A metal anchor which can be welded to RSJ‟s, sheet piling and other metal structures to accept 15mm tie rod. Anchors must be welded continuously all the way round – load tests should be conducted before use.

For safety reasons we state that admissible loads for a low concrete strength of 15 N/mm.

Load Direction Axial Tension Diagonal Pull 45 Shearing 90

This means in practice that the anchors are often installed the next day after concreting and are already loaded.

APT Anchors The new APT anchor range of fixings provide the construction professional with a single fixing anchor for the majority of fixing needs. A fixing for all substrates. No plugs or inserts needed.     

Single thread design to give maximum grip with minimum insertion torque. Balancing thread designed to ensure correct alignment of anchor with drilled hole. One piece fixing for ease of installation and reduced cost. Uses standard drill sizes. Threading system allows for total removal of anchor from substrates. Self tapping multi-substrate anchor.

Mechanical Anchor For securing single sided formwork to rock or concrete walls. Hole diameter required: 35mm–37mm. Conduct tensile tests before applying final load. A rock anchor for 20mm tie rod is available. Technical details on request.

Size mm

Areas of Application Concrete – Brick – Wood – Stone – Block – Marble. Thread designed to provide positive anchorage into the substrate. Thread provides safe anchorage over full embedment of anchor. Threaded anchorage is not subject to expansion pressure and maintains its fix without preload. No expansion gives close edge fixing ability.

10 KICKERS

Kik Anchor (With Thread Adjustment) An ideal method for accurately siting formwork prior to forming a wall or upstand, thus replacing the need to form a full concrete kicker. The anchor is pushed into the fresh concrete along the approximate centre line of the wall to be concreted. Concrete end caps (cover 50mm) are used to cover the ends of the threaded rod. Each rod can be accurately adjusted against the line of formwork.

Kik Lok Anchor

A high-quality, robust alternative to the threaded bar kicker. Simple and easy to adjust with fingers. The anchor is pushed into the wet concrete or tied to the reinforcement. The spacer rod can then be easily adjusted by thumb and finger only.

11 BEAM-FORM

Disposable Formwork for Ground Beams and Pile Caps Polypropylene sheets provide contractors with a fast and effective means of forming ground beams and pile caps. Sheets are light-weight and can be shaped by scoring and bending to form any ground beams on pile cap profile. Advantages  easily handled – light and rigid  generally requires less excavation than other formwork methods  can be scored and bent, or cut to form any profile  can be supplied „made-to-measure‟, ready to install  can be installed by unskilled labour  a sharp knife is the only tool required  less concrete wastage  no striking – beam formwork is left in position  no conventional formwork to strip, clean and oil Installation 1 Forming Beam Sides only The foundation trench is excavated a little oversized and a suitable base is formed onto which the reinforcement is placed using track or concrete block spacers. The beam formwork is cut into strips of the required size and is placed either side of the reinforcement with spacers fixed as shown to give the required concrete coverage. The sides can have a small bent return at the base to aid stability. Then, uniformly backfill to within about 50mm of the top of the beam form. 2 Using a Preformed U-Section A U-section can easily be formed by scoring and bending the polypropylene sheet to the required dimensions. Erection is similar to Method 1 except the preformed U-section is placed in the excavated trench first, followed by the reinforcement. Spacers, depending upon the type used, can be fitted to either the beam formwork or the reinforcement as convenient. To form a continuous beam, the ends of each section of the formwork can either be overlapped or butted together and taped using a PVC tape. Note: Spacers for both sides and base should be at a maximum of 400mm c/c.

Accessories  Continuous plastic spacer is an ideal spacer for ground beam form work and is highly recommended.  Mesh Fix spacers are a good alternative.  Square bar spacers provide a sound support on the base of a ground beam. Recommeded for heavy beam cages. . One of our sales engineers will be pleased to visit your site to determine your requirements and be on-hand to advise on installation.

12 GROUND HEAVE

Claylite A compressible fill, low density expanded polystyrene. Used to reduce the pressure exerted on reinforced concrete ground beams or on the vertical face of concrete foundations, caused by the expansion of clay soils (clay heave) during the life of the structure. Claylite for standard applications with ground beams and in even sided trenches. Claylite Castellated for fitting under lightweight ground beams. Claylite Super for extra strength in uneven sided trenches. Claylite Super Castellated gives added strength and stability over Claylite Castellated.

Size

Bentorub Hydroswelling Waterstop consists of bentonite clay and butyl rubber and is used for the sealing of construction joints in concrete. The system is ecological, user friendly and will remain permanently active within the joint for the expected life of the structure. As concrete cures, shrinkage will occur, with voids and small cracks appearing in the construction. When in contact with water Bentorub expands and will fill these voids or cracks thereby maintaining a watertight seal of the joint. Held in place by shot firing or with a bento-cage.

SYSTEMS

Steel Mesh Barrier Mk II (Registered Design) Steel Mesh Barrier has been the forerunner in edge protection for over a decade, inspiring a completely new way of looking at temporary fall prevention systems within the construction industry. This new design of Steel Mesh Barrier incorporates all of its previous benefits whilst being stronger, more durable, adjustable and lighter! It has also been designed 10 cm shorter for ease of transport and handling. The Steel Mesh Barrier is now available in 2 standard sizes, 2.6m and 1.3m.

Length mm 100 150 200

28 Preguard PREGUARD™ is an advanced guardrail system, enabling scaffolders, using either tube and fitting or system scaffold, to install collective edge protection on the lift above prior to commencement of work on the next level. Using telescopic guardrails attached to an innovative vertical post, PREGUARD™ removes the need to work at height without guardrail protection.

Alsipercha Safety system designed to prevent falls from height during the decking for horizontal formwork operation. This is a “0” factor fall arrest system that is particulary useful on PERIMETERS. It provides total safety when placing: decking panels, edge protection, slab edges, stop ends and generally all situations that may arise during the formworking process, where there is a risk of a fall from height. It is easy to assemble and use. No external accessories are required

SCAFFSTEP The SCAFFSTEP™ is a step-up device, designed to enable a scaffolder to reach up to erect and dismantle scaffolding in a safe manner. The scaffolder is prevented from falling by a guardrail that is already in place, and the SCAFFSTEP™ utilises a ledger above which eliminates the need for additional components to be used. SCAFFSTEP™ can be used in any position along the guardrail, not just at the standard; giving the user the flexibility to attach the SCAFFSTEP™ at the optimum position along the platform. The feet at the bottom of the SCAFFSTEP™ are adjustable to accommodate different guardrail heights, and together with a nonslip working surface, provides the scaffolder with a safe working platform when working with tube and fitting, as well as all systems using tubular ledgers. The SCAFFSTEP™ is often used in pairs, with two operatives working together, particular on longer facades

Net Barrier System The increasing bay sizes, greater eave heights, and a movement towards curved standing seam roofs on steel framed structures, when combined with the generally accepted improvisation culture within edge protection, have raised serious questions about the performance of existing edge protection solutions. Two events have produced dramatic change in this area of work: The publication of a European Performance Standard for Temporary Edge Protection, and the launch of the Net Barrier System.

29 SMB STAIRS Temporarily protecting the edges of stairways during construction has previously been complicated and expensive. The varied nature of the stairs, landings, and returns, often required many cut tubes, sharp ends, and much purpose built protection. The new Steel Mesh Barrier Stair (SMB Stair) has be designed to solve these problems, offering a systemised solution that can stand alone or integrate with either SMB system. The SMB Stair provides continuous edge protection along staircases, and at returns the Gap Closer ensures continuity and protects any sharp edges. The landings are protected using the SMB system, linking seamlessly to the SMB Stair. The SMB Stair is supported on the adjustable posts, and can be fitted to any angle of permanent or temporary stairway. It can also be raised to allow access to work on the outside edge of the stair unit. The SMB Stair is a single component, and can be fitted to either side of the staircase

Needle Propping Alongside the major Façade Retention schemes, Formwork Direct provides the same proactive approach to smaller needling, propping and general shoring requirements within existing structures. 32 SYSTEM SCAFFOLD

System Scaffold General Application for System Scaffold In all applications, system scaffolds in general they have several advantages over traditional tube and fitting scaffolds. This is illustrated by the ever-increasing use of this type of scaffold in the construction environment, and the trend within the scaffolding industry away from tube and fittings when replacing or increase stocks of materials. Formwork direct is aware of this situation and offers a comprehensive supplier service based on various systems. System scaffolding has a wide variety of applications, and major benefits to the customer include: Speed - The in-built joints, clearly identifiable components and the strong, simple wedge connections, guarantee a faster erection time. Safety - In the very earliest stages of the erection process, the wedge connections ensure that ledgers and braces are secured to the standards, and there is no risk of materials falling. The wedge lock system guarantees that all ledgers and diagonal braces are secured immediately they are placed. This allows immediate, safe erection by just one person at any height. The system scaffold enables a reduction in material usage as compared to traditional scaffolding, for instance it dispenses with the need for ledger bracing in many applications.

Industrial Applications In the Industrial field, system scaffold has proved its advantages in many locations. It allows working platforms, whether in the form of towers, birdcages or hanging scaffolds, to be quickly formed to facilitate all maintenance and installation of insulation, and construction projects.

In power stations and chemical plants, where installations and pipelines require regular checks and maintenance, the significantly faster erection times result in a great benefit in terms of reduced shutdown times. In these cases, and particularly when an unforeseen disruption occurs, system scaffolds help to minimise downtime, their inherent safety and fast construction are a great advantage. Where scaffolds are required for access inside tanks and ovens system scaffolding offers several significant advantages over traditional tube and fitting scaffold: Where access is restricted by the need to pass materials through manholes or other such small openings, the compact size of system components makes handling easier. When working in conditions of poor lighting or extremes of temperature, the built in fixings and simple erection procedure makes for faster and safer erection. Due to its fixed length components and built-in node points, system scaffolding is particularly well suited for use in circular or spherical tanks and vessels.
