EUROPEAN BUSINESS AVIATION DEPARTURE GROWTH Flight activity fell 1.7% in Q3 2014, repeating Q2´s YOY fall. The UK was the bright spot, up 5.7%. France and Spain also positive. Central and Eastern Europe declined, activity in Ukraine collapsed, and Russia was -18%.

ACTIVITY BY AIRCRAFT CATEGORY There were small gains in business turboprop activity in Q3, but the business jet fleet, which contributed 71% of overall activity, fell 2.8%, the equivalent of 3,779 fewer flights than in Q3 2013.

CHARTER FLIGHT HOURS AND CHARTER PRICING The stand out gain in activity was in the ULR jet segment, 18% up, reflected in the 7.5% price increase. The same demand-price link is evident in the VLJ segment. MSJs continued to fly less, with prices deflating.

ESTIMATED EMPTY LEG DEPARTURES The overall estimate of 38% empty leg activity is slightly lower than Q2´s 40%. The midsize and light jet segments have the higher ratios, although these declined (green) in Q3. The in-demand VLJ, TP, Piston segments increased their EL ratios.

DISTRIBUTION OF FLIGHT DURATION The majority of flights in Q3 were max 1.5h (close to Q214 62%). This activity was stable YOY. The declines came in the 1.5-3h sectors, and particularly in the 3-6h segments. The longest sector flights increased, reflecting ULR jet demand.

TOP 20 AIRPORT DEPARTURES The market decline in Q3 was mirrored in declines at Geneva, Zurich, Mandelieu, Vienna. But several of the busiest airports saw substantial YOY growth in Q3: Le Bourget, Luton, Farnborough. Busiest airport Nice was stable YOY.
