LADY EAGLES BAKE SALE IT’S THAT TIME OF THE YEAR—THE LADY EAGLES WILL BE HERE ON FRIDAY, SEPT. 10 FOR A BAKE SALE. COME ON DOWN AT 10:00 AND CHECK OUT THE DELICIOUS BAKED GOODS!

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 12 IS GRANDPARENT’S DAY Grandparents Day originated with Marian McQuade, a housewife in Fayette County, West Virginia. Her primary motivation was to champion the cause of lonely elderly in nursing homes. She also hoped to persuade grandchildren to tap the wisdom and heritage their grandparents could provide. President Jimmy Carter, in 1978, proclaimed that National Grandparents Day would be celebrated every year on the first Sunday after Labor Day. GRANDPARENTS DAY SHOW & TELL BRING YOUR GRANDCHILDREN, GREAT GRANDCHILDREN, ETC. TO THE REC ROOM ON SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 12 FROM 1-2 PM FOR SOME REFRESHMENTS. JOIN THE OTHERS WITH THEIR GRANDCHILDREN AND GET UP AND TELL EVERYONE ABOUT WHY YOUR GRANDCHILDREN ARE SPECIAL TO YOU. YOUR GRANDCHILDREN CAN THEN GET UP AND TELL EVERYONE WHY YOU ARE A SPECIAL GRANDPARENT TO THEM. THERE WILL BE SOME “GRANDPARENT DAY GAMES/PUZZLES AS WELL.” THERE ARE INVITATIONS AT THE OFFICE IF YOU WISH TO PICK ONE UP AND MAIL IT TO YOUR GRANDCHILDREN FOR THIS EVENT.

Grandparents Day Poem Grandparents are special people with wisdom and pride. They are always offering love and kindness and are always there to guide. They often make you feel so confident and strong. Their arms are always open no matter what you did wrong. They try to help out in every way that they can. They love all their grandchildren the same whether you're a child, woman or man. They are always there to listen and to lend a helping hand. They show you respect and they try to understand. They give their love, devotion and so much more, that's easy to see. Grandparents, what perfect examples of the kind of person that we should be. - By Stacy Smith

BRAIN FITNESS READY TO GIVE YOUR BRAIN A LITTLE EXERCISE: SEE IF YOU CAN SOLVE THESE BRAIN TEASERS. #1—YOU ARE STANDING AT THREE LIGHT SWITCHES AT THE BOTTOM OF STAIRS TO THE ATTIC. EACH ONE CORRESPONDS TO ONE OF THREE LIGHTS IN THE ATTIC, BUT YOU CANNOT SEE THE LIGHTS FROM WHERE YOU STAND. YOU CAN TURN THE SWITCHES ON AND OFF AND LEAVE THEM IN ANY POSITION. HOW CAN YOU IDENTIFY WHICH SWITCH CORRESPONDS TO WHICH LIGHT BULB IF YOU ARE ONLY ALLOWED ONE TRIP UPSTAIRS? #2—A MAN IS TRAPPED IN A ROOM WITH ONLY TWO POSSIBLE EXITS: TWO DOORS. THROUGH THE FIRST DOOR, THERE IS A ROOM CONSTRUCTED FROM MAGNIFYING GLASS. THE BLAZING SUN INSTANTLY FRIES ANYONE OR ANYTHING THAT ENTERS. THROUGH THE SECOND DOOR, THERE IS A FIRE BREATHING DRAGON. HOW DOES THE MAN ESCAPE? #3—YOU HAVE A 3 GALLON JUG AND A 5 GALLON JUG. YOU NEED TO MEASURE OUT EXACTLY 7 GALLON OF WATER. HOW DO YOU DO IT? #4—YOU AND A GOOD FRIEND GO OUT AND HAVE A NICE DINNER TOGETHER, AND THE BILL IS $25. YOU AND YOUR FRIEND EACH PAY $15 IN CASH, WHICH YOUR WAITER GIVES TO THE CAHSIER. THE CASHIER HANDS BACK $5 TO THE WAITER. THE WAITER KEEPS $3 AS A TIP AND HANDS BACK $1 TO EACH OF YOU. SO, YOU AND YOUR FRIEND PAID $14 EACH FOR THE MEAL, FOR A TOTAL OF $28. THE WAITER HAS $3 AND THAT MAKES $31. WHERE DID THE EXTRA DOLLAR COME FROM? You can pick up the answers to these brainteasers at the office. They will be published in the next Manor Banner.
