The Junction and Breakwater Trail is a crushed stone trail that runs between Kings Highway/Gills Neck Road in Lewes to Hebron Road in Rehoboth Beach and is a 5.2-mile one-way trail that is flat and easy. Parking access is either from the Wolfe Neck Road lot or the parking lot behind the Seaside Tanger Outlet. The Gordon’s Pond Trail connects to the Junction and Breakwater Trail. For more info, visit www.destateparks.com. The Bicycle Trail in Cape Henlopen State Park (Lewes) is a 3.5 mile paved loop trail through the park. It offers various branches that lead off into the marshes with wide vistas of the Atlantic Ocean, opportunity to explore the “walking dunes” and passes through Fort Miles.

For cyclists desiring a longer ride, Sussex Cyclists (a local cycling group) leads day and evening rides from 11 to 50 miles mostly through rural Sussex County roads. Visitors are welcome to participate. Information is available at www.sussexcyclists.org or by calling 302945-3360. All riders must wear approved helmets and carry liquid adequate for
the ride. Cue sheets for the rides are available on the website. For your safety, please drive carefully. (Note: bikers are asked to obey all laws governing motor vehicles). For info on Bicycle Route 1 (a northsouth route the length of Delaware) and Delaware Bicycling Maps, contact the Delaware Dept. of Transportation Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator at 302-760-2509 or visit www.deldot.gov. Back road Bicycling and Auto Tours: The Southern Delaware Heritage Trail connects rivers, scenic drives, local heritage and historic sites, country inns, bed and breakfasts, motels and antiquing. The loop trail is marked by signs which connect several historic towns west of Delaware’s beach resorts. The trail route provides 130 miles of connecting trails for cyclists and more than 70 miles of scenic country roads for motorists who like to venture off the beaten path. BIRD WATCHING Bird watching sites include: Abbott’s Mill Nature Center in Milford, Assawoman Wildlife Refuge in Frankford, Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes, Cape Henlopen State Park-Gordon’s Pond in Rehoboth Beach, Cape May-Lewes Ferry, Delaware Seashore State Park in Rehoboth Beach, Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge in Milton, and Trap Pond State Park in Laurel. Friday Highlights The Festival kicks off on Friday with children under 8 years old riding bikes or Big Wheels in a procession down the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk. Children ages 2-7 can also climb aboard the Choo Choo Train Express in Grove Park. Other nearby popular Friday activities include the kids Fantasy Trail at the Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes and both a bonfire and trick or treating in Dewey Beach. While the Sussex County Family YMCA offers movies & games, the Rehoboth Beach Museum offers history tours aboard the Jolly Trolley and the Indian River Lifesaving Station offers lantern tours -- just a few Friday favorites. saturday Highlights On Saturday, tens of thousands of people fill the ocean blocks of Rehoboth Avenue to watch a parade that includes costumed walkers, jumbo size parade balloons, floats and bands all lead by the Business of the Year Grand Marshal, Bad Hair Day? The parade begins at 4th Street, proceeds up Rehoboth Avenue to the east, turns westward at the end of Rehoboth Avenue, and returns to 4th Street. The parade is broadcast live on WRDE NBC Coast TV. Festivities following the parade include Bandstand performances, Sea Witch Hunt, kids games on the beach, scarecrow making, horse performance on the beach, broom tossing contest, artisans & vendors around the Bandstand, and dozens of business run family activities, including touch tank, pumpkin seed spitting contest, fish printing, soap carving, guessing games, etc.

The heart of the Sea Witch Festival is located in Downtown Rehoboth Beach, with the fun spilling into the Town of Dewey Beach, onto Coastal Highway, and the surrounding Resort Area.
Bandstand performances & activities continue into Saturday evening, with moonlight guiding the steps of trick or treaters to Downtown Rehoboth Beach participating merchants. sunday Highlights Fun continues on Sunday with a best costumed dog parade. The monsters line up at the north end of the Boardwalk and wag their way from the north end of the Boardwalk south to Laurel Street and return to Rehoboth Avenue. Where is the Costume Parade Registration & Line-up? Registration for the costume parade will take place on Saturday, October 29th beginning at 9:00 AM. It will be held under tenting on the Grub Grocery parking lot at 305 Rehoboth Avenue. Costumed parade walkers will register and line up on 4th Street (adjacent to Grub Grocery). Mobile restroom facilities will be located on the Beachside Bar & Grill parking lot at 251 Rehoboth Avenue. The floats and motorized parade vehicles will continue to line up on State Street beginning at 9:00 AM. (See map on this page).
Are there parking restrictions? Yes. Crowd control fencing on Rehoboth Avenue will be in place beginning at 11:00 PM on Friday, October 28th. This will prohibit parking in certain median areas on Rehoboth Avenue. 4th Street will also have some parking restrictions. Does Rehoboth Avenue close? Yes....ARRIVE EARLY!!! Rehoboth Avenue will be closed to all traffic on Saturday, October 29th at 10:00 AM and will reopen immediately following the costume parade (approximately at 1:30/2:00 PM). Rehoboth Beach LIFEGUARDS: On duty from the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend through three weeks following Labor Day. DOGS: Dogs are allowed on the beach and boardwalk from October 1 through April 30. The City has both a leash law and a pooper scooper law which are enforced. It is illegal for dogs to run at large at any time. BIKES: Bikes are allowed on the boardwalk during the hours of 5:00 AM and 10:00 AM from May 15-September 15. PARKING: Meters are in effect from the Friday immediately preceding Memorial Day until and including the second Sunday following Labor Day between the hours of 10:00 AM - 12:00 Midnight. Parking permits are available for non-metered areas. See page 47 for additional parking information. SMOKING: No smoking is allowed on the boardwalk and beach, except in designated areas on the beach.

Dewey Beach When are the lifeguards on duty? Lifeguards are on duty from May 27, 2016 through Labor Day Weekend. Are beach chairs and umbrellas available on the beach? Beach chairs and umbrellas are available to rent on the beach during the hours of 9AM to 5PM, weather permitting. Can I purchase food and drinks on the beach? Food and beverages are available for purchase, as well as Planet Ice. Are their restrooms on the beach? There are no bath houses on the beach, but there are public restroom facilities available on Dickinson Avenue (Bayside) next to the Lighthouse. Is the beach handicap accessible? Handicapped beach chairs are available from the Dewey Beach lifeguards. To reserve a chair between May 15th-September 15th, call the Lifesaving Station at 302-227-6365. To reserve a chair between September 16thMay 14th, Town Hall at 302-227-6363. Can I have a bonfire on the Beach? Dewey Beach does permit bonfires on the beach. Beach Fire permits require a fee of $70.00 cash only (a $30 fire fee, plus a $40 deposit). The $40 deposit will be refundable after 1PM the following day as long as you completely clean up the fire. Are pets allowed on the beach? Pets are allowed on the beach all times of the day from September 16th to May 14th and are allowed on the beach before 9:30AM and after 5:30PM from May 15th to September 15th. All dogs must have a Dewey Beach dog license that can be obtained at Dewey Beach Town Hall. Please help keep our beaches clean and clean up after your dog.

Dewey Beach Parking passes are required in Dewey Beach. Where can I purchase a parking pass? Parking permits are only required from May 15th-September 15th. Parking permits can be purchased at Dewey Beach Town Hall (105 Rodney Avenue). Seasonal parking permits are available for purchase Monday thru Friday between the hours of 9AM-5PM. Week, weekend and daily permits are available for purchase 24/7 at the kiosk in front of the Town Hall parking lot. When do I need a parking permit? You must either park at a parking meter or display a parking permit when parking in Dewey Beach from May 15th to September 15th between the hours of 10AM to 2AM. Parking is free Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 5PM to 11PM at permit and metered spaces.
