Royal Pools and more is a family owned and operated company formed in 1986. With our early beginnings in construction, we have used our expertise to install in-ground pools and spas for the past fourteen years. As we began our expansion into the swimming pool industry we installed fiberglass pools made from one of the industry’s best manufactures, Royal Fiberglass Pool, now a part of Trilogy Fiberglass Pools. Five years ago we expanded our company with the installation of vinyl in-ground pools. The high demand for both fiberglass and vinyl products have afforded our company the opportunity to delve into a new venture, by fulfilling the needs of our clientele. We are excited to offer another option when helping customers build their "Backyard Paradise!" In April 2012, we opened our first retail store, making it easier for customers to get expert advice. We are excited to display our top-of-the-line products and promote our professional pool services. Fiberglass Q&A When we inform a potential customer about the in-ground swimming pools we install, we let them know all of the information possibly available. We have nothing to hide from our potential customers. Since we install both Vinyl liner and Fiberglass pools, it does us no good to hide information. We just want our customers to make the most educated decision they possibly can! Here are some of the most common questions that we get asked on a daily basis with fiberglass pools. We created this to clear up any confusion about our fiberglass products. If we have missed a question that you would like to ask, please feel free to let us know what it is and we will give you an answer. Q: I have heard from other companies and other people that a fiberglass pool can lift out of the ground. Is this true? (This is our most important question to answer, so we have gone into great detail to answer this questions.) A: We actually get this question at least 5 times a week . The truth is, that all in-ground pools can come out of the ground or have a “floating liner.” A swimming pool, IF NOT INSTALLED PROPERLY, can pop out of the ground by “ground water”. Ground water is the natural table of water underneath the earths surface. If the ground water around the swimming pool, out weights the water weight if the water and the pool itself, then and only then can a swimming pool lift out, of the ground. Also for a vinyl liner the liner will float off of the walls and floor. Lets start with concrete pools. Lifting or cracking becomes more of an issue with concrete pool in comparison to fiberglass pools. Due to the fact that water must be removed in order to re-paint or re-plaster a concrete pools surface. Re– painting and re-plastering requires the pool to be drained. A fiberglass pool should never have to be drained unless it is by your pool professional, because there is no re-painting involved. There is no full-proof way of removing “ground water” underneath a swimming pool, with out a very intricate and expensive drain system. As for a vinyl liner pools, the pool will not lift out of the ground per-say, but the vinyl liner will definitely have problems. When ground water gets underneath a liner it pushes the liner off the walls and floor causing what is known as a “FLOATING LINER.” When this problem happens, at the very least it will cause immediate wrinkles, and at the very worst it will destroy the vermiculite floor and rip the liner off of the pool fittings. Forcing you to repair the whole floor and replace a liner earlier than anticipated. Just as a concrete pool there is no way of protecting a vinyl liner pool from ground water, except for around the walls. Royal Pools and More installs what is called a “Dry Pit”, to help prevent a floating liner.

Structural Integrity Fiberglass pools Fiberglass pools are the strongest pool in the industry per square inch. The pressure that is applied to a fiberglass pool by “ground water” must be much greater, than the pressure against a concrete pool or a liner pool. By the time a fiberglass pool will begin to “bulge” a concrete pool might have begun to crack and leak out water, and a vinyl liner pool will have definitely begun floating. Steel Wall, Vinyl Liners Vinyl liners are the lowest quality interior material in the pool industry. Liners are not a permanent interior of the steel wall structure, making them subject to even more “ground water” damage than a fiberglass pool. A vinyl liner rests on the walls and floor of the pool structure, and due to the light weight of vinyl, it takes very little “ground water” pressure to float them. Water will flow through the vermiculite floor, and begin to float the floor. Or water will flow through the steel wall panels (even if they are taped) flowing between the liner and vermiculite causing the liner to float. (We actually see this happen more often than any other problem in the pool industry)

Fiberglass Q&A Concrete Pools Concrete pools, considered a very durable pool, although not as durable than a fiber glass. When concrete pools get to much “ground water” they can crack; just like any other concrete product you have ever. It is probably the biggest issue with concrete swimming pools. Obviously concrete pools are considered a very heavy product. Even though they are so heavy, they can lift out of the ground, due to the fact that they are not “anchored together to the surrounding deck. Q: How does Royal Pools and More keep their fiberglass pools from being damaged by “ground water”? Royal Pools and More takes great pride in our installation process, which has given us the opportunity to become the strongest fiberglass pool company in the area. Over the years we have installed pools all over the area, changing our process multiple times. Over the past few years we have developed the most refined, efficient and strongest installation of a fiberglass pool. Assuring to our customers your pool is safe from any elements. Below is a rough description of our process, that will give you ease of mind that your pool is safe forever. Combined with the best warranty in the entire industry , no other company can compare.

1- We only backfill our pools with crushed rock. We do not backfill the pool with sand. As sand is not a problem to install with, but it does not react well with water and self compacts when water is added. This is to make sure it does not bulge, or buckle. Water will pass through the rock and can be removed through our “Dry Pit.”

2- We also install our “Rod Locking Collar” to “anchor” the swimming pool to the surrounding concrete decking, making sure the pool will never move. This process involves tying the pools coping, and concrete together with rebar and pouring a 6”-9” concrete collar on top and underneath the swimming pool coping. (Image Below)

3- We also hang all hoses to our coping so they will not settle or move with natural ground settlement. All of our hoses are also pressure tested assuring no leaks.

4– Also, we are the first and only company to install a “Dry Pit” on every swimming pool. A “Dry Pit” is made up of a 12” wide pipe that is set to go from the top of your concrete, to the bottom of the pool, on the deep end. The “Dry Pit” will have a skimmer top, so it will look like another skimmer to the swimming pool. We install our “Dry Pits” so that you can remove the lid and drop a pump inside to remove any ground water that is underneath the pool . Thus eliminating any thought of your fiberglass pool lifting, shifting or bulging.

Fiberglass Q&A Q: Why are fiberglass pools so expensive? A: Statistically a fiberglass pool is the cheapest swimming pool in the industry to own. It never has to have a liner change, like a vinyl liner pool does. Also it never has to be re-painted like a concrete pool. We like to say it’s the only pool that you can make a final payment on it. Out of all of the in-ground swimming pools, it takes the least amount of chemicals to maintain the water chemistry, since the finish is non-porous because algae will never stay attached. It is about 50% less money to maintain a fiberglass pool than a vinyl liner pool and about 75% less expensive that maintain that a concrete pool. Upfront, a fiberglass pool is the most expensive pool to purchase because of a few factors. 

The whole pool is made in a controlled environment, and quality checked for strength and consistency

The cost of fiberglass and resin are continually rising due to the popularity of the product in multiple industries.

All of the fiberglass pool have to be shipped by truck and trailer, to the customers job sight. State permits are always required to go down highways and express ways. Some deliveries require multiple car escorts.

Q: How do you deliver a fiberglass pool. A: Depending on access, we normally truck deliver the pool or spa to your location and then lift it with our back hoe or a crane to its final resting place. Q. How difficult is a fiberglass pool to maintain? A: Maintenance is easy allowing you to spend more time enjoying your pool. The gel coat finish is smooth, hard, and non-porous making it resistant to algae. This feature reduces chemical usage and maintenance costs. Unlike other types of pools, there is never a need to drain a one-piece fiberglass pool. Q: Why is a Trilogy Fiberglass Pool the best swimming pool in the industry? A: Trilogy Manufacturers all of their swimming pools with the highest technology In the industry. All of their pool are quality tested at crucial points of the manufacturing process. Trilogy also uses “Aeronautic Core Technology”, making their pools 8 times stronger than any other fiberglass pool. Taking a step away from the rest of the industry and not using a gel coat finish allows Trilogy to show off their “Hydro Stone Finish. Which is algae resistant, and has more color depth than a traditional gel coat or a vinyl liner. Trilogy has their own test labs making sure their product stays at the top of the industry. In these labs they test for strength and product consistencies. Last but not least Trilogy has the best warranty in the entire pool industry. Providing a quality control documentation packet kept on file forever! Limited Lifetime Structural Warranty, Lifetime Surface Warranty, The best warranty the industry has to offer.

Example of work schedule and time line for FIBERGLASS POOLS

April 2014

Fiberglass Construction Process Excavation Crew: DIG HOLE: This is the very first step to creating your backyard paradise. Our crew will come out and spray out the actual location of the pool. Set our laser level and begin to excavate your pool hole. During this step there will be an excavator and dump truck in your back yard removing dirt or spreading dirt in the yard if its needed. (Start getting creative ideas for laying out concrete, the excavator will remove grass for concrete to speed up the process if possible!) CLEAN AND SCREED POOL FLOOR : After the hole is excavated our crew will enter the hole and clean it of loose debris. At this point our dump truck will return with crushed rock and we will screed the bottom of the hole with the rock for the bedding of the pool to rest on. After this is done your pool will be dropped in its hole to be leveled! PLUMB THE POOL AND BACKFILL: After the pool is leveled, the pool will be plumbed with its returns, drains and skimmer. At this point there is a mandatory “underground plumbing inspection.” (Work may stop at this point until the inspection is complete) After the inspection is complete the crew will begin to fill the pool with water. As the pool fills with water we will backfill the pool with crushed rocked, making sure the walls stay straight, for perfect installation.

CONSTRUCTION CREW: FINISH BACKFILL AND PLUMBING: At this point in the process the excavation crew will begin to move on to the next project, and the construction crew will start to come in. Construction crew will get caught up on the project and finish any backfilling and plumbing that needs to be done. They will also begin to dig a trench to where the pool equipment will go and run the plumbing towards that area. FRAME FOR CONCRETE: After the crew gets on the job there will be a meeting with the home owner to discuss how the layout of the concrete will be designed. (Each pool comes with 4’ of concrete around the pool, any additional concrete around the pool should be discussed with sales rep for pricing.) After the layout is approved the crew will begin to frame for concrete. At this point there is a mandatory inspection before pouring concrete. (Work may stop at this point until inspection is complete.) Forms will also be setup around the perimeter of the pool for cantilever coping. INSTALLATION OF EQUIPTMENT: Our crew will also install a frame for your concrete equipment pad. after the pad has cured we will begin to place the equipment and get it plumbed and running as soon as possible. START ELECTRIC AND GAS: At this point we would like to get the electrician and gas plumber out to wire up the equipment pad and plumb the gas line for the pool heater. (Electricians will need to get in house to run electrical from breaker box) POUR CONCRETE: After everything is set up concrete will be poured and finished. Please do not walk on concrete for 12-24hrs. (All colors for concrete must be submitted within 24hrs of ordering concrete.)

www.royalpoolsandmore.com

Pg. 9

Fiberglass Construction Process Finishing Crew: Finish Electric : At this stage of the process any electric that needs to be finished will be done and all equipment will be programed and set up for customer tutorial. Install auto cover and other features: If you have ordered an auto cover with your pool at this point it will be installed. (If the pool has a winter cover on it, the cover will be installed at closing season.) All other features will also be finished and set up appropriately (waterfalls, roman Fountains, dive board Etc.) Final clean up: Now that the pool is all set up and running it is time to clean your pool and balance the water. This is the perfect time for the customer equipment training.

The construction process calendar displays TIME FRAMES FOR COMPLETION. ONE STEP IN THE PROCESS MAY COMPLETED BEFORE ANOTHER STEP IN THE PROCESS., THIS IS JUST A GUIDLINE TO THE MAIN PROCESS. Royal Pools and More will do its best to have employees in the backyard and working every day. There will be days where there will NOT be any progress done on the job site due to weather, town inspections, and scheduling process of crews. Scheduling consecutive jobs as we do in our industry may cause delays with our crews , but we assure you they will be there at there earliest convenience.

Steel Wall Vinyl Liner Q&A Here are some of the most common questions that we get asked on a daily basis about vinyl liner pools. We created this to clear up any confusion about our vinyl liner pools and their corresponding products. If we have missed a question that you would like to ask, please feel free to let us know what it is and we will give you an answer. Q: How is a vinyl liner pool constructed? A Vinyl liner pools are constructed in three phases: Excavation, Panel and coping installation, and setting the liner. Excavation: This is the first phase of the construction process, where we mark out the pool location and begin breaking ground. We will excavate starting from the deep end of the pool, shaping the floor, creating the shallow end, and over digging by 2 feet on each side of the pool for what is called the “shelf. Panel and Coping installation: After the hole is completely excavated, our crew will string where the steel walls will be installed. After making sure everything is squared up, the crew will install the steel panels and shortly after will install the pool coping. The coping is the pools interior edge made out of aluminum and concrete will be poured against it. Setting the liner: After the steel walls and stairs are installed, the crew will begin to lay the final grade of the floor by pouring the vermiculite. Vermiculite is installed very similar to concrete, mixed and poured and takes a couple of days to fully cure. The finished product is solid but not hard like concrete, it is very forgiving to the liner with taking a lot of pressure from swimmers feet with out tearing the liner. After the vermiculite is poured the liner will be installed the same day. We inform our customers to not enter the pool for up 76 hours allowing time for the vermiculite to cure completely. Q: Are vinyl liner pools good quality pools? A: A vinyl liner pool is a great pool, it can be 90% customizable and you have tons liner options to choose from. Also, the best thing about a liner pool is that it has the cheapest “up front” price tag. Although a liner pool has the least amount of strength due to the vermiculite floor and the liner, and it is about middle of the road as far as maintenance goes. It has definitely earned its spot in the pool industry. (It is the most popular pool in the Midwest and on the East Coast!) Q: Are all liner pools built with steel walls? A: No, Not all vinyl liner pools are built with steel walls. It used to be the norm to build liner pools with wooden walls, but they didn't have to much strength. With todays technology they are built with either steel walls or polymer walls. Polymer walls are sold as an upgrade from the steel kit and they are also sold as noncorrosive and stronger walls than steel. We at Royal Pools and More do not believe in the use of Polymer do to the shrinking and expanding of the plastic, and we do not believe it is a stronger pool. Q: How often do you have to change a liner? A: Liners last on average 4-9 years. There is no doubt that a liner could last shorter or longer than that. It is very important to keep chemicals properly balanced and keep any dogs out of the pool to help protect the liner. Q: What does an average liner cost? A: Liner costs very on different factors such as length, width, depth. On average a liner can cost anywhere from $3,000.00—$6,000.00. Q: Why should I choose a vinyl liner over a fiberglass or concrete pool? A: Liner pools may not have the strength of fiberglass or concrete pool, but it has a great entry level price. It is also very customizable.

(Start getting creative ideas for laying out concrete, the excavator will remove grass for concrete to speed up the process if possible!) INSTALL WALLS AND PLUMBING: After the hole is excavated our crew will come in assemble the pool walls and install plumbing. The walls of the pool are created by bolting steel panels together and then leveling the walls off. At this point they will also be cutting holes for plumbing and lighting. After all of the holes are cut into the panels the crew will begin to start installing the schedule 40 plumbing. At this point there is a mandatory “Underground inspection” work may stop at this point until the inspection is complete. POUR FOOTER AND BACKFILL POOL: At this point in the construction process our crew will make sure all of the steel is set in proper position. Then we will bring in a concrete truck and pour concrete around the base of the pool. We will also pour the pool concrete equipment pad. This locks the steel walls in place assuring they do not move. After the concrete is cured, the next working day we will begin to run any plumbing electrical and gas lines , that may run around the pool and proceed to backfill.

CONSTRUCTION FRAME FOR CONCRETE: Once the pool is completely backfilled, our crew leader will meet with you to discuss how you would like the concrete. Then we will begin to frame for concrete around the pool. At this point there is a mandatory “bonding and pre-pour inspection” work may stop at this point until the inspection is complete. POUR CONCRETE: After all of the forms are set up and the inspection is passed, we will pour concrete. POUR VERMICULITE AND INSTALL LINER: When all of the concrete has setup, it is time to pour the vermiculite. The bottom of the hole will be cleaned of loose debris, and strings will be pulled to lay out the pool floor. After all strings are set our crew will begin to pour vermiculite. At the end of the day after the crew has worked there way out of the pool, the liner is ready to installed.

Finishing Crew: Plumb Equipment: All equipment will be installed on the concrete pad. Once the water is up in the pool, we will start up the equipment and get the water circulating. Finish Electrical: At this stage of the process any electric that needs to be finished will be done and all equipment will be programed and set up for customer tutorial. Install auto cover and other features: If you have ordered an auto cover with your pool at this point it will be installed. Automatic Safety Cover

At Royal Pools and More, there is nothing more important to us than safety. Anytime our customers ask us. What technology do you have to keep our family safe? The First product that we talk about is the Eclipse Coverstar Automatic Pool Cover! About 95% of our customers are protected by the Eclipse auto cover, and we couldn't be any happier knowing that safety is on the top of your minds also!

www.royalpoolsandmore.com

Pg. 29

Automatic Safety Cover

Safety There's no need to put the things you value most at risk. A COVERSTAR safety cover system is designed to give you the kind of peace of mind you need to truly enjoy your pool without worries.

ASTM Safety Cover Material COVERSTAR systems use only cover fabric which is tested and certified to meet the American standard for testing and materials (ASTM) standard for safety pool covers.

Secured Key Switch No need to worry about unsafe access to a COVERSTAR safety cover because the power key switch is located in a lockable box.

UL Electrical & Safety Cover Certified Any time there is electricity near a pool, you want to be sure it's safe. A COVERSTAR safety cover system is UL listed and certified to meet the stringent standard for automatic safety pool covers.

Simply flip a switch, and your Coverstar automatic safety cover will create a barrier over your pool that no child or pet can penetrate. Custom-built to fit your pool perfectly and manufactured from best-inclass materials, Coverstar is the best protection available for your family and your pool investment! Fences and other devices can provide some degree of safety, but none will provide the level of safety or peace of mind that the ECLIPSE safety cover system gives. In less than a minute the ECLIPSE “horizontal fence" easily covers your pool to create a barrier for complete peace of mind. www.royalpoolsandmore.com

Pg. 30

Automatic Safety Cover

Savings A COVERSTAR cover can save you money in several ways. Unlike solar covers, automatic covers can be closed in a matter of seconds, allowing your pool to be completely sealed when not in use. This prevents evaporation, the number one contributor to heat-loss. Stopping evaporation also saves you money on water and costly chemicals.

The pool cover that's so "Green" it's FREE.* Because an automatic safety cover is so easy to use, your pool can always be covered when it's not in use. That means you save big money on heating, electricity, water and pool chemicals. In fact, your cover can completely pay for itself in just a few years. You can save more money than the cover actually costs! That means you gain the benefits of a safer and cleaner pool - for FREE.

Water Conservation Water is a precious resource. Due to climate change, water is becoming more of an issue in many parts of the country. Because a COVERSTAR automatic cover is on the pool most of the time, you will save up to 90% of the water used by a typical pool without a cover.

Less Pool Chemicals A COVERSTAR System can help save up to 70% of the pool chemicals you would use if the pool was uncovered. The energy saved in producing, packaging and transporting them is a real benefit to the environment.

Conserving Power & Reducing Pollution Because the pool is kept much cleaner when an automatic cover is used, the pool pump and filter can be reduced dramatically, down to just a few hours a day. That saves energy which in turn, reduces pollution.

Conserving Natural Gas When pool water evaporates, it takes heat with it. Because a COVERSTAR system prevents most evaporation, heating requirements are much less. That saves natural gas which can be used for more essential uses. *Based on energy savings calculations by the U.S. Department of Energy – RESEC Program

Convenience When you want to swim in your pool, you don't want spend the time and effort to unfasten and drag a heavy cover off the pool. With a COVERSTAR system you just flip a switch and clean refreshing water awaits you. Just dive in - the water's great! Anytime is a Good Time to Swim With manual cover systems, you may have to wait for someone else to help you wrestle a cover off and then back onto the pool. With a COVERSTAR system you can use your pool anytime.

Pool Enjoyment in Less Than a Minute It takes less than a minute to open or close a COVERSTAR cover system. Because it takes so little time to open or cover the pool, you'll use it often. Isn't that why you're buying a pool in the first place?

Maximum Convenience- Minimal Effort When you return home from a hard day's work, you want to relax and unwind in a clean warm pool, not hassle with a pool cover. A COVERSTAR cover system makes it possible.

Less Work Seals Out Dirt, Leaves and Bugs Unfortunately, an open pool is a magnet for whatever is in the air - leaves, dirt, bugs, you name it. If it's in the air, it can end up in your pool. Unless of course you have a COVERSTAR automatic pool cover.

A Cleaner Pool Means Less Work Like a lid on a jar, the cover keeps out most of the bad stuff that can make pool ownership less than enjoyable.

Less Time Spent on Chemicals Because the pool is typically covered except when in use, the evaporation of water and pool chemicals is dramatically reduced. That means you need to replace pool chemicals much less often.

More Fun An Extended Swimming Season No matter where you live, an automatic cover can substantially increase the length of the natural swimming season. Pool water loses heat as it evaporates. A COVERSTAR cover stops most evaporation and acts as a passive solar heat collector. In some locations, an extra three months of swimmable temperatures can be expected. More of a natural swimming season means more fun for you and your family.

Vacation in Your Own Back Yard It's a delight to have a place in your own back yard where your family can gather to create memories that will last a lifetime. Why travel on expensive vacations when you can have more fun in your own backyard!

Worry-free, Hassle-free Pool Ownership Because the cost of owning and maintaining a pool are reduced dramatically with a COVERSTAR safety cover system, the joy of owning a pool won't fade over time. A pool without a cover can be an expensive and time consuming distraction. You can enjoy the benefits of worry-free, hassle-free pool ownership.

Features So many reasons why a Coverstar cover is your safest choice The stronger the cover, the safer the cover. No company builds in more exclusive design and manufacturing features to ensure the strength and performance of its automatic covers than Coverstar! Heat-sealed webbing for double the strength! Most automatic cover manufacturers sew webbing material wrapped around rope to the cover. With this method, the webbing often fails before the fabric does. Coverstar uses an exclusive, patented process to heat seal webbing around a polymer bead and weld it to the cover in one step. Independent lab tests show Coverstar's webbing is over twice as strong as competitors webbing! Mechanism engineered for unmatched reliability Our unique mechanism is engineered with heavy-duty components and with ropes and pulleys that are stronger and larger than any others used in the industry. The extreme precision of the machined and laser-cut parts allows for smooth operation and many, many years of hassle-free use.  Coverstar motors are completely sealed, using a proprietary method, to prevent water damage. Other less reliable means of water protection could mean an expensive motor repair.

PowerFlex™ Ropes act like a shock absorber and self-adjust during operation for more reliable performance. The only ropes that come with a two-year no-break guarantee!

Incredibly strong and durable fabric – advanced vinyl formulation and superior fabrication methods make it top of the line.

Concrete It takes a lot of work to install an in-ground swimming pool. From the excavation to filling the pool with water. All of the steps of construction are very important, making sure the pool is level to making sure it does not leak water and so forth. The one step that is overlooked by many pool installers and even pool owners is, the proper installation of concrete. Royal Pools and More feel that it is the perfect concrete that can make a pool go from average to just unbelievable! As we thought back on how to perfect a swimming pool, we asked ourselves. What really makes a swimming pool truly magnificent? The thoughts that we had all held great value, such as proper plumbing, perfectly square and level pool, or a perfectly installed liner. But we wanted to take it to the next level in the installation process. Considering the fact that most of the very important jobs are hidden underneath the concrete. So we make it a point to let our customers know that we have the best concrete work in the industry. So whether it be standard concrete, colored concrete or stamped concrete, we take pride in how our finished product looks. We dint want it to be passed up, we want it to be noticed. We want to give you the most unbelievable backyard, because its not just the swimming pool that counts with us, it the whole backyard experience! Within our (standard package) every swimming pool has a four foot perimeter of concrete. Most of our customers do extend the amount of concrete according to their backyard plans or for the pools features. Please feel free to ask our sales team for there advice on how to properly position additional concrete. Certain backyard furniture such as full length tanning chairs require a minimum amount of concrete, and our team is there to answer those questions. Ask to see current color brochure. Colors may change without notice.

What Pool Is Right For You? There are three types of in-ground pools: fiberglass, vinyl liner, and concrete (also called gunite). Below is a detailed comparison of these three pool types including the pros and cons of each. Okay, let's dive in. First, let's look at the following comparison chart that outlines specific pros and cons for each type of pool on a scale from one to five (green is good):

Fiberglass Advantages: Low Maintenance Why are fiberglass pools so easy to maintain? It all has to do with surface porosity. The surface of a fiberglass pool, called the gelcoat or hydrastone finish, is virtually non-porous. In contrast, the surface of a concrete pool is extremely rough and porous. These rough cavities and pores give algae a place to hide and call home, making pool ownership much more difficult. Concrete pool builders teach their clients that weekly brushing of the entire pool surface is mandatory to keep algae at bay. In addition, chemical usage in concrete pools is much higher because of the need to penetrate the pool surface to kill algae. Concrete pools also require daily doses of muriatic acid to lower the pH of the water. This is because concrete is alkaline based and constantly increases the pH of pool water. Fiberglass pools, on the other hand, are inert and do not effect water chemistry in any way. For these reasons, fiberglass pool owners typically spend 75% less time and money maintaining their pools. This means anyone who owns a fiberglass pool will spend more time in the pool and less time maintaining it.

www.royalpoolsandmore.com

Pg. 59

What Pool Is Right For You? Durability Because fiberglass pools have no liner, there's no need to concern yourself with puncturing the pool surface. Vinyl liners are not cheap....often upwards of $3-$6k to replace. This can happen from dogs getting in the pool, tree branches, patio furniture blown into the pool, etc. Fiberglass pools are incredibly strong and durable so there's no need to be concerned about damaging the pool during daily use.

Attractive Look Over the past 30 years fiberglass pools have transformed from the typical white bathtub you'd find at a rental beach house, to the elegant designs and aesthetic features that are now as much works of art as pool. This is due to advancements in the industry such as beautiful colored finishes, ceramic tile, tanning ledges, water features, stunning pool lights, elevated spas, poolside walls, etc. This is one of the many reasons why fiberglass pools have gained exponential market share over the past decade.

Compatibility with Salt Systems Salt chlorinators have proven to be a low maintenance, high water quality option for pool owners. However, if you have ever seen what de-icing salt does to the surface of a sidewalk you can guess what it does to the surface of a concrete pool. In our opinion this makes the combination of salt systems and concrete pools unfavorable. Vinyl liners may have issues with salt due to the steel walls , but this will only be a problem if the pool is leaking from a liner tear. In comparison, fiberglass pools and salt systems go together like peanut butter and jelly. With no adverse effect on the fiberglass shell, you can enjoy the low maintenance benefits of salt with confidence that your pool is not compromised.

Low Lifetime Cost of Ownership Check out the following chart to compare what the average pool owner would spend over a 10 year period with each type of pool:

************All numbers are close estimates and due not reflect 100% accuracy. We do believe they are as accurate as possible. All numbers are based off of a 20k gallon pool

www.royalpoolsandmore.com

Pg. 60

What Pool Is Right For You? Fiberglass Disadvantages: Initial Cost Higher than Vinyl Liners As you can see from the chart , even though the initial cost of fiberglass is a bit more than a vinyl liner, you spend far less in the long run when factoring in the cost of liner replacements every 5 to 9 years. Shapes and Sizes not Customizable The one major disadvantage of fiberglass pools is that you can't change the shape, size, or depth of the pool. So the question then becomes, can you find a fiberglass pool model that you're happy with? People do find a fiberglass pool that meets their needs. However, if you need a pool that's 10' deep, or an ultra customized shape, fiberglass probably isn't the best fit for you.

Concrete Pool Advantages: Customizable Size and Shape As you noticed in the first chart, concrete pools give you the ability to customize the shape of the pool...this is far and away their greatest virtue. This is perfect for those wanting an extremely deep or large pool, or a pool with custom tanning ledges (which are also available in fiberglass) or other custom features. Durable Concrete pools are also very durable. Just like fiberglass, there is no concern with dogs swimming in the pool or fear of damage to the pool interior from sharp objects like with vinyl liner pools.

Concrete Pool Disadvantages: Unfortunately, the flexibility concrete allows from a design perspective comes with a price. More Hands-on Maintenance In it's very nature concrete is extremely porous. This gives algae a place to call home. Once embedded into the surface of a concrete pool, algae is extremely tough to remove. In fact, concrete pool builders recommend brushing the entire surface of the pool with a brush at least once a week to remove any algae that is on the surface. More Chemical Usage Water chemistry is another issue with concrete pools. Because the algae embeds into the surface, more chemicals are required to reach and destroy it. This requires more time and money to maintain the pool. Also, concrete is alkaline based which constantly increases the pH of the pool water requiring the regular addition of acid to keep it in balance.

What Pool Is Right For You? Vinyl Liner Advantages Low Initial Cost Vinyl liner pools are more affordable to install...usually at least $10,000 less than fiberglass or concrete pools. This, their most appealing attribute, allows many families to enjoy the benefits of an in-ground pool that couldn't otherwise fit it into their budget. Customizable Shape Despite the fact that the vast majority of vinyl liner pools are rectangular, it is possible to customize the shape, size, and depth of the pool. Custom shapes do cost more, but still typically less than fiberglass or concrete pools. Multiple Liner Options After you choose the shape of your pool, you get to choose from a wide variety of liner options and tile pattern options, giving the most possible interior options for any pool in the industry free of charge! With fiberglass and concrete pools tile and color options are always an up charge unless the company is running in house sales. Customizable Floor Vinyl liner pools can be designed with any bottom floor that you can imagine, due to the fact that the floor is shaped with an excavator and finished with vermiculite. This is not always free of charge but it is a realistic option.

Vinyl Liner Disadvantages Liner Replacements The biggest disadvantage of vinyl liner pools is the cost and frequency of replacing the liner. Today's vinyl liners will typically last between five and nine years at an average cost of around $4,000 to replace when factoring in the cost of the liner, labor, water to fill the pool, and other minor expenses that tend to come up. This means the low initial cost of the pool could be off-set within the first ten years after construction....and over the entire lifetime of the pool, it will cost many thousands more than a fiberglass pool in the long run.

Liner Warranty Not Straight Forward Another point of discussion is the liner warranty, which is typically stated as twenty years or so. We would encourage anyone expecting to receive any credit on a liner replacement to read the warranty in full. You'll probably find the following information: 1. The warranty only covers the "seams" of the liner, where the sections of material are fused together 2. The warranty may not cover any labor, water, or other expenses. 3. The warranty is extremely pro-rated. You'll most likely get some credit toward a new liner during the first two or three years, but next to nothing after that.

What Pool Is Right For You? Parts of Vinyl Liner Pools Do Harbor Algae Growth Even though the surface of a vinyl liner pool is relatively non-porous, parts of the pool like where the white plastic steps attach to the pool wall, and behind light niches have submerged areas that do not have circulated water. Consequently, algae grows in those areas and spawns new algae growth.
