President’s Corner

November 2016

I have bought a lot of things over the years with gold I have found. Three cars, which I am sure are scrap metal by now. One was an International Scout I gave 4.5 ounces for. He was asking 2500.00 and gold was at 600.00 an ounce. I offered him 4 ounces he was fine with that, all were big nuggets. His wife wanted more, so I gave him an additional .5 ounce. I told him to hold onto the gold as I thought the value would be going up…Should listen to myself a little more. He would have more than tripled his money if he had. I bought 2- 50 inch tv's for the bedrooms for 5000.00 paid for with gold I found. Now the tv's have a value of 400.00 and I am being generous. So if you ask me about buying things by selling your gold, I’ll say, figure what’s the value of what you’re buying in 5 yrs and compare that to what gold will be selling for. I give good advice, just a little hard of hearing.. HaHa Gold is precious, will not tarnish, corrode, or lose its luster. I have found gold on the beach lost 100 years ago which looked like it was made yesterday. If at all possible hang on to what you have, it will last all other will fade. Cyndy’s Meeting Notes Henrietta Markley opened the meeting by leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Then Mike recognized all first time visitors by asking them to introduce themselves. Since Robert Jordan was home with a bad cold, Mike had Cyndy Burchard talked about the upcoming Bear River outing. Details like when we could go in, that it was for members only and to make sure your dues were up to date, and the fact that it could and almost did rain all weekend. And that we were to be out of the campground by 10:00am on Monday the 31st. Then Cyndy had Gary Shaver to tell everyone what he had seen as far as water levels at the river over the past few days. After that Cyndy mentioned that we have no meeting in November, due to the Veteran’s Day holiday landing on our meeting day. The Veterans wanted to use the building that night. Also Saturday the 29th was the Mining Districts were to meet in Foresthill for the Foresthill Divide and surrounding area Mining Districts. There were 49 Districts listed on the notice with 3-4 more added. Chris Giorgi explained what the meeting was for. Mike then began talking about panning and sluicing on the Bear River. Since that is where we were to have our October outing. He then had Chris Miller come to the front and talk about working the dry river bed, and the old quarry on the Nevada County side of the Bear River, along with other areas along the river. Chris said he usually works about 3 hours a day on the river. And usually finds ¾ of a gram to ¼ of a gram each time. The gold is small, but it’s gold. Mike also asked that we bring to meetings any equipment that we no longer use and would like to sell or trade. He would like to start this at the January 13, 2017 meeting. December will be a busy month, with our Ugly Sweater contest, potluck, and other activities. Then Mike started talking about coils for the detectors. And the one he found a 2 oz. nugget with. And how interesting it is that everyone thinks the coil someone found a large nugget with, is the one to get. But that isn’t necessarily so. It was just that someone got lucky that day. Then he explained how coils work including coil types, depth, Double D coils and round coils. How big coils work because of a big area and a smaller coil within it. He says technically, don’t get too caught up on a bunch of different coils. Mike says he likes to hear what the ground is doing, so he goes slow so the machine has a chance to work on the ground itself. Why is bedrock so important? At places like Liberty Hill, there are places of true bedrock with cracks and crevices that still can have gold in them. But if you find the big boulders, remember that the miners have dug around them too. But don’t discount checking there, on both sides of it. It got there once before, it could again. True bedrock is where you will find the gold for sure. When you go to look at an area, think in terms of millions of years ago, not 100’s or 1000’s, and how things could’ve changed for the gold to get to where you would find it.

3

At some time or another, we all use the discriminator on our machines. And it doesn’t always sound the same for every nugget. Depending on the ground, the shape and size of the nugget, plus combinations of other minerals that you find together with it will make a difference too. Mike says, keep in mind that gold could be found just about anywhere that might you think has already been worked out. You just need to look at the area a little differently sometimes. Then we took a break and had our drawing. Boy was that a fun one too! See you next month!

Cyndy PS; Since we have no November meeting our newsletter for next month will be mostly on our October outing at Bear River, the Christmas potluck information, and other information. Please send Sherry Andersen any photos you may have from the outing to be published in the newsletter to [email protected]

ICMJ’s PROSPECTING AND MINING JOURNAL - Scott Harn, Editor, and his team works hard to get this monthly mining magazine on line & in the mail. Check them out. www.icmj.com - [email protected] -831-479-1500. ICMJ offers current news on the dredging regulations, PLP, Miner’s Alliance, and are the best online source of recent gold news. You can search for great “how-to” and “where-to” articles on dredging, metal detecting, mining operations, assaying, legislative updates, geology, history, metals prices and financial news.

Public Lands for the People Latest News Dear PLP Members and the Mining Community, It has been a long time since there was any movement in the consolidated California dredging cases PLP first brought against the state in 2009. Since then other cases and other litigants (like the New '49ers and WMA), have joined us in the fight which the court system combined into the consolidated cases. Yesterday, Nov. 14th, Judge Ochoa held a hearing to decide the next steps in the cases since the CA Supreme Court ruled against Brandon Rinehart (and all of us!), this past summer, reversing decades of law in a single very bad decision. Even though the U.S. Supreme Court is being petitioned on Brandon's behalf by Pacific Legal Foundation, Judge Ochoa, who had previously put everything on hold until after Rinehart was decided, has moved off that position, and per our attorney James Buchal "indicated that he did not see any virtue in continuing delay, suggesting that it was unlikely that the United States Supreme Court would even take the case, and announced his intention to set a trial date. This greatly discomfited the State, whose lawyers began to raise all sorts of objections...and the Judge agreed with me, ultimately setting a trial date of November 13, 2017.” And now hearing the remaining cases separately, the CEQA hearing will be heard on April 21, 2017. The State has requested an opportunity to brief the impact of the California Supreme Court’s decision on the Judge’s prior decision (they want him to revise it, as he suggested he might, and this doesn't bode well for the miners), and to address the federal supremacy issue as it relates to CEQA , etc. All briefs are due 45 days before the April hearing. We have our work cut out for us; and we appreciate all of you who have stood with us in this fight over the many years since we filed the first dredging lawsuit against the state of California in 2009. We keep on fighting the fight in hopes that the courts will recognize that the miners have certain rights that have been stomped on and what's more, we are not giving up and going away. It's the right thing to do. We will keep you updated as progress is made. Another "thank you" is in order to our membership! PLP’s proposal to update and amend its bylaws have been overwhelmingly approved by you. With quorum

attained, as of October 16, 2016 the Corporation has placed these bylaws into effect as the new document that is fully compliant with California State law. With your help we will continue our fight against the State of California concerning the dredge ban and supporting the mission of MMACUSA.ORG and the Mining Districts, as well as other Public Land rights issues. For Clarification: There are no Board Approved membership meetings at this time. www.publiclandsforthepeople.org is the only website for PLP. All updates will be posted there.
