

In combination with Eppendorf Combitips plus, the Multipette plus/the Repeater plus forms a dispensing system for repeat dispensing operations. A supply of liquid is aspirated into the Combitip plus and then dispensed step by step. The built-in electronics automatically recognize • the Combitip plus inserted and • the position of the volume selection dial, and the current dispensing volume appears in the display. Nine Combitips plus with a variety of filling volumes are available for single use (see Select a Combitip plus on page 7). The Combitips plus 25 mL and 50 mL can only be used in combination with an adapter. The adapter is a wear part. For each Combitip plus, you can use the volume selection dial to set 20 different volumes. The smallest volume can be dispensed up to a max. of 100 times and the largest volume a max. of 5 times.

Please read this operating manual, especially the safety instructions, carefully before using the Multipette plus/the Repeater plus for the first time. Danger! Risk of explosion and fire from overheated batteries.  Do not heat the battery over 100 °C and do not throw it on a fire. Warning! Risk to health from chemicals.  Never point the opening of the Combitip plus at yourself or anyone else.  Only press the dispensing lever or the filling lever when this is possible without any risk. Warning! Poor safety due to incorrect accessories. The use of accessories and spare parts other than those recommended by Eppendorf may impair the safety, function and precision of the device. Eppendorf accepts no warranty or liability for damage caused by third-party parts or incorrect use.  Use only original accessories recommended by Eppendorf. Warning! Damage to device from opening the housing. 1. Do not remove the housing of the Multipette plus/of the Repeater plus. 2. Do not allow the housing to be opened by anyone except service staff authorized by Eppendorf. Caution! Incorrect dispensing results from multiple use. The Combitips plus are for single use. Prolonged use can have a negative impact on dispensing tasks.  Use Combitips plus only once.  Do not autoclave the Combitips plus. Caution! Damage to device from incorrect operation.  The Multipette plus/Repeater plus may only be operated by appropriately qualified and trained laboratory staff. Caution! Material damage from incorrect use.  Do not press the ejection keys when inserting the Combitips plus. Caution! Damage to the sensor.  When using the 25 mL and 50 mL Combitips plus, ensure that the adapter is in perfect condition. The adapter is a wear part.  Do not use the adapter plus if it is damaged or visibly worn.  Always connect the adapter and the Combitip plus outside the Multipette plus/the Repeater plus.  Do not rotate the Combitip plus once inserted.  Always hold the Multipette plus/the Repeater plus by the housing.

Caution! Damage to device from penetration of liquid.  Do not allow any liquids to penetrate the inside of the housing.  If liquid has penetrated the inside of the housing, have the inner parts of the Multipette plus/of the Repeater plus decontaminated only by service partners of Eppendorf AG. Contact your local sales office before making a return.  Do not open the housing of the Multipette plus/of the Repeater plus. Caution! Material damage from incorrect use. 1. Only use the product for its intended purpose as described in the operating manual. 2. Ensure adequate material resistance when using chemical substances. 3. Insert Combitip plus and select volume

1. If you are using 25 mL/50 mL Combitips, connect the adapter to the Combitip outside the Multipette plus/the Repeater plus. 1

 Push the Multipette plus/the Repeater plus onto the Combitip. Do

not press the ejection keys in the process. The Combitip engages automatically. The digital display indicates the volume which would be dispensed using the inserted Combitip plus and with the current position of the volume selection dial.

3.2.1

Select volume

 Turn the volume selection dial until it engages in the desired

position. The volume selection dial has 20 positions. The positions are marked with numbers 1 to 10. Positions in between and position 0.5 are marked with a dot.

3.2.2

When setting small volumes (position 5 and smaller), the travel of the dispensing lever is automatically reduced. The dispensing lever changes position when the volume selection dial is turned. The volume selection dial can be turned to a maximum of position 10. Do not turn the volume selection dial beyond 10 or 0.5. Turn the volume selection dial back again. Fill Combitip plus and reverse stroke

1. Immerse the tip of the Combitip in the liquid. 2. Slowly and steadily push the filling lever up to the stop. The display flashes, the Multipette plus/the Repeater plus is not yet operational. Discard the first dispensing step (reverse stroke) 1. Wipe the tip of the Combitip with fiber-free material. 2. Place the tip of the Combitip against the wall of the tube. 3. Press the dispensing lever once and discard the liquid (reverse stroke). This step is independent of volume setting and brings the system into its default position. The display no longer flashes and indicates dispensing volume. The Multipette plus/the Repeater plus is operational, the full number of dispensing steps is available. Notes • If you do not fill the Combitip completely, the display does not flash. The first volume must be discarded. • You can change the volume between dispensing steps by actuating the volume selection dial. • If you move the filling lever too fast, you may create an excessive vacuum. Air bubbles will accumulate in the liquid which may lead to dispensing inaccuracies. With the Combitips 10, 25 and 50 mL in particular, aspiration of a relatively large air bubble can lead to drips forming after each dispensing step for volume selection dial settings greater than 5. • A small air bubble located in the top space of the cylinder has no effect on dispensing. • The Combilong/Combitube is an aspiration aid for the Multipette plus/the Repeater plus. The Combilong/Combitube allows liquid to be aspirated directly out of bottles (see page 73).

3.3

Dispense

1. Place the tip of the Combitip against the wall of the tube. 2. Push the dispensing lever up to the stop.

Hint!

If the remaining liquid is not enough for complete dispensing of the set volume for the last dispensing step, the residual stroke lock automatically prevents an insufficient amount from being dispensed.

After the Combitip has been refilled, discard the first dispensing step.

Release Combitip plus

1. Hold the Combitip in a tube and push the filling lever right to the bottom. The residual liquid is emptied. 2. Hold the Multipette plus/the Repeater over a waste container. 3. Press both ejection keys at the same time. The Combitip (in the case of 25 mL and 50 mL including adapter) is released from the Multipette plus/the Repeater plus. The display goes out. 4. On the Combitip 25 mL and 50 mL: unscrew the reusable adapter from the Combitips. The adapter is a wear part. If significant wear is apparent, do not reuse the adapter. 9

Only trained staff already familiar with the operating manual and the Multipette plus/the Repeater plus may work to these short instructions. Follow the safety instructions.

Select Combitip . With Combitip 25, 50 mL: connect adapter to the Combitip. Insert Combitip (see p. 8). Empty battery

The Multipette plus/the Repeater plus works even if the electronics fail or the battery is run-down. Use the volume table to set volume (see p. 7) or proceed as follows to determine the required position on the volume selection dial: 1. read off the volume for position 1 of the volume selection dial from the Combitip (Fig. 2-1). 2. Divide the desired volume by the volume at position 1. Examples for the Combitip plus: volume for position 1: desired dispensing volume: calculation: position to be set:

Maintenance

5.1

Cleaning

Hint!

CAUTION!

Any servicing activities above and beyond cleaning or changing the battery may be performed only by Eppendorf AG or an Eppendorf AG service partner. Caution! Damage to device from penetration of liquid.  Do not allow any liquids to penetrate the inside of the housing.  If liquid has penetrated the inside of the housing, have the inner parts of the Multipette plus/of the Repeater plus decontaminated only by service partners of Eppendorf AG. Contact your local sales office before making a return.  Do not open the housing of the Multipette plus/of the Repeater plus.

Clean any dirt off the Multipette plus/the Repeater plus as follows.  Moisten a cloth with soap solution and remove the dirt.  To disinfect the Multipette plus/the Repeater plus use isopropanol (70 %).

5.2

Change battery

When the battery symbol appears in the digital display, you can use the battery for approximately another two weeks. 1. Push the lid in the direction of the arrow to open the battery compartment. 2. Remove the old battery. 3. Wipe over the new battery with a soft dry cloth. 4. Insert the battery with the plus symbol and the labeling facing upwards. 5. Close the battery compartment. You can also use the Multipette plus/the Repeater plus without a battery (see Empty battery on page 10). Hint!

5.3

Decontamination before dispatch

If you wish to return the Multipette plus/Repeater plus to Eppendorf AG or an Eppendorf AG service partner for checking or repair, please note the following.

WARNING!

Warning! Risk to health from contaminated Multipette/ Repeater. 1. Perform decontamination before returning or storing the Multipette/the Repeater. 2. The Multipette/the Repeater must be clean and free of hazardous substances.

Hazardous substances are: • solutions presenting a hazard to health • potentially infectious agents • organic solvents and reagents • radioactive substances • proteins presenting a hazard to health • DNA 1. Follow the instructions in the decontamination certificate. This can be found in the form of a PDF file on our home page www.eppendorf.com. 2. Enclose the fully-completed and signed decontamination certificate for returned goods with the dispatch. 12

Warranty

There is a two-year warranty on the Multipette plus/Repeater plus from the date of delivery. In the event of claims under warranty, please contact your Eppendorf distributor. Wear parts are excluded from the warranty. When returning the Multipette plus/Repeater plus, please follow the instructions relating to decontamination (see Decontamination before dispatch on page 12).

Disposal

In the event of disposing of the product, please observe the applicable legal regulations. Information on the disposal of electrical and electronic devices in the European Community The disposal of electrical devices is regulated within the European Community by national regulations based on EU Directive 2002/96/ EC pertaining to waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). According to these regulations, all equipment supplied after 13.08.05 in the business-to-business sector, to which this product is assigned, may no longer be disposed of at local government facilities or in domestic waste. To record this, such equipment is marked with the following symbol:

As disposal regulations within the EU may vary from country to country, please contact your supplier if necessary. In Germany, this obligation to mark with a symbol applies from 23.03.06. From this date onwards, the manufacturer must offer an appropriate facility for return for all equipment supplied from 13.08.05. For all equipment supplied before 13.08.05, the last user is responsible for proper disposal. Disposing of batteries Do not dispose of batteries in household waste. Dispose of batteries in accordance with locally applicable legal regulations.
