Dear Parents, Staff & Students, FACTION CARNIVAL

DT38 FOUNDATION What a week! We had Miss Evans visit Mount Lawley Primary School. Miss Evans taught at MLPS and is currently on leave completing her book. She came with special guests from DT38 Foundation and Ruben Zadkovich from Perth Glory to talk about the foundation and the importance of balancing life through sport and being resilient through hard times. It was wonderful to see a number of support staff assisting the foundation and the good work they do. Our leaders did a great job organising the visitors and interviewing Ruben with some tough questions. Ruben did well to answer with some key messages for all, “In life you will be faced with some challenges, look them straight in the eye and take them on. It’s okay to fail. You learn from failing. There is always someone there to ask for advice and move on” and “Things don’t come easy, you need to work for them.” Thank you to all our students and staff for attending and being part of the session. I could honestly say we all learnt something from it. The free dress raised $305 for the foundation. Once again, well done Mount Lawley Primary.

ARTY NEWS Year four, five and six students had a special surprise last month in the art room. Former student Jade Dolman was welcomed back to her old primary school by a number of teachers and she was excited to see the transformation of MLPS. She was here to share her knowledge and skills with our students. Jade is a local noongar person and brought her magnificent painted message stones for us to see. She introduced some symbols and language from her culture which then inspired students to respond by creating their own story on a message stone. The stones can be viewed in the foyer over the next week. Do call in and have a look. On display will also be a selection of Pre Primary aboriginal inspired artwork. Jennie Downie Art Specialist.

In the weeks leading up to the carnival, students learnt and developed their jumping and throwing skills. The top 2 boys and girls from each Faction and Year group were then taken down to the Park to compete in Long Jump, Triple Jump and Turbojav. We were lucky to have beautiful weather all day which created a fantastic environment for our competition. Congratulations to all the students that competed, as you all gave your very best and should be extremely proud of your efforts. Thank you to all the teachers and staff that came and assisted on the day and staff back at school that helped keep everything to schedule. Thank you to all the parents that came and cheered and supported as spectators for this contributed to a great atmosphere for students to compete in. Reminder to those students that got into our 2015 Interschool Jumps and Throws team to please return your permission slips as soon as possible.Thankyou. Ali Roberts ( Phys-ed Specialist)
