PROFILE University Lecturer  I am holder of a Doctorate, Master‟s and Bachelor‟s degrees in industrial design currently lecturing in design at the School of the Arts and Design, College of Architecture and Engineering, University of Nairobi. I have wide experience in research in this area both at the University level and in the informal sector. I have participated in numerous exhibitions and expositions to showcase my own original designs as I write extensively in the field of industrial design and sustainable production. I have also participated in curriculum development and planning of academic programmes individually and in collaborations.

Objective To contribute to national development through dissemination of knowledge in industrial systems, design and production. Aim To collaborate with national organisations and the informal sector in design and production of industrial and utility items for local consumption and export. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  Lecturing and demonstrating in Ceramics, Leather techniques, glass and plastics, sculpture, design origination, research methods, ergonomics and anthropometry, graphics, hand weaving and spinning  Supervision of masters and PhD research  Academic publishing and exhibiting own research findings  Examination setting, administration and supervision  Representing the University at the national committee on ergonomic standards for industrial products under Kenya bureau of standards  College representative in the university committee on shows and exhibitions

ACADEMIC/ P R O F E S S I O N A L D E V E L O P M E N T  2014- published a paper tittled „Mainstreaming indigenous natural fibres for eco-friendly African product design in Kenya: a case study of (Mugio) triumphetta macrophylla fibre.  2014- Published a book titled” Communication Skills” 1

 2013- Published a paper titled “Development of disgust: Effects of delay in re-development of occupied buildings; a case study of ADD building in Kenya”.  2012- Published a book titled “Quantitative and Qualitative research methods Simplified”  2011- published a paper titled “Alleviating Gaia‟s poly-mess; An Archetypal eco-ethical product design outlook”  2011- Graduated with a PhD in design at the 46th congregation of the University of Nairobi  2011- Completed a PhD thesis in the Department of Architecture & Building Sciences titled “Integration of an eco-ethical aspect in product life cycle in Nairobi”  2010-published a paper titled “Adopting a new eco-ethical philosophy of living; the diminishing options for Nairobi and humanity”  2007- graduated with a master of arts (Industrial Design) at a congregation at Kenyatta University  1999-2003- Completed a degree course (B.A) in design majoring in industrial/ product Design  1993- Attended a course on fundamentals of computers at the institute of nuclear science of the University of Nairobi  1992-1993- Joined Kenya Polytechnic for a course on Graphic design and attained a certificate for the same.  1984-1987- Joined Eastleigh Community Centre College of Textiles and attained advance certificate in textile technology  1980-1982- Secondary education at Muruka secondary school. Sat for “O” level exams and passed with a distinctive 2nd division of 28 points  1980-1982- Joined Gititu Secondary School  1971-1979- Joined Kiranga primary school Attained certificate of primary school with 28 points

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE  1987- Joined Eastleigh Community Centre College of textile as a lecturer in charge of training  1990- to date lecturing at the University of Nairobi, School of the Arts and Design in textiles and industrial design  1990- Represented the college of architecture and Engineering in the show committee for five (5) years  1992-99- Served as official designer of the University of Nairobi Show Committee Worked as a consultant with Matinyani weavers on product design sponsored by Danida Elected as the chairman of the Association of Hand Weavers and Spinners of Kenya to date 2

Participated in the panel of Kenya Institute of Education in the preparation of syllabus on hand weaving and spinning  2007 to 2010- Lecturing at Kenya Polytechnic University College on art & design  2008 to date-- Part time lecturing at Kenya Medical Training College on medical visual communication  2008- to date. Part time lecturing at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Dept. of Construction Management and Dept. of Architecture.  2008 to 2010- Part time lecturing at Evelyn College of Design on design entrepreneurship, ethics and environmental design.  2012- External examiner for masters program in construction management, Jomo Kenyatta University.  2013- Appointed by director board of postgraduate studies, Jomo Kenyatta University, to the board of examiners for Robert Kanyuuru MA thesis entitled “An evaluation of self-build building projects in and around public universities in the Nairobi metropolitan region” 14 th November, 2013.  2013- Appointed by director, board of postgraduate studies, (UON) to board of examiners for Henry Mukwana Wanakuta for thesis titled “Incorporating sustainability into the interior design curriculum”

 1996-Participated in the International Festival of Living Traditional in conjunction with the 15 th International Congress of Ethnobiology, KICC Nairobi Kenya  2013- Conference on “Trade promotion through standardisation in east Africa", 23rd and 24th October 2013. EXHIBITIONS  1992- Held an exhibition in conjunction with Nanyuki Weavers and Spinners on Hand woven items at Sarit Center  1993-Exhibition of Hand Weavers Association at the Mall Westland, Nairobi  1994-Exhibition at Goethe Institute in conjunction with staff of German volunteer service and students of design department titled Kiondo 2000 3
