1.2  Quality Our actions reflect our goal of zero defects. Comply with requirements such as ISO 9001, we run an effective quality management system that helps us achieve high customer satisfaction. At our German and French locations, we also adhere to the strict requirements of ISO/TS 16949. Furthermore, our quality management system requirements are based on product-specific approvals with specific requirements for production sites. We run internal and external audits to ensure the effectiveness of our quality management system, and make continuous improvements based on the results of these audits. Our quality management system is ISO 9001 certified.

Quality-related processes, specifications and instructions are documented. We have a document management system in place for document handling. Managers commit to making current versions of relevant documents available to staff and to inform them about their content.

Our testing equipment management processes ensure that quality-related test and measuring systems are recorded and monitored in accordance with defined procedures. Only suitable calibrated test and measuring systems are used to perform the relevant tests.

Internal communication is facilitated through goal-oriented meetings, group and project work as well as through telecommunications, video conferencing, and the Intranet (DriveNet).

We regularly provide information and train our employees to continuously improve quality awareness. Our DriveAcademy® system’s scope of services and qualifications provides an excellent learning environment and serves as a basis for various training opportunities. All employees are encouraged to point out suspect and faulty products or processes.

Preventive measures are in place to ensure errors are avoided in processes.

1.3  Environment and energy Environmental protection is one of the top priorities of our company. Environmental protection and sparing use of natural resources are not only an integral aspect of SEW-EURODRIVE’s corporate principles but also fulfill ISO 14001 requirements. SEW-EURODRIVE is committed to continually improve internal environmental protection and avoid environmental pollution. For SEW-EURODRIVE, energy efficiency is not only an integral aspect of sustainability but fulfills also ISO 50001 requirements. In addition to environmental protection and sparing use of natural resources, we strive for the efficient use of all the energy required during the entire product life cycle. Saving energy in the production as well as energy-efficient products are important company goals. Corporate management has introduced an effective organization and defined a variety of energy-related and environmental programs to meet internal energy and environmental goals. We consider energy efficiency and environmental protection to be an important leadership task and have therefore clearly assigned relevant responsibilities. However, quick and successful achievement of energy and environmental goals requires the support of all employees. We encourage our employees to become environmentally conscious, to save energy and to act responsibly in their working environment. Processes and activities required for energy management and environmental protection are described in detail. We take all measures necessary to minimize or avoid accidents or effects that would result in damage to the environment. We keep the use of raw and auxiliary materials and operating supplies to a minimum by using them economically. Mindful use of energy and drinking water are of great importance to us as well. We prefer energy efficient and environmentally-friendly production processes and products starting with the planning and development phases in order to avoid or reduce solid and liquid waste or emissions. We recycle or dispose of production residues in an environmentally-friendly manner. We reduce or avoid excess packaging whenever possible. Of course, we are committed to adhering to all energy-related and environmental laws and regulations as well as applying the universally accepted technical regulations. We require our suppliers to be just as conscientious when it comes to the environment.

7

P rimary energy and environmental goals Energy efficiency for our customers means: implementing products, services, and solutions for our customers that support their own energy-efficient activities. For our company, energy efficiency means: efficient use of electricity and gas in our own production facilities, constantly striving to reduce usage. Reducing emissions means: reducing the amount of solvent flowing into the environment in painting and soaking processes. Protecting soil and groundwater requires: safe handling of cooling lubricants and oils to ensure that these materials do not reach the soil or groundwater.

1.4  Safety

1.4.1  Health and safety at work We place particular value on health and safety at work and observe the OHSAS 18001 requirements. Superiors are responsible for health and safety at work. Company management provides the means to ensure that the conditions can be met. Superiors and employees are both responsible for continuous improvement of safety and health protection at work. Qualified personnel for occupational safety at various locations continuously exchange expertise, information and experience. These staff members are actively involved in implementing necessary activities at their location. Regular information, inspection and training courses promote and strengthen our employees’ awareness to act in a responsible, safety-oriented and health-conscious manner. Managers are responsible for passing on information to their employees.

Regarding health and safety at work, we exceed legal requirements to effectively prevent incidents and health risks for our employees and to minimize risks. We perform hazard analyses on a regular basis to assess risks and determine any required measures. We regularly inspect equipment that requires monitoring or inspection, and alarm systems are installed on this type of equipment as needed to protect the surrounding environment. Hazardous substances are subjected to avoidability tests prior to use, and only substances with the lowest hazard potential for humans and the environment are used.

1.4.2  Functional Safety Drive technology products are increasingly used in proximity of people. Risks of personal danger are reduced to a minimum by using functionally safe drive systems and products. SEW-EURODRIVE develops, manufactures, and sells products with functional safety features. Effective functional safety management supports consistent compliance with IEC 61508 and IEC 61511 standards. We maintain descriptions of the required processes and documents for these standards.

The Corporate Safety Guideline describes all management activities that are to be implemented for the purpose of functional safety. Product and project-independent experts monitor adherence to functional safety requirements for the products being developed. Our SafeDriveExpert training program ensures that our employees have the required qualifications. The efficiency of our Functional Safety Management System is audited and improved on a regular basis.

9

1.4.3  Information Security The ISMS Information Security Management System) ensures that these are constantly defined, reviewed, and maintained at SEWEURODRIVE. To protect and secure data, we have comprehensive safety measures in place with a clear focus on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. These measures are transparent, measurable, and fulfill international standards. Our management system fulfills all ISO/IEC 27001 standards for our locations in Germany and in France.

Our Security Policy describes and defines requirements with a focus on the following issues: – Access control and building security –  Data protection and data security –  Protecting documents and information –  Contingency plans –  Employee-related issues Documentation exists for specific security goals, risk analysis, recording of ISMS measures, documenting security incidents, and a complete description of processes. This is the responsibility of the person in charge of Information Security.

2.  Continuous Improvement Process (CIP) In order to continually improve products, services and business processes, we have introduced a custom improvement management system at SEW-EURODRIVE, based on the formal principles of SEW-EURODRIVE’s value creation system.

4.  Appointed Persons Corporate management has appointed staff members with special organizational, managerial and HR responsibilities. Managers of production, logistics and assembly plants (DCTs, EURODRIVEs) have appointed representatives for quality, environment, energy, and safety at their sites. Manager responsi bilities and authorities are defined in each job description.

13

5.  Resources We have financial, technical and personnel resources in place to provide customer-focused services.

5.1  Human Resources New employees are selected and integrated on the basis of specified requirements. Managers ensure that new employees receive basic training and have adequate time to familiarize themselves with their tasks. All employees are entitled to receive introductory and continuing training to maintain and develop their qualifications. For this purpose, managers regularly determine the need, and provide opportunities, for further training. The effectiveness of these measures is determined by the superior in charge.

5.2  Infrastructure The principles of our value creation system in accordance with WIEPRO and SPRINTER, PERFAMBIANCE etc. procedures provides the necessary conditions for economic and stable processes. In addition to the infrastructure required for workplaces and process equipment, SEW-EURODRIVE provides these added values as needed.

5.3  Maintenance Systematic and preventive maintenance of production, assembly and maintenance equipment ensures the suitability and high level of availability of such equipment.

5.4  Emergency Planning Demand-based planning ensures that customers are provided with adequate services even in emergencies.

14

6.  Management Evaluation Regular management evaluations ensure that our management systems work effectively. These evaluations determine whether services meet objectives, and whether they fulfill requirements and customer and stakeholder feedback. Insights from audits, improvement recommendations and the status of preventive and corrective measures document the required need for action.

7.  Customer Orientation We aim to meet internal and external customer requirements by implementing appropriate processes. We determine customer satisfaction by means of regular surveys, analyses, and customer evaluations and implement changes based on the results of such evaluations.

15

8.  Product Planning We develop a future product and service portfolio based on market-oriented requirements and insights from research and innovation, aligned with our corporate goals. This portfolio is implemented after approval by decision-making and steering bodies.

16

9.  Product and Process Development New products and the associated production, assembly and logistics processes are developed using a cross-functional, structured product development process. Milestones are set for each phase.

In the definition phase, basic product requirements are compiled in a requirement specification document. In the preliminary development phase, detailed development specifications are compiled and defined in a performance specification document. Subsequently, we implement development requirements in development results. At the time of series release, the development specifications have been implemented and documented and their compliance has been verified and validated.

The product development process includes the required elements of advanced quality planning as well as comprehensive measures of preventive quality assurance. Cross-departmental project management is the basis for goal-oriented project control and the efficient use of resources. By applying defined processes, we ensure that all design changes are documented. If feasible, we offer special design products based on customer-specific modifications of serial products. The same principles are adapted and applied for implementing customer-specific product developments.

10.  Consulting, Request and Order Processing We also offer consulting services to all customers as part of our sales activities. We offer project planning for drive solutions and document and archive results as required, based on data made available to us.

Before making an offer, we perform feasibility checks in the form of a contract review. Our order processing system monitors whether the delivery is made on time. If we are unable to

meet a confirmed deadline, we notify the client in accordance with the client’s priority status and take further action to ensure timely delivery.

17

11.  Procurement Upon accepting an order, suppliers enter into an executory agreement with SEW-EURODRIVE in accordance with the national statutory provisions.

Within our procurement processes, we work with qualified suppliers who receive exact procurement documentation. Supplier deliveries are regularly checked for delivery performance and quality level. We take active measures to support

and further develop supplier/customer relationships according to our high quality requirements. Our selection process for suppliers includes requirements for energy efficient, environmental, social, and ethically correct behavior.

18

12.  Production, Assembly, Logistics We plan and implement production, assembly and logistics processes required to provide agreed services to our customers. Cross-departmental teams draw up required documentation, taking into account any applicable standards and regulations. Documents relevant to products and processes are made available at the workplace as required.

Production processes are assessed regarding their capability of providing services in series. First article checks and capability tests are planned and performed. Processes are systematically monitored and continually improved.

Qualified and authorized personnel perform a final inspection of all products prior to delivery. Test results are documented and archived.

13.  Customer Support Our qualified customer support staff support our customers with their application expertise to solve application-specific drive issues.

19

14.  Training Made by SEW-EURODRIVE For general knowledge transfer, we use DriveAcademy®. With an offering which includes technical training for a variety of internal and external target groups, product training, as well as training and consulting by HR and WIEPROconsulting.

15.  Services Our worldwide service network includes a wide range of repair and service offerings for our customers.
