Introducing Realising Education for Development This is a unique and special opportunity to lead an award-winning, dynamic, student-led charity and to play a central part in supporting the education of thousands of Tanzanian students, giving young people inspiring volunteering opportunities. Realising Education for Development is a student-led charity that works to improve access to educational resources in Tanzania and support them in skills and capacity development. We have 4 major programmes: Library Refurbishment Programme, Teacher Training, Reading and Literacy Programme and Alumni Mentoring Programme. We work with Tanzanian university-student volunteers to set up libraries in secondary schools across Tanzania. To support the libraries we create, we carry out literacy initiatives and pedagogical training for teachers. In addition to teachers and secondary school students, we also invest in out Tanzanian volunteers by running skill building trainings and assisting them with career development. The Impact In our 10 years of operation Realising Education for Development, in partnership with READ International, has achieved impressive results and galvanised the goodwill and energies of communities of young people both in the UK and in East Africa, of supporters from the corporate and grant making worlds, and those in official posts. Distributed over 1.4 million books to Tanzania Renovate renovated 86 school libraries in Tanzania to help maintain reading and literacy Distributed books to over 1,000 Tanzanian schools, serving 400,000 students We’ve worked with over 1,000 university volunteers many who have been employed by various NGOs and Corporates. .

For more on our work, please go to www.readinternational.or.tz Role specification Your role as Programmes Development Manager will be to oversee and grow our programmes in Tanzania Specific duties: Programme Management  Manage and expand on current programmes (Library Refurbishment programme, Reading and Literacy Programme, Teacher Training and Alumni Mentoring Programme)  Create and maintain relationships with government education key actors  Carry out comprehensive program assessment before, during and after implementation  Mobilise, manage and maintain different programmes resources  Develop and carry out training for teachers – literacy, using textbooks in classrooms, reading promotion etc.  Develop program materials for literacy initiatives  Develop, own and manage the realistic program implementation plan and budget  Assist Executive Director with Fundraising initiatives – writing proposals/concept notes, meeting with corporate sponsors, recruit committed friends of Realising Education, maintain strategic partner relationships etc  Responsible for developing programme reports -- annual program implementation reports, results based reports, donor reports such as corporate sponsors, public funding and foundations reports  Program Human Resource Management. Oversee, manage and train Program temporary staff – field coordinators, interns, etc.  Responsible for Program Monitoring &Evaluation with the support of the ED  Volunteer Management and Mentoring  Responsible for recruiting university volunteers from different universities  Facilitate relationships between university student groups and Realising Education  Carry out pre – project trainings for volunteers on any projects that requires volunteers

Manage volunteers during different programmes – act as the main point of contact with volunteers, visit volunteers during projects, oversee their work and ensure it’s being completed on time and to Realising Education standard and assist with any problems or emergencies  Connect volunteers (Youth) with strategic partners for them to benefit other employability skills.  Build the capacity of Alumni volunteers (Youth) on the concept and applicability of Social Return On Investment (SRO) in relation to secondary students reading and literacy support program.  Lead on mentoring of alumni volunteers within our Alumni Mentoring Programme – organize capacity building trainings, assist with career development and generally maintain relationship with alumni volunteers through Realising Education organized events, facebook etc Communication  Manage social media pages (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram)  Oversee and update website  Responsible for creating newsletters, brochures, booklets, blogs, adverts and articles  Help to organise, prepare and run events (sponsor dinners, showcase events etc.)  Act in a manner that is in keeping with Realising Education’s values values.  Undertake any other duties as required and commensurate this post and those assigned by ED.

Essential BA in Education or other related field (International Development, social science, community and development studies)

Demonstrable programme management experience Demonstrable volunteer management experience Donor relationship management experience Proposal writing skills and experience. Monitoring and Evaluation skills and experience Experience in creating and delivering training and facilitation ( for students, university students, teachers) Demonstrable experience of working with young people

Desirable MA in Education or any other related field ( International Development, Community Studies etc) Corporate engagement and management will be an added advantage. 
