Professional Cosmetizing Make-Up

Creme Foundations (1/2 oz.)

Our Creme Foundations and Lining Shades are specially formulated to apply easily with excellent coverage, even in challenging cases. Our fragrance free cremes are not goopy or oily, but instead are silky smooth while offering tremendous opacity, color intensity and blendability, yielding a matte finish. You’ll be amazed at your ability to thinly “stretch” our cosmetics up into the hairline. This allows you to blend color naturally into thinning hair to avoid the “death mask” look. Remember, only use as much make-up as is required to achieve the look and coverage you require. Less is almost always best. In general, the flesh tone or skin shades are used as Foundations for overall skin tone application. The yellows, greens, purples, some reds and orange shades are used as Concealing Shades in the event of a post-mortem stain, jaundice, unbleached postmortem lividity, or stubborn I.V. bruising.

Those colors that are either Rouges or have reddish hues are designed to help return the lifelike appearance or healthy glow to the skin, greatly enhancing the appearance of the deceased. Use cream rouge sparingly as a little will blend nicely into the foundation and will go a long way. If used in moderation, some of the lining colors are appropriate as Eye Lining and Eye Shadow shades. Finally, the Highlighting and Shadowing shades allow you to restore the natural look to your subject in the event that your initial cosmetizing obscured their features.

Complementary Color Wheel red

violet blue

orange yellow green

A particular color’s complementary color has the ability to cancel out or neutralize the particular color. This is especially helpful in the event of various types of skin stain or discoloration. Use the Complementary Color Wheel to select the creme shade that is most likely to conceal or obscure the shade of discoloration you would like to eliminate. Red conceals Green, Yellow conceals Purple, Orange conceals Blue, etc. Tech. Tip: Thinly apply the suitable complementary color, per the wheel shown, to obscure the stain or discoloration. Apply Translucent or Skin Tone Light Powder to “Set ” the concealing shade. Remove excess powder with a powder brush and then select and apply your overall foundation as you would have had there been no discoloration.

Modeling Wax

(Can One Wax Do It All?) #88580 1 oz. Modeling Wax

Possibly the most important and versatile professional cosmetizing item in our line, the Graftobian Modeling Wax has a consistency that allows for all facets of postmortem wax use in a single product! Use Graftobian Modeling Wax for lip wax, incision filling, restoration and hole plugging. One wax CAN do it all.

#88581 1.75 oz. Modeling Wax

#88582 7 oz. Modeling Wax

Tech. Tip: For easy final smoothing of the surface of the modeling wax, use a touch of Graftobian Make-Up Remover on a brush or fingertip. Optionally, apply powder lightly with puff to smoothed wax and then apply creme colors or lip color.

Use as Lip Wax: Warm with spatula against palm until you achieve the softness you require. Apply thinly over lips with spatula. Firm enough at room temperature to shape easily for a mouth closure on even badly dehydrated lip tissue. Also firm enough to allow application of lipcolor OVER the wax on the mouth closure using a brush. Use as Incision Filler: The dimple left behind after an under-chin musculature suture mouth closure or the typical depression after a laceration has been sutured is an ideal location for use of the Graftobian Modeling Wax. Warm with spatula on palm and smooth into and over depression and sutures with spatula. Follow note above to finish the area. Graftobian Modeling Wax has been used in this way to turn almost certain closed casket situations into fully viewable presentations bringing much comfort to the grieving families. Use as Restoration Wax: Graftobian Modeling Wax is excellent for filling the ventilator tube indentation which sometimes distorts the edge of the mouth. Also ideal for restoring the inner canthus of the eye in the event of dehydration prior to death. Apply as noted above. Use as Hole Plugging Wax: Use the Modeling Wax to plug gunshot wounds and tracheotomy openings. The Modeling wax has sufficient tack to stick to any dry tissue and can plug quite a large hole if required. Use of the Flexible Wax Sealer is recommended to extend the flange of the wax plug beyond the edge of the hole. Paint on several successive layers of the quick drying Flexible Wax Sealer until you feel the area is properly coated. Makeup can then be easily applied over the sealed surface.

Flexible Wax Sealer Flexible Wax Sealer is optionally used to add a thin plastic-like layer over the top of an area treated with the Modeling Wax. Simply brush the sealer on over the wax using the brush cap included or using a larger brush if so desired. Several coats are usually required as each coat is micro-thin and dries very quickly. Apply make-up over the sealed wax as you would any skin. #88584 Flexible Wax Sealer

Face Powder

Face Powders are used to “Set” cream based make-ups. Our Non-Clumping powder formulation proves very helpful to the cosmetician in ease of use and reduced mess. Available in three shades and in both a convenient fi oz. Shaker top container or our 5 oz. Jumbo Bulk tub. Translucent is a neutral setting powder which will not change or dull colors and therefore is ideal, among many other things, for use on the lip make-up. Skin Tone Light is a translucent light powder which works well to set light to medium skin tone make-ups. Skin Tone Dark is used to set make-ups on very dark skinned and African American skin shades.

Lipcolor Cups & Stacks from Graftobian provide you with often difficult to find Male shades as well as five very popular Female shades. Our formulation flows easily from your brush to the lips and yields a low gloss, satin finish. If you need to tone down the finish a bit more, use an application of our Translucent Face Powder lightly applied. As learned in many a mortuary science class, “The Money is in the Mouth!”, and Graftobian Lipcolor as the final application to your lip closure will be the finishing touch.

Lining Pencils from Graftobian can help tremendously in the eye lining, eye brow filling and lip lining of your subject. Our smooth and creamy formulation is like creme make-up in a 7 1/2” pencil form. Important tools in any cosmetizing kit.

#88621 Face Powder, 5 oz. Translucent #88623 Face Powder, 5 oz. Skin Tone Light #88624 Face Powder, 5 oz. Skin Tone Dark

Tech. Tip: Apply powder using a well loaded powder puff which has the powder worked into the velour fabric of the puff. Transfer the powder from the puff to the skin using a rapid patting motion, not a wiping motion. This pressing of the powder into the make-up dries all residual moisture left in the make-up and yields a matte surface which is dry and smudge free to the touch. If make-up begins to offset onto the puff, it is time to reload the puff with more powder and continue until finished. Brush away any excess powder with a good quality Powder Brush.

Pro Adhesive & Remover Pro Adhesive & Remover are used when you need something to stay put virtually no matter what, such as the eyelids or lips. Coat both surfaces to be attached (Small brush cap provided). Allow to dry clear. Carefully attach or press the surfaces together. Repositioning is unlikely so be careful to line things up properly the first time. An advantage over super-adhesive type products is that Pro Adhesive does not crust or create a flakiness. If removal is required, apply the Pro Adhesive Remover with a cotton swab #88510 Pro Adhesive 1 oz. until Pro #88521 Pro Adhesive Remover 2 oz. #88522 Pro Adhesive Remover 8 oz. Adhesive is dissolved enough to clean up and start fresh.

Make-Up Remover

Setting Spray

Make-Up Remover has four primary uses for the post-mortem cosmetician. 1. Use on a cotton swab to clean make-up out of hair that may have been inadvertently colored during cosmetizing. Graftobian Make-up Remover is not a desiccant and therefore will not dehydrate the hair or the surrounding tissue when you clean the hair with it. 2. Use a small amount of Make-Up remover on a fingertip to smooth modeling wax prior to applying make-up. 3. Use to remove make-up from areas of skin that need cleaning. 4. Use to clean brushes.

Setting Spray can be used in addition to face powder, laying a thin smudge proof layer over the make-up. Setting Spray, however, to the post-mortem cosmetician may prove to be more helpful as a hair setting spray. #88698 - 2 oz. Setting Spray

GRAFTOBIAN COSMETIZING MAKE-UP This catalog represents Graftobian Make-Up Company’s entrance into mortuary cosmetology. Our line of Professional Cosmetizing make-up is derived from our roots in Theatrical Make-up for Film, Television and Stage. For years, Graftobian has been known for its fine quality, cream based foundations and lining shades whose ease of application, blending and setting produce beautiful and professional results. What drew us to the Funeral Director market was the response we were hearing from so many of you who have tried our products for cosmetizing and have reported back regarding the incredible coverage of the creams, the versatility of our modeling wax, the fine texture of our powders, the quality of our lip colors, etc. We have pulled together all of the items most often requested from us for cosmetizing and have created this informative guide to the Graftobian Professional Cosmetizing products, of which the kits on page 7 are the most popular. What we know about our products as used in post-mortem cosmetizing, we have learned from you and your peers. As you discover new uses for our products, or if you wish we provided additional items, please share your ideas with us. Signed,

Eric G. Coffman Graftobian Make-Up Co.
