Purpose and Activities The mission of the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation is to promote health equity and improve the health outcomes of populations disproportionately affected by serious diseases and health conditions. The Foundation's Mental Health & Well-Being initiative in the U.S. focuses funding on addressing the mental health and reintegration needs of returning military service members, veterans and their families. The foundation supports programs designed to narrow the difference in care and outcomes experienced by countries in central and eastern Europe. Special emphasis is directed toward programs designed to improve cancer nursing skills and knowledge among oncology and general practice nurses; and community education and support services that remove barriers to care and support patients as they manage their disease at home and in the community. Employee Giving Program The foundation matches contributions made by employees of Bristol-Myers Squibb to the United Way, educational institutions, nonprofit organizations, and organizations involved with combating specific global health disparities. Employee Volunteer Award Program The foundation awards grants to nonprofit organizations with which employees of Bristol-Myers Squibb volunteer. Hepatitis in Asia - Delivering Hope The foundation supports programs designed to raise awareness and promote prevention and care related to hepatitis B and C in China, Japan, India, and Taiwan. Special emphasis is directed toward capacity building for healthcare professionals and lay health workers; disease education and awareness; and best practices in the prevention and management of hepatitis B and C to inform public health policy. HIV/AIDS in Africa - Secure the Future The foundation supports programs designed to develop and replicate innovative and sustainable solutions for vulnerable populations, including women and children who are infected and affected by HIV/AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa. The foundation also operates the Technical Assistance and Skills Transfer Programme (TAP) designed to empower communities to harness resources and capacity to improve the effectiveness and sustainability of community-based HIV/AIDS programs. Special emphasis is directed toward expanding Secure the Future technical assistance and skills transfer into Africa; improving diagnosis, support, education, and treatment for people co-infected with HIV and tuberculosis; and pharmacist-based HIV/AIDS services. Mental Health & Well-Being in the U.S. The foundation supports programs designed to reduce mental health disparities through healthcare capacity building and support services for patients at the community level. Special emphasis is directed toward programs designed to address the mental health and re-integration needs of service members, veterans, and military families. Together on Diabetes The foundation supports programs designed to improve health outcomes of people living with type 2 diabetes in China, India, and the United States. Special emphasis is directed toward programs designed to help adults living with type 2 diabetes selfmanage the disease and navigate care; build and coordinate medical, non-medical, and policy efforts at the community level and empower the individuals and organizations involved with bringing education, reach, and influence to the fight against type 2 diabetes; and promote new ideas about diabetes control efforts given the current and future scale of the epidemic and the duration of the disease experience. The foundation awards grants to non-governmental organizations and academic institutions working at the community level and partnerships are encouraged.
