Thousand Oaks Relay For Life 2015 Saturday, May 16 - Sunday, May 17 Starts at 10am Conejo Creek Park South 1300 E. Janss Road Thousand Oaks, CA Please join us this year!, and invite your friends!

Survivor Speaker Needed We are currently looking for one survivor to speak at our Saturday evening Luminaria Ceremony. If you are interested in speaking, or if you know of a survivor who would like to speak, please contact Jackson at [email protected] or by phone at 805-210-1143. Money raised helps cancer patients and their families in many ways.

GIFT BASKETS / SILENT AUCTION Each team is responsible for bringing at least one basket to the Relay For Life event. The basket can not contain any alcoholic beverages or perishable foods. This is an excellent opportunity to include donated items or services to raise money. Please provide the total value of the basket so that we can set the starting bid appropriately. (This year we will start at 50%). We also need an attached list indicating the items included in the basket so the bidders can know what is included. You do not have to provide a breakdown of the cost. Teams can drop off their silent auction baskets at bank night/t-shirt pick up between 6:30 and 7:00pm on May 12th. Or the baskets can also be dropped off at the Relay site on Friday, May 15, 2015, from 4pm-6pm.

Business Card Supporter for only $100 Become a business card supporter for only $100. This is an opportunity for local businesses and their employees to place their business card on our Relay For Life website, and the day-of-event program. Show your support against cancer in our community. The $100 donation goes toward your individual and your team goal.

FUNDRAISING TIPS It's time to start scheduling your fundraisers with the local merchants. It's a WIN WIN situation! Dine for a Cause, Shop for Funds ... you get the drift. There are many food vendors in Thousand Oaks and Newbury Park that will support your fundraiser. Have a favorite restaurant that you frequent often? Ask the manager if you can hold a fundraiser. Most places will donate 10-20% of the funds raised back to your team. Once you schedule your fundraiser, please email a copy of the flyer for the fundraiser to Dawn at [email protected] Usually the business will produce the flyer. The flyer will be posted on the website and emailed all Relay participants.

Team Captain Workshops Hello Team Captains! This year we have changed a lot with the Relay structure and all the Team Captain Meetings have been turned to Team Captain Workshops. If you are new or a seasoned Team Captain it would be in your best interest to come to these workshops or have a representative come. Each workshop will be different. You will receive a list of dates with theme of workshop. There will also be raffles for prizes and a “big raffle ticket” for a chance to be one of the first teams to pick campsites. If you have money to hand in please arrive early since we will only accept money until 6:40pm. Hope to see all of you at our next Team Captain Workshop on April 14th at 6:30pm in the Library Marvin E Smith Room. For any additional information or questions contact April at [email protected]

Fight Back Certain types of cancer occur more frequently or exclusively in men. One such variety is cancer that starts in the testicles. Testicular cancer can affect all age groups but about half of the cases occur between the ages of 20-34. Testicular cancer is uncommon. However, since it’s highly treatable, please review the risk factors below:  An undescended testicle  A family history of testicular cancer  Being of a certain race/ethnicity, with increased risk in white males  Body size, with increased risk sometimes in tall men  HIV infection  Carcinoma in situ of the testicle  Prior history of testicular cancer

Hope to see you at the next meeting!

Talk with your doctor to get screened if any of the above factors apply to you.
