RELAY STYLE QS2, QS3 & QN1K**

The style QS2 is a miniature, DC neutral, tractive armature, sensitive relay. It is intended primarily use over long supply lines where the voltage drop caused by the current of a normal relay would be excessive. The contacts are Silver Impregnated Graphite to Silver. This relay complies with the safety requirements of BRB Spec. 930. The style QS3 relay is basically a QS2 relay wound for 12 & 24 volt DC operation. Where more than 2F-2B contacts are fitted, sensitivity is obviously curtailed.

RELAY STYLE QL1

This is a DC tractive armature magnetically latched line relay, designed for use where a self latching relay with a seprate release winding is required. the relay is held in the full operate condition by a permanent magnet releaseing only when the release coil is energised. A high back stop pressure ensures that the armature will not move and latch up accidentally due to vibration. The contacts are Silver Impregnated Graphite to Silver. The relay conforms to BRB spec. 935A.

ELECTRIC POINT MACHINE

(RDL-1)

Electric Point Machine (RDL-1) is a non-trailable point machine It is designed to fulfill the strict requirements of safety and reliability for operation of points. It is operated electrically and incorporates an internal point lock and detection mechanism. The machine can be provided with motor to operate on DC or AC, single phase / three phase power supply. In the event of a power failure or emergency the point can be moved to the full normal or reverse position by means of a crank handle.

The Point machine meets the following application requirements : 1.

Throwing of Points.

2.

Retaining the tongues in the end positions.

3.

Locking of tongues in the end positions.

4.

Detection of end positions of the tongues.

The point machine permits the mid stroke stopping and reversal. Completely self contained,it is easy to install and its unique design ensures minimum maintenance under operating conditions. All machines are designed for both left & right hand operation.

Construction and Operational Details The cast iron housing with a lockable steel sheet cover houses the electric motor, reduction gear box, main gear assembly with friction clutch, arrestable drive rod, contactor unit, lock slides & detection slides. When the supply is given to the motor, the torque is transmitted through reduction gear box to main gear assembly which in turn converts the rotary movement into a linear movement through a rack & pinion arrangement. The throwing force of the machine is limited by an adjustable clutch mechanism. The detector rods, used for detection of the end position of the tongues, are connected to the detection slides located in the point machine. Through the detection slide, it is ensured that end positions of the point tongues are indicated by the detection contact of contactor unit only after the proper positioning of the tongue against the stock rail. The point machine can be moved to the full normal or reverse positions by means of crank handle in case of power failure. The safety protection to the operator from sudden return of power is ensured through voltage cut-off switch. The crank handle can be inserted only after the voltage cut-off switch has been operated. The lock slides with notches are provided for internal locking.

28

Point Connections Connecting rods are used as movable links between : •

ELECTRIC POINT MACHINE (RDL-2)

Electric Point Machine (RDL-2) is a non-trailable Point Pachine

It is designed to operate rail points of high speed turn outs with Thick Web Switch (TWS) Blades with external clamp point lock. It is operated electrically and also incorporates an internal point lock and detection mechanism. The machine can be provided with motor to operate on DC or AC single phase / three phase power supply. In the event of a power failure or emergency the point can be moved to the full normal or reverse position by means of a crank handle.

The Point machine meets the following application requirements of high speed turnouts 1.

Throwing of points (TWS) providing 160mm min. opening at toe to give sufficient (60mm) flange way clearance at JOH and another 60mm throw required for clamp lock for direct locking of switch with its respective stock rail.

2.

Independent switch locking in point machine and clamp lock.

3.

Retaining of tongue rails in end positions.

4.

Detection of end positions of tongues.

5.

Solid construction, fast working, interchangeable.

6.

Large rated effort and travel.

7.

Possible protection against trailing.

8.

May be used on all type of traction : all track gauges, rail types, points and crossings.

The point machine permits the mid stroke stopping and reversal. Completely self contained, it is easy to install and its unique design ensures minimum maintenance under operating conditions.

All machines are designed for both left & right hand operation.

8. Voltage Cut-Off Switch

Construction & Operational Details The complete mechanism is housed in a cast-iron housing covered with a lockable steel sheet main cover. It consists of ; 1.

Motor with gear box

2.

Main gear assembly

3.

Drive rod

4.

Detector slides

5.

Contactor unit assembly

6.

Voltage cut-off switch.

The housing cover has a built-in lock. The outlets of the drive rod, detector slides, cover lock and opening for crank handle are well sealed. However, any water which may get collected inside, can be drained off. Two 8-way terminal strips are provided near the cable entry for easy access. Provision is made to insulate the cables, entering the machines from the housings. A neat wiring harness is used for internal wiring of the machine. When the supply is given to the motor, the torque is transmitted through reduction gear box to main gear assembly, which in turns converts the rotary movement into a linear movement through a rack & pinion arrangement. During trailing of points, the open tongue is forced to move in the direction of stock rail. Thus open tongue rail exerts its pull force on drive rod (6) and from there to driving disk of main gear assembly (2). The retention spring, inside the main gear assembly, counteracts the rotation of driving disk. As the force exerted by open tongue exceeds that of retention spring, the spring gets compressed and allow driving disk to rotate. The force at which retention spring gets compressed is the trailing resistance offered by the point machine.

36

The point machine can be moved to the full normal or reverse positions by means of crank handle in case of power failure. The safety protection to the operator from sudden return of power is ensured through voltage cut-out switch. The crank handle can be inserted only after the voltage cut-out has been operated. Locking is provided by means of external clamp point lock. The clamp point lock is a mechanical device for setting turnouts and locking and securing tongue rails. According to the gauge, rail section and toe opening different types of clamp point locks can be provided to suit the specific requirement.

Point Connections Connecting rods are used as movable links between : •

the drive rack of the machine and lock slide of clamp point lock.

the detector slides and the tongues.

Various types of connecting rods are required to suit the types and designs of the points. Figure 2 depicts one of such generally applicable connections.

CGL DATA LOGGER (DL)

Keeping people safe by monitoring signalling gears

A Safety product for Indian Railways: This product is specially developed for Indian Railways as per RDSO specification IRS: S-99/2006 with latest amendments. Data logger (DL) is one of the best technical equipment designed with state of art technology for Indian Railways to have an eye on every single status of the Signaling Gears, thus ensuring the reliable, smooth and safe railway operations. This works like a black box for Indian railways. The System monitors & chronologically records the status of various inputs like Track Circuits, Point Machines, Axle Counters, Push Buttons & Voltages of various supplies etc. connected with the signaling system in the Yard. It generates audio-visual Alarm in fault conditions, also display, print the status & failure report of logged events. The System Consist of : =Data Logger (DL) =Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) =Front End Processor (FEP) =Central Monitoring Unit (CMU) with GUI based Software. This will not interfere with the working of any part of the signaling system.
