Completely Radish! Precious pearls of freshness Radish, with the Latin name Raphanus sativus, belongs to the Cruciferae or mustard family. There are many types, colours and shapes. In the past decades radish has gained popularity and is now grown and consumed all over the world, from the Americas to Europe, the Middle East and Asia. Radish is commonly sold loose or in bunches, is often pre-packed and is more and more used in pre-cut salads. It is a healthy product to consume, with high levels of important vitamins and minerals like calcium, iron, potassium and zinc. Radish contains high levels of anti-oxidants as well. Nickerson-Zwaan: a leader in hybrid round red radish Especially within Europe, but also worldwide, Nickerson-Zwaan has a leading position in hybrid round red radish varieties for indoor and outdoor production. We have earned this position by making radish breeding one of our priorities since more than 40 years. Our breeders focus on needs expressed by growers, processors and distributors in many regions. Important characteristics are high yield, disease resistance, suitability for mechanical harvesting, strong leaf attachment, colour, internal quality, and the correct size and shape of the radish. Bulb uniformity and production reliability are among the most important demands from radish growers. For distributors and consumers a good shelf-life, quality, taste, and a fresh appearance are very important. Evolving demands from markets and customers continuously inspire Nickerson-Zwaan to develop new, ever improved radish varieties. Nickerson-Zwaan’s breeders have even adapted this crop successfully to be suitable for year-round production both indoor and outdoor. Our renowned range has now been extended with newcomers featuring strongly improved characteristics, with which we are rapidly expanding into new markets and segments. Very fine examples are Diego F1, a very uniform, productive and solid variety, and bright red Solito F1. We kindly invite you to find all the details further in this publication.
