2.2.1 Most important hazards Carbon fiber can burn if exposed directly to fire or smolder at temperatures >500°. Hazardous products of decomposition may include carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO),hydrogen cyanide (HCN),Ammonia (NH3),Acrylonitrile (C3H3N). May cause reversible mechanical irritation to the eyes and respiratory tract especially at concentrations above the occupational exposure limit. Take measures to prevent the build-up of electrostatic charge. 2.2.2 Potential health Effects Routes of exposure: Eye contact: Skin contact: Inhalation:

Ingestion:

skin, eye, inhalation. Ingestion is not considered as a possible route of exposure. it may cause mechanical irritation. It may cause irritation but not permanent disability. it may cause mechanical irritation, soiling and skin drying. No cases os sensitization in humans have been reported. dust may cause irritation and discomfort to respiratory tract. Use process enclosures and/or exhaust ventilation to keep airborne dust concentrations below the occupational exposure limit (see part 8) no evidence of adverse effects from available data.

2.3 Potential environmental effects: No significant environmental hazards are associated with carbon fibre release to the environment. Carbon fiber is not soluble in water. (see part 12) 3. COMPOSITION AND INFORMATION ON INGREDIENTS Component CAS No. ENEICS No. EU Classification Carbon Fiber

carbon fiber may pose an inhalation hazard. Remove victim to fresh air or particulate-free environment. Wear approved dust mask to avoid breathing dust. Seek medical attention if irritation persists. wash with mild soap and warm water. Seek medical attention if irritation persists. rinse with tepid water keeping eyes opened. Seek medical attention if irritation persists. Carbon fiber are not known to be toxic by ingestion. However, ingestion may cause digestive system blockage.

5. FIREFIGHTING MEASURES Carbon fiber is not flammable under normal conditions. Avoid contact with oxidizing agents or other accelerators. Risks: Carbon fiber is electrically conductive; avoid contact with electrical circuitry. Appropriate extinguishing media: Foam, carbon dioxide (CO2), dry chemical, nitrogen (N2), or water fog. Water nebulizer advised. Non-appropriate extinguishing DO NOT USE high pressure water stream as this may spread burning media: powder (burning powder will float). Protection of firefighters: wear full protective firefighting gear including self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES Personal precautions: dust mask, safety googles, gloves and appropriate disposable protective equipment (Tyvek). Methods for cleaning up: small spills should be vacuumed when possible. A vacuum equipped with HEPA (high efficiency particulate air) filtration is recommended. Dry sweeping is not recommended. If necessary, light water spray will reduce dust for dry sweeping. 7. HANDLING AND STORAGE Handling:

Storage:

avoid dust exposures above the occupational exposure limit. Use engineering controls to limit exposures to below the occupational limits. Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Wash exposed skin daily avoiding mechanical irritation. Fine dust may cause electrical shorts and is capable of penetrating electrical equipment unless sealed. Use appropriate tools toward grounding. Store in a dry place away from ignition sources and strong oxidizers. Before entering closed vessels and confined spaces containing carbon black test for adequate oxygen, flammable gases and potential toxic air contaminants (e.g. CO). Follow safe practices when entering confined spaces.

8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS / PERSONAL PROTECTION Control German or Us limits parameters Component CAS No. % ACGIH TWA Control reference Non Available/ Carbon Fiber 7440-44-0 100 ACGIH threshold limit values 1.5 mg/m3 Engineering measures: use process enclosures and/or exhaust ventilation to keep airborne dust concentrations below the occupational exposure limit. 8.1 Personal protective equipment Eye/face protection: wear safety glasses or goggles. Skin protection: wear general protective disposable clothing (Tyvek) and gloves to minimize skin contact. Work clothes should not be taken home and should be washed daily. Respiratory: approved particulate respirators (APR, air purifying) should be used where airborne concentrations are expected to exceed occupational exposure limits. Respirators must respect national standards and current legislation. General Hygiene Considerations: emergency eyewash and safety shower should be in close proximity. Wash hands and face thoroughly with mild soap before eating and drinking.

Value not available. When exposed to extremely high energy ignition sources fine carbon dust and carbon powder can form explosive mixtures with air. Avoid contact between carbon dust and carbon powder and high energy ignition sources.

10. STABILITY AND REACTIVITY Chemical stability: if stable polymerization will not occur. The substance is hardly explosive, therefore its use is quiet secure. Despite the fact, in some special procedures, mixtures of carbon with air may be explosive. Wear safety glasses or goggles. Condition to avoid: prevent contact with oxidizers and exposure to high temperatures > 290°C and open flames. Materials to avoid: strong oxidizers as chlorates, bromates and nitrates. Hazardous decomposition products: carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO), hydrogen cyanide (HCN), ammonia (NH3), acrylonitrile (C3H3N). Hazardous reaction: not existing. 11. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION Inhalation: dust may cause reparatory irritation. Skin: dust may cause skin irritation. Eyes: particulate in air may cause irritation and burning. Ingestion: carbon fiber are not known to be toxic by ingestion. Chronic toxicity: studies don't show long term risks. Carcinogenesis: none of the components of this product >0.1% is classified as carcinogenic by IARC, NTP or OSHA (see part 16). 12. ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION Mobility Non Applicable Degradability:

carbon fiber is stable and resistant against bacterial degradation.

Bioaccumulation

Non Applicable

Eco-toxicity None Carbon fiber is inert and insoluble. At present knowledge carbon fiber doesn't present environmental risks due to toxic ions.
