Coming from east or west on 290, take the Mueske exit. Coming from the west, make a U-turn onto the feeder road. Coming from the east, exit Mueske and cross through the light. For both east and west, pass Buc-ees and a storage facility. The church will be next and drive in to the left side of the building and go to the back. We will be meeting at the back of the church. It is about 20-25 miles from the intersection of I-610 and Highway 290 in Houston to Mueske. An alternate route would be to take Beltway 8 Toll Road to Highway 290 and turn west. For those coming from the south and southeast of Houston, this route is a litte longer, but will be less traffic and will have to pay tolls. Harris County Key Map 366C. This is to inform and encourage special recognition for CPA member Gary Kersten. On 3/25/11, there was an accident involving a driverless vehicle in the 1900 block of Prairie Creek. Upon arrival, we found that a female had attempted to stop a moving vehicle and sustained a severe laceration to her upper left leg and left arm when she became pinned between the vehicle and a brick mailbox. When we arrived, we found the husband, who had been driving the vehicle and exited it just prior to the accident, to be distraught. Mr. Kersten was sitting on the curb next to the victim in an attempt to try to make her as comfortable as possible. As the primary officer, I was busy obtaining the necessary information before the victim was transported by EMS and was unable to speak a word of thanks to Mr. Kersten before he left the scene. Instead of simply just standing by and waiting for us to arrive, he responded in a concerned manner and showed a great deal of care and compassion for the victim. CPA members are continuously showing their thanks to us for what we do and I just wanted to make sure that Mr. Kersten is recognized for his actions. It would make a nice entry into the newsletter at the very least. Many Thanks, . Handicap Parking Stats Pearland Officer G. Gothard, Pearland Police Department Reported by Deb Smith

Dedicated to all mothers everywhere. God love „em. Mother‟s Day May 8, 2011

by Jenny Joseph WHEN I AM AN OLD WOMAN I SHALL WEAR PURPLE

With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me. And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter. I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells And run my stick along the public railings And make up for the sobriety of my youth. I shall go out in my slippers in the rain And pick the flowers in other people's gardens And learn to spit

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat And eat three pounds of sausages at a go Or only bread and pickle for a week And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes But now we must have clothes that keep us dry And pay our rent and not swear in the street And set a good example for the children. We must have friends to dinner and read the papers. But maybe I ought to practice a little now? So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

Some Nice Benefits of Growing Older

Don‟t wait for the storm to pass; go out and dance in the rain.

People call at 9:00 P.M. and ask “Did I wake you? There’s nothing left to learn the hard way. Things you buy now won’t wear out. You can eat dinner at 4:00 P.M. You get cable for the weather channel. You have a party and the neighbors don’t even realize it. You no longer think of speed limits as a challenge. You quit trying to hold your stomach in no matter who walks into the room. You sing along with the elevator music. Your arms are too short to read the newspaper. Your joints are more accurate than the National Weather Service. Your secrets are safe with your friends because they can’t remember them either. Your investment in health insurance is finally beginning to pay off. Your eyes won’t get much worse. In a hostage situation, you are most likely to be released first. People no longer view you as a hypochondriac.

TCPAAA Annual Training-Region One P.O. Drawer ‘V’ Dickinson, Texas 77539-2022 Federal Tax ID # 76-0475701 www.tcpaaconvention.org

Greetings, The Texas Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association Region One is hosting the TCPAAA and Law Enforcement Annual Training in August of 2011 in Galveston, Texas. TCPAAA is made up of all Citizens Police Academy Alumni Associations throughout the entire State Of Texas. Region One consists of over 20+ CPA’s located on the upper Texas Coast from the Sabine River to approximately Victoria, Texas. There are over 150 chapters with well over 12000 members, state wide, that work though the year for local policing agencies and work with the officers, their families, and their communities. Once a year, we come together as a group to share ideas, train on new procedures, and network for three days in order to better serve the communities in which we live. In 2011, we will be meeting in Galveston at Moody Gardens. We are expecting 400-500+ members and officers to attend. As you can imagine, this is not an inexpensive endeavor. We are asking our corporate friends and individuals to help us to defray the cost of this project. Your generosity will allow us to bring in top quality speakers and guest trainers to help to make the annual training a great success. The theme of the Convention 2011 is Drug Awareness. We will be focusing on training our member CPA’s on methods and programs that they can take back to their communities and implement to help reduce the drug problems throughout the State. There will also be classes to certify the Sworn Police Officers in procedures to organize and start more CPA groups. Our donation levels are as follows:  Chief $20,000.00 +  Captain $10,000.00 to 20,000.00  Lieutenant $5,000.00 to 10,000.00  Detective $2,500.00 to 5,000.00  Sergeant $1,000.00 to 2,500.00  Patrolman up to $1,000.00 Any and all donations are welcomed and greatly appreciated. Checks can be made out to: TCPAAA Convention 2011Region One and mailed to P.O. Drawer V, Dickinson, Texas 77539-2022. TCPAAA Region 1 is a 501 (c) 3 non profit organization. Your help will be appreciated very much. God bless!
