Norton continues excellent punting

• Brett Norton has had arguably the best season of any Blue Hose player this season in his first campaign as PC’s punter. Norton is averaging 40.8 yards per punt this year, which would be a PC single-season record if the season ended today. • The sophomore has averaged at least 40 yards per punt in seven of the nine games this season with an average of 42 yards or better in five. • Additionally, Norton has had 21 punts downed inside the 20-yard line and 12 punts of 50+ yards, while 26 have resulted in a fair catch. His longest of the game, a 64-yarder, is tied for the second longest punt in the program’s D1 era. • Norton, punting in just his second game in college at the time, also had a school-record six punts downed inside in the 20-yard line and booted four of at least 50 yards against the Mocs.

Norton consistent kicker

• Brett Norton had his only attempt blocked against Liberty on Saturday. Norton is now 2-for-9 in his career at home. He had made each of his last two at home before the block. • The sophomore recorded the first make of his career at home against Monmouth on Oct. 13, connecting from 27 yards. • In the first game of the season, Norton established a career-long with a 36-yard make at Central Michigan. • Norton is a perfect 10-for-10 on the road in his career but is only 2-of-9 at home in two seasons.

Chuckin’ It

In fact, PC now has the top four games for pass attempts in Big South history. • PC also completed 34 passes against the Panthers, good for a tie for 7th place in league history. The record is 38 by PC at Gardner-Webb in 2008. • As a team, PC threw for 509 yards in back-toback games against Campbell and Florida Tech, its highest total in consecutive games since 2011 when PC amassed 516 yards in the final two games of the season against VMI and Charleston Southern. • Additionally, PC passers are 56-of-98 for 588 yards through the air in its last two home games. • Dashawn Davis recorded career highs in both receptions (12) and receiving yards (125) against Florida Tech on Sept. 24. • The 12 receptions tied the PC Division I record for catches, as Davis matched the mark set by Terrance Butler against App. State in 2008. • Additionally, it was the most receiving yards by a PC player since 2013 when Tobi Antigha had 136 against Coastal Carolina.

Brock excels in limited action

• Redshirt junior quarterback Will Brock made an immediate impact for the Blue Hose offense, averaging 154.0 passing yards per game in three games of action (two starts). • The lefty threw for 404 yards over in his last two games, his first two career starts for PC. That is the most passing yards by a PC player in consecutive games since 2013 when Heys McMath threw for 451 yards in back-to-back games against Charleston Southern (298) and Liberty (153). • Brock leads the Blue Hose in passing efficiency (113.6), passing yards per completion (10.7) and passing touchdowns (3). His 275 passing yards against FIT were the most by a Big South player in 2016 at the time.

Watson In Sync with Brock

• DarQuez Watson had a career game against Campbell on Sept. 17, hauling in five catches for a career-high 58 receiving yards, including his third

career touchdown on a 17-yard reception in the fourth quarter. • Watson then caught three passes for 33 yards against FIT with all three passes coming from Brock. • In Brock’s three games under center, he has found Watson nine times for 115 yards.

The redshirt junior also rushed eight times for 29 yards. • It was the first time that a PC quarterback has thrown two touchdowns passes in a game since 2014 when Heys McMath threw for three against Coastal Carolina. • Brock led PC to a victory in his first career start, the third straight PC quarterback to do so. Ben Cheek earned the start against Campbell last season in a 23-13 win. Heys McMath made his first career start in 2013 against VMI, a 49-35 victory for PC. Of the three, Brock is the only one to get the win on the road.

Road Warriors

• PC opened its season with three straight road games and will have played four of its first five on the road after Saturday’s meeting with Gardner-Webb. • The three-game road trip was PC’s first since 2011 when PC played three straight road games not once but twice in the same season. • It was also the first time since 2010 that PC opened the season with three straight road games. The 2010 season also marked the last time PC opened the year with four of its first five on the road. • The Blue Hose face a stretch of four of five games on the road for the first time since 2012 when they also did the same. PC went 1-4 during that stretch. • PC’s 31-14 win at Campbell on Sept. 17 was its first road win since 2014 when the Blue Hose topped this week’s opponent, Gardner-Webb, 14-7 in Boiling Springs, N.C.

The Blue Hose have played exactly three ranked FCS foes each of the last three seasons. • The Blue Hose hold a 2-7 mark against ranked foes since 2013 and are 3-16 overall against top 25 teams since 2007. • PC took down a pair of ranked opponents in 2014 with victories over No. 12 Furman (10-7) and No. 22 Charleston Southern (7-3). • Last season, two of PC’s three losses to ranked opponents came in one possession games. No. 1 Coastal Carolina held off a late PC drive for a 2417 victory. The following week No. 20 Charleston Southern scored a late touchdown to edge the Blue Hose 10-7. The third loss came at the hands of this week’s opponent, then No. 8 Chattanooga.

get on your level

• After opening the season on a Thursday night against an FBS opponent, PC returned to a more normal game week with a Saturday game against FCS opponent Chattanooga. • Over the past three seasons, PC has been outstanding against FCS teams following games against FBS opponents. In fact, since 2013, PC is now 5-1 in games against non-FBS opponents that were preceded by a game against an FBS opponent. • The Blue Hose defeated Brevard, 45-10, in 2013 after falling to Wake Forest the week prior. In 2014, PC defeated Bluefield, Western Carolina and Gardner-Webb after games at Northern Illinois, NC State and Ole Miss, respectively. • Last season, PC opened the year with backto-back FBS opponents but picked up a win over Campbell in week three.

Tough Slate for PC in 2016

• Presbyterian faces one of the toughest schedules at the FCS level this season, which features just four home games on the 11-game slate. PC has played nine of the 11 opponents previously and met eight of the 11 opponents last season. • The Blue Hose will take on FBS foes Central Michigan and Florida, both of which made bowl game appearances in 2015. • PC will also go head-to-head with three teams that made the FCS playoffs in 2015. The Blue Hose head to Charleston Southern and Chattanooga, before hosting Coastal Carolina as they transition to FBS level. • The Blue Hose head to both Campbell and Kennesaw State for the first time in each of the respec-

tive series histories. The Camels and Owls look to get revenge, as PC took both contests in Clinton last season. • PC faces Central Michigan and Florida Tech for the first time in the history of the program. The Blue Hose have won five straight games against nonFBS opponents in the first-ever meeting between the teams. They will look to continue that streak against the Panthers, while going for their first win against an FBS foe against Central Michigan.

He also added nine passes defended, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries, all career highs as well. • Bethel signed a three-year extension with the Cardinals on December 5, 2015 that will keep him

• HEAD COACH HAROLD NICHOLS • his offensive coordinator duties, Nichols also coached the quarterbacks and running backs. Nichols coached all-conference selection Shawn Pasternak, who totaled a school-record 72 catches for 1,083 yards and 12 touchdowns. His quarterbacks combined to pass for 158-258 (61 percent) and 2,063 yards for 20 touchdowns against just seven interceptions. Under Nichols, the offense amassed its highest points per game average since 2004, tallying 269 points for the season. The team was just three points shy of eighth place on the program’s all-time list. Nichols’ spread option attack resulted in Bucknell throwing for more than 2,000 yards for the first time since 2001. In the vaunted running attack, six different student-athletes registered at least 100 yards on the ground, totalling more than 1,600 rushing yards for the season. Prior to joining Bucknell, Nichols was the associate head coach and offensive coordinator at Rhode Island beginning in April 2000. He also coached the quarterbacks and running backs. In 2006 Coach Nichols earned the Michael Campbell Top Assistant Coach Award by the All-America Football Foundation. In 2005, Rhode Island ranked third in the nation in rushing and led the Atlantic 10 with 318.6 yards per game along with 31 touchdowns. It was the second-highest rushing total in school history. In 2000, the Rams rang up a then-school record 2,244 yards on the ground. In 2001 they piled up 2,565 yards for a 233.2 average, third highest in the Atlantic 10 and a new school record. The Rams topped that total by amassing 2,904 yards in 2002. In 2003, the Rams rambled for 4,005 yards on the ground, second most in the nation, while setting the Atlantic 10 record and yet another school rushing mark. The Rams rushed for 3,074 yards in 2004, second most in school annals. This past season, the Rhode Island finished second in the Atlantic 10 in rushing (192.0) while averaging 308.1 yards of offense. After graduating from Presbyterian College in 1989 with a degree in political science and a minor in physical education, Nichols began his coaching career on the Blue Hose sideline in 1990. As an assistant coach, he worked with the quarterbacks and running backs while serving dual roles as he was also the director of campus life for the team members. In July 1992, Nichols started his coaching tenure with Georgia Southern as the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. There, he worked with a variety of student-athletes including wide receivers, running backs, defensive ends, kickers and specialists. His responsibilities included assignment of coaches, being in charge of all visits (official and unofficial), evaluations and all NCAA compliance matters. He helped guide the team to the 1993 Southern Conference title and two Division I-AA playoff berths (1993, 1995). In each of those years, the team won its first-round game before falling to the eventual national champion (Youngstown State and Montana) and finished 10-3. In five years, Nichols helped the Eagles to a 33-15 mark. Nichols returned to PC in December of 1996 in the same role his had at Georgia Southern. In his return to PC, Nichols coached the wide receivers, kickers and specialists. He helped head coach Daryl Dickey take the Blue Hose from 5-6 in 1997 to 8-3 and 7-4 the next two seasons before taking the job at Rhode Island. He and his wife, Dee, have an older daughter, Cassie, and twins, Corey and Cameron. Cassie will be a student at PC this fall and join the softball program.

8th Season as Head Coach 14th Season at PC Overall Nichols begins his eighth season at the helm of the Blue Hose in 2016, one year removed from being named Big South CoCoach of the Year in 2014. Last season, the Blue Hose managed a 2-9 record with a number of close contests, as six games were decided by eight points or less. Despite the struggles, PC had five players named All-Big South, including four earning first-team honors. Darrell Bridges, Ed Britt, Stephen Doar and Donelle Williams each were named to the All-Big South first team, while Ugonna Akoh claimed a spot on the second team. In addition, Akoh was named a second team CoSIDA Academic All-American under the guidance of Nichols, the first such honor for a PC student-athlete in the program’s Division I era. Nichols led PC to a 6-5 record in 2014, the program’s first winning season since 2007 and its first-ever as a member of the Big South. He guided the Blue Hose to ranked wins over No. 12 Furman and No. 22 Charleston Southern and the team’s two road wins stand as the most since three in 2007. Against FCS competition, PC finished with a 5-2 record and its only two losses came to FCS playoff teams Coastal Carolina and Liberty. PC’s defense set new school Division I records in nearly every category, including total offense yards (4163), opponent points scored (270), opponent touchdowns (36) and opponent total offense per game (378.5 yards). Those records come in a season that saw the Blue Hose play three FBS teams and against FCS competition, PC allowed only 15.9 points and 310.0 total offense yards per game. The Blue Hose also picked up seven Big South weekly awards under Nichols. On January 14, 2009, Presbyterian College Athletics announced the hiring of Harold Nichols as the head football coach. Nichols, a 1989 alumnus of PC, came back to the Blue Hose family on January 14, 2009, from Bucknell. Nichols served as the offensive coordinator and assistant since January 2008. Under Nichols, PC finished the 2011 season with its most overall wins since 2008. Its three Big South wins were the most since joining the Conference. The Blue Hose closed out the season with back-to-back wins, its first two-game win streak since 2008. The Blue Hose went 4-1 at home in 2011 for their most wins at Bailey Memorial Stadium since a 4-2 mark in 2008. Justin Bethel, who became the Big South all-time leader in blocked kicks, as well as solo tackles, was the first person drafted by the NFL under Nichols’ watch. He went to the Arizona Cardinals in the sixth round. In 2010 Nichols led his team to its first Big South win with the 26-24 victory over Gardner Webb and posted an overall record of 2-9. Four players earned honors with Jared Trandon Dendy, Derek Brown, Justin Bethel and Patrick Morgan picking up Big South All-Conference selections. Jared Tavernier was named to the ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District team. Several were selected Players-of theWeek this past season, including Brian Davis, Patrick Morgano, Cam Miller, Jimmy Pruitt and Ryan Singer. In his first season, Nichols The Nichols File guided PC through its most difficult Division I schedule. PRESBYTERIAN 3 C. MICHIGAN

49

SEPT. 1, 2016 • KELLY/SHORTS STADIUM • MT. PLEASANT, MICH. The Presbyterian College football team trailed 14-3 at the halftime but Central Michigan proved too much for the Blue Hose, as the Chippewas pulled away in the second half for the 49-3 victory on Thursday night at Kelly/Shorts Stadium. Head Coach Harold Nichols’s Take “It was 14-3 at the half so we were in the ballgame. We had two turnovers that hurt us, including that pick six late. We finally got a drive going late in the first half and got the field goal but we just couldn’t get anything going in the second half. We had a lot of three-and-outs and you aren’t going to beat a good team like Central Michigan doing that so congrats to them. I think they will win their fair share of football games this season. We are just not where we need to be and need to make a lot of improvements from week one to week two.” Turning Point Central Michigan used a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter to pull away from the Blue Hose in what was a close ballgame throughout the first half. The Chippewas got a 12-yard touchdown run from Jahray Hayes midway through the quarter, before Cooper Rush found Corey Willis for a 46-yard touchdown on the following drive to make it 28-3 at the time. How It Happened Central Michigan opened the game with a 69-yard touchdown run by Devin Spalding on the second play of the game to take an early 7-0 lead. The Blue Hose would keep the Chippewas out of the endzone until midway through the second quarter when Jahray Hayes scored on a twoyard run to cap off a seven-play scoring drive to make it 14-0. PC was able to use a Grant Beidel interception late in the first half to convert to a Brett Norton 36-yard field goal to cut the lead to 14-3 at the half.

Offensive Leader Ben Cheek completed a career-high 10 passes on 22 attempts for 82 yards through the air. He also rushed 10 times for four yards to total 86 yards of total offense. Defensive Standout Jaylen Lindsay made his first career in tonight’s game and finished with a team-high nine tackles and his first career interception. He also added a sack and a tackle for loss in the loss. Offensive Highlights - Brett Norton made his first field goal of the season, a 36-yard attempt, to get PC on the board in the first half. The field goal was the longest of his career, surpassing the previous long of 34 yards from last season. - Cheek established a new career high for completions (10) and passing attempts (22) in his sixth career start at quarterback. - DaShawn Davis continued to be a versatile player, recording 92 all-purpose yards with 49 kickoff return yards, 28 receiving yards and 16 punt return yards. Defensive Notes - Grant Beidel and Jaylen Lindsay each recorded an interception in the game, the first of their respective careers. Lindsay also recorded the first sack of his career to go with a career-high nine tackles. Beidel finished with seven tackles in a solid effort. - Kamren Mack recorded a team-high 2.0 sacks as a part of his five tackles on the night. It was a single-game high for the senior defensive tackle. - The defense held the Chippewas to just 3-of-9 on third downs in tonight’s game. The Blue Hose also recorded a pair of interceptions and totaled four sacks.

Central Michigan tacked on 21 points to tip the score in a much more one-sided fashion than it actually was for much of the game. Hayes scored his third touchdown of the game on an eight-yard run early in the fourth quarter, before Amari Coleman returned an interception for a touchdown on the ensuing PC drive. The Chippewas capped it off with a 45-yard touchdown run by Jonathan Ward midway through the fourth quarter. PRESBYTERIAN 0 #6 CHATTANOOGA 34 SEPT. 10, 2016 • FINLEY STADIUM • CHATTANOOGA, TENN. The Presbyterian College football team fell to the sixthranked Chattanooga Mocs, 34-0, on Saturday afternoon at Finley Stadium in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Blue Hose fall to 0-2 with the loss, while the Mocs remain perfect at 2-0 on the short season. Head Coach Harold Nichols’s Take “Well we gave up too many big plays defensively. We got ourselves off the field on third down at times but we’re just not consistent enough. They had some really good plays and they have a really good football team. They’re not a top-10 team for nothing. They’re a good team in all three phases. It was disappointing that we weren’t able to string a drive together, especially early in the ballgame to give ourselves a chance. We had too many three and outs and too many mistakes. We weren’t very good on first downs so you get in to second-and-long and third-and-long calls and it just goes downhill from there trying to convert first down opportunities. We just didn’t get it done. The credit goes to Chattanooga. They were a really good football team, but we have to play better than that or we’re going to have a hard time winning no matter who we’re playing.” Turning Point The Mocs scored 13 points in the second quarter to go in to the locker room at halftime with a 20-0 lead. Alejandro Bennifield found Xavier Borishade for 65 yards on the first play of the quarter to give the Mocs a 14-0 lead at the time. Two drives later, Chattanooga needed just four plays to find the endzone, as Bennifield found Borishade again for 35 yards through the air to make it a 20-0 lead at the half, after a missed extra point attempt. How It Happened The two teams felt each other out for much of the early going until Chattanooga got on the board late in the first quarter. UTC quarterback Bennifield found James Stovall for a 46-yard touchdown to give the Mocs a 7-0 lead. The Mocs then scored twice in the second quarter to push the lead to 20-0 at the half. In the second half, the Mocs got two more touchdowns in the third quarter. UTC scored on its second play of the half, as Bennifield scored from nine yards out to make it a 27-0 game. Two drives later, the Mocs recorded another two-play drive with Bennfield finding Borishade for a third time, this time for 68 yards, to make it a 34-0 ballgame. The Blue Hose put together their best drive of the game in the fourth quarter, going 79 yards on 13 plays but a fumble at the two-yard line was picked up by Chattanooga and derailed PC’s best scoring chance.

Stat of the Game The Presbyterian defense held the Chattanooga offense without a third-down conversion in the contest. The Mocs were 0-for-9 on third downs against the Blue Hose. PC has now held its opponents to 3-of-18 (.167) on third downs through two contests. Offensive Leader Darrell Bridges rushed for 89 yards on 18 carries, an average of 4.9 yards per carry, playing back in his hometown for the first time since high school. The redshirt junior also caught two passes for 10 yards and returned three kickoffs for 66 yards for a total of 165 all-purpose yards. In two games against Chattanooga, Bridges has totaled 176 rushing yards on 30 carries. Defensive Standout Khari Rosier put together a strong game at defensive end, totaling a career-high eight tackles with 1.5 sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss. The senior now has 8.0 career sacks and 18.5 tackles for loss in his career, most among all current Blue Hose players. Offensive Highlights - Zola Davis, Kyle Goddard and Damien McGhee each recorded their first career receptions in today’s game. Davis had an 18-yard reception, the fourth longest PC play of the season, while Goddard had a 15-yard reception in the fourth quarter in one of his two catches on the day. - Will Brock made his first career appearance at quarterback for the Blue Hose, going 4-for-6 passing for a team-high 58 yards in two series of action. - PC had seven different players catch a pass in the ballgame, its most since the Blue Hose also had seven players catch a pass against Western Carolina last season. Defensive Notes - Brett Norton recorded a career-long 64-yard punt in the opening half of today’s game. It is tied for the second longest punt in PC’s Division I history. Norton finished the game with 12 punts for a Division I era school record 526 yards in the game, an average of 43.8 yards per punt. The sophomore had six punts downed inside in the 20-yard line, also a Division I era school record. - The PC defense recorded 3.0 sacks in today’s game for a total of 27 yards. Through two games, PC has 7.0 sacks and entered this week in the top 10 in the country in that category.

PRESBYTERIAN 31 CAMPBELL 14 SEPT. 17, 2016 • BARKER-LANE STADIUM • BUIES CREEK, N.C. The Presbyterian College football team used 24 first-half points to top Campbell, 31-14, on Saturday night at Barker-Lane Stadium in Buies Creek, N.C. The Blue Hose earn their first win of the year, going to 1-2 overall, while Campbell suffers its first loss to go to 2-1 on the season. Head Coach Harold Nichols’s Take “We took that opening drive and scored a touchdown and that’s big when you are able to do that. You are able to establish an identity early. That’s a really good football team that we played tonight. Going in to it, our focus was on getting first downs and consistency on offense and I was really pleased to see the guys make some plays on offense. Not only that but make some plays on third down and extend some drives. I thought we were a little better on first and second downs, which certainly helps you on third down, and we were consistent throughout the game. We had a little lull there in the third quarter but the defense came out and made some plays. Then we were able to get a drive going and pop Darrell (Bridges) on a long run there and make it a three-score game. It’s good to be able to go on the road and get a win like this” On the performance of quarterback Will Brock “I was really proud of Will Brock tonight. He came in at the end of the game against Chattanooga last week and played well. He’s a really accurate passer and has grinded through the program and done a great job. He has a great personality, all of his teammates like him and they kind of rallied around him tonight and made some plays for him. I’m really happy for him to come out and have this experience and play well.” Turning Point Presbyterian used a pair of second quarter touchdowns to extend its lead to the halftime margin of 24-6 to give itself a healthy cushion heading in to the second half of action. Darrell Bridges got the first one with a six-yard TD run to make it 17-0 at the time. Will Brock then followed later on in the quarter with a one-yard score on the ground to give PC its 18-point first half lead. How It Happened PC got it going early in the game, putting together a 13play, 69-yard drive on its opening possession, capped off by a 21-yard touchdown pass from Will Brock to Cedric Frazier. The Blue Hose would score again on its next possession, this time on a 26-yard field goal by Brett Norton to push the lead to 10-0 through one quarter. PC made it a 17-0 lead early in the second quarter, as Darrell Bridges scored his first touchdown of the season from six yards out. Campbell answered with a five-play, 73-yard drive that resulted in a 23-yard touchdown from Elijah Burress to Jared Joyner but the PAT was no good to make a 17-6 game. The Blue Hose responded with one more score before the break, as Brock rushed for a one-yard touchdown to push the margin to 18 points at the half with a score of 24-6. Campbell was able to cut in to the lead early in the fourth quarter, as DeShawn Jones capped off a 14-play, 76-yard drive by the Camels that elapsed over 6:00 off the clock with a one-yard run to make it 24-14 after a two-point conversion. FLORIDA TECH

PRESBYTERIAN 7 SEPT. 24, 2016 • BAILEY MEMORIAL STADIUM • CLINTON, S.C. The Presbyterian College football team fell to Florida Tech, 28-7, on Saturday night at Bailey Memorial Stadium in the home opener for the Blue Hose. The Panthers remain perfect on the season at 4-0, while PC drops to 1-3 before opening conference play in two weeks. Head Coach Harold Nichols’s Take “Turnovers played a part in tonight’s outcome, for sure. Going into this game, I knew that Florida Tech was a quality opponent and a well-coached football team with a lot of good players and our margin of error was going to be small. We went one-for-five in the red zone and that hurt us. You have to come away with points there. We missed a field goal and the pick six was a big turning point. We gave up some big plays on defense, especially on third down, which is something we haven’t really done a lot of. We didn’t do that last week. All the credit goes to Florida Tech. They’re a really good football team and they deserved to win the football game.” Turning Point With PC driving early in the fourth quarter, Florida Tech’s Jo Jackson intercepted a pass and returned it 83 yards for a touchdown to make it a 28-7 game, after the PAT. It was Jackson’s second interception in the game and provided the knock out blow for FIT. How It Happened Florida Tech found the endzone on its opening drive of the game with a nine-play, 86-yard drive to take a 7-0 lead on a one-yard touchdown run by Trevor Sand. The Panthers added to the lead at the end of the second quarter on a 39-yard pass from Mark Cato to Antwuan Haynes to give FIT a 14-0 halftime advantage. The Panthers added a score early in the third quarter, as Kenny Johnson hauled in a pass from Cato for 82 yards and the score to push the advantage to 21-0. PC would respond with an eight-play, 86-yard drive capped off by a 10-yard touchdown from Will Brock to DarQuez Watson to cut the lead to 21-7. Jackson’s interception later in the quarter squashed a potential Blue Hose drive and put the game out of reach.

Offensive Leader Dashawn Davis totaled 12 receptions for 129 receiving yards, both career highs, to lead the PC offense on the night. Davis tied the PC Division I record for receptions in a game with the 12, matching the mark set by Terrance Butler against Appalachian State in 2008. He is also the first player with at least 100 receiving yards since Tobi Antigha had 136 receiving yards against Coastal Carolina in 2013. Additionally, he had a 33-yard reception in the game, the longest of his career. The second-year starter added 81 kickoff return yards for 201 all-purpose yards. Defensive Standout Kenneth Coleman recorded the first interception of his career in the first half of tonight’s game. Coleman added three tackles, including a tackle for loss, and a pass breakup to go with the INT that led to a PC field goal attempt. Offensive Highlights - Will Brock, making his second straight start at QB, completed 28-of-52 passes for a career-high 275 yards and a touchdown. That is the most passing yards by a PC quarterback since Heys McMath threw for 322 yards against VMI in 2013. - Darrell Bridges caught a career-high seven passes for 43 yards, also a career high. Bridges also rushed 16 times for 67 yards for a total of 123 all-purpose yards. - Cedric Frazier caught three passes for 42 yards, both career highs in his third game as a Blue Hose. - John Walker saw his first career action at quarterback and completed 6-of-11 passes for 55 yards. He was the second PC QB to make his first career appearance this season. Defensive Notes - Obinna Ntiasagwe led the PC squad with six tackles on the night. - Kamren Mack totaled 2.0 tackles for loss in the contest to push his season total to 5.0 to lead the team. He finished second on the team with five total tackles in the game. - Robert Baker recorded the first interception of his career in tonight’s game, along with Coleman. Baker also managed five tackles on the night.

Stat of the Game Presbyterian threw for 330 yards as a team in tonight’s game, its most since October 18, 2008 when the Blue Hose threw for 382 against Gardner-Webb. PC also attempt 63 passes in the game, its most as a team in the program’s Division I era.

PRESBYTERIAN 3 GARDNER-WEBB 24 OCT. 8, 2016 • SPANGLER STADIUM • BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. The Presbyterian College football team dropped its conference opener at Gardner-Webb, 24-3, on Saturday night at Spangler Stadium in Boiling Springs, N.C. The Blue Hose drop to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in Big South play, while Gardner-Webb improves to 3-3 overall, 1-0 in the Big South. Head Coach Harold Nichols’s Take “I thought in the first half penalties took us out of some opportunities early. We had some drives going but weren’t able to get any points out of them. We kicked a field goal there right before half and I thought that would be a big play in the game. It put us down 10-3 and I thought it would give us a chance going in to the third quarter. We did some good things in the third quarter but we just kept shooting ourselves in the foot and had some plays that we left out there. Defensively, I thought we hemmed them up at times but again struggled with the big plays. We are frustrated and disappointed and we have to get it figured out. I think we are better than that but Gardner-Webb is a good team and a lot credit goes to them.” Turning Point The second half turned the tide in Gardner-Webb’s favor, as the Runnin’ Bulldogs outscored PC, 14-0, in the half and outgained the Blue Hose, 250-79, to claim the victory. Touchdowns from Tyrell Maxwell and Khalil Lewis came late in the third and fourth quarters, respectively, to put the game away for GWU. How It Happened Gardner-Webb scored on its opening play of the game, as Tyrell Maxwell found Kyle Horton for 74 yards for the touchdown to give the Runnin’ Bulldogs the early 7-0 lead. He hauled in his longest reception of the season, a 31-yarder in the third quarter, which is the third longest offensive play by the Blue Hose this season. - Darquez Watson continued his strong play at wideout, catching three balls for 39 receiving yards on the night. He has at least three receptions in each of his last three games played, the only PC receiver to do just that. - Brett Norton made his only field goal attempt of the night, a 24-yarder, for his third make of the season. He is now 3-of-4 on the year and 9-of-14 for his career, including a flawless 9-of-9 on the road. Defensive Notes - Brett Norton continued his strong play as a punter, booting it eight times for 338 yards, an average of 42.2 yards per punt. MONMOUTH 13 PRESBYTERIAN 17 OCT. 13, 2016 • BAILEY MEMORIAL STADIUM • CLINTON, S.C. The Presbyterian College football team earned its first Big South victory of the season on Thursday night, topping Monmouth, 17-13, as Kenneth Coleman broke up a Kenji Bahar pass on fourth down with under a minute remaining. PC improves to 2-4, 1-1 Big South, while Monmouth falls to 4-3, 1-1 in the Big South. Head Coach Harold Nichols’s Take “I’m really proud of our players. We’ve come off of some disappointing losses. For these guys to come back in a short week after a tough loss at Gardner-Webb and show the kind of character they showed out here on the field really says a lot about our team. We battled injuries and really played with that “next man up” mentality that we’ve had all year. It sounds like “coach speak”, but it’s true. The thing I like about this team is their belief in one another and their love for one another and those things show on the field.” “We’ve had positive energy all week. We had one of our best practices of the year on Tuesday. All of that says a lot about the character of our team. I’m proud to be their coach. This is a really good win for us against a good Monmouth team. They’ve beaten some good teams on the road and at home. They’re a tough team to play against. Our ability to get this win tonight was really big for our football team.” Turning Point Daryl Wilson hauled in a 44-yard touchdown reception from John Walker to take a 17-13 with 12:45 remaining in the game. PC then stopped Monmouth on fourth and nine from the 12-yard line with under a minute remaining, as Kenneth Coleman broke up a would-be touchdown pass to clinch the victory for the Blue Hose. PRESBYTERIAN 3 CHARLESTON SO.

OCT. 22, 2016 • BUCCANEER FIELD • CHARLESTON, S.C. The Presbyterian College football team fell to ninthranked Charleston Southern, 38-3, on Saturday night at Buccaneer Field in Charleston, S.C. The Blue Hose drop to 2-5, 1-2 in the Big South, while the defending Big South Champion improves to 4-2, 2-0 in Big South play. Head Coach Harold Nichols’s Take “Charleston Southern is a very good football team and is very deserving of their ranking. We knew it would be a tall order coming down here and playing them. At the end of the day, we didn’t do the things that we needed to do in order to give ourselves a chance. We were unable to really string a drive together and gave up too many big plays. It was just a very frustrating night. I think our kids competed but we just didn’t do the things that we needed to do in order to win the football game. Again, a lot of credit goes to them. They have a lot of experienced football players that are also good football players. They certainly deserved to win the football game.” Turning Point Charleston Southern scored three touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 21-3 lead in to halftime. PC was able to hold CSU to just 31 rushing yards in the opening quarter of play but the Buccaneers went for 104 yards on the ground in the second with all three scores coming on the ground. From there, CSU never looked back in the victory. How It Happened Neither defense would break in the opening quarter, as both sides were held below 80 yards of offense in the first 15 minutes of action. Charleston Southern would find the endzone on the second play of the second quarter, as Ben Robinson broke off a 25-yard run to give the Bucs an early 7-0 lead. PC got on the board less than three minutes later, after Ryan Burgess forced and recovered a fumble to give PC the ball at the CSU 19. Four plays later, Brett Norton converted a 33-yard field goal attempt for his fifth make of the year to make a 7-3 game.

Offensive Leader John Walker completed 14-of-22 passes for 74 yards in his first career start at quarterback for the Blue Hose. It was third time Walker had seen action this season but the first time he had played in a road game. Walker also carried the ball twice for three yards. Defensive Standout Grant Beidel continued his strong play on the defensive side of the ball, totaling a team-high 11 tackles and recording his team-leading second interception of the season. It was the third time in three games that Beidel amassed double-digit tackles and is the only PC player to total at least 10 tackles this year. Offensive Highlights - Brett Norton made his fifth field goal of the season, a 33-yarder, in the second quarter. He is now 5-of-7 on the year, including a flawless 4-for-4 on the road. - Joseph Purter recorded his best game of the season, hauling in a pair of passes for a season-high 37 receiving yards. The senior tight end entered the game with just three receptions for 13 yards on the year after missing the first three games with an injury. - Hayden Sanders recorded the first reception of his career in tonight’s game with a seven-yard reception in the fourth quarter. Defensive Notes - Ryan Burgess and Steve Osondu each forced a fumble in the contest, while Burgess recorded his first recovered fumble of the season. PC won the turnover battle for the third time this season, forcing two and yielding just one. - Brett Norton also continued his excellent work as a punter, booting the ball eight times for 350 yards for an average of 43.8 yards. He had two more downed inside the 20-yard line to push his total in that category to 19 on the year.

COASTAL CAROLINA 48 PRESBYTERIAN 17 OCT. 29, 2016 • BAILEY MEMORIAL STADIUM • CLINTON, S.C. The Presbyterian College football team dropped Saturday’s Homecoming matchup with former Big South foe Coastal Carolina, 48-17, in front of a crowd of 4,453 at Bailey Memorial Stadium. The Blue Hose fall to 2-6 on the year, while the Chanticleers improve to 6-2. Head Coach Harold Nichols’s Take “A lot of credit goes to Coastal Carolina. We didn’t get too many opportunities on offense in the second half because they were able to keep the ball. Their time of possession was much better than ours and seemed like they had the ball the whole time. We had some trouble on defense and had some guys out and they are big and physical up front. We had a hard time tackling them. They are a good football team and deserve a lot of credit. We didn’t do the things that we needed to do to win the football game.” Turning Point Turnovers proved costly for the Blue Hose, as two interceptions and a fumble led to 22 points off turnovers for the Chanticleers. CCU capitalized immediately on PC’s first turnover of the game, a fumble on its first play from scrimmage, scoring in one play from 20 yards out to get out to a 15-0 lead. The Chanticleers then came up with an interception on PC’s opening drive of the second half, leading to a two-yard touchdown run by Jah’Main Martin, his second of the game. How It Happened Coastal Carolina got out to a fast start, finding the endzone twice in the first three minutes of the contest. Ky’Jon Tyler hauled in a 38-yard pass from Tyler Keane at the 12:56 mark of the opening quarter and CCU would tack on two to take an early 8-0 lead. PC would fumble on its opening play of the game and Coastal Carolina recovered at the Blue Hose 20-yard line to start in its ensuing drive. The following play, Keane found Laquay Brown for the 20-yard score to make it 15-0 after the extra point. The Blue Hose would bounce back on its following possession, driving 75 yards in five plays with Ben Cheek finding Cedric Frazier for 30 yards for the touchdown to cut the lead to 15-7 with 9:39 to play in the first quarter. Both teams would punt on each of their next drives but Coastal Carolina would score again late in the quarter, as Martin rushed for three yards for the touchdown. CCU tacked on a two-point conversion again to make it a 23-7 lead. Coastal Carolina pushed the lead to 30-7 with a 12-yard run by Kenneth Daniels and a PAT with 12:12 left in the opening half. PC answered with the final two scores of the half to cut in to the margin. Darrell Bridges scored his second touchdown of the season with a 15-yard run midway through the second quarter to make it a 30-14 game. Brett Norton then connected on his second straight field goal at home with a 28-yard make with 23 seconds left in the half, making it a 13-point Coastal Carolina lead at 30-17.

The Chanticleers added to its lead early in the third quarter, as Martin scored for the second time on a twoyard run with a two-point conversion making it a 38-17 lead. CCU was able to get one more score in on the final play of the third quarter on a 44-yard field goal by Ryan Granger, making the margin 41-17. Coastal Carolina scored for the final time with 7:56 left in the game, as Daniels found the endzone again on a four-yard rush to make it a 48-17 advantage. Offensive Leader Darrell Bridges put together one of his stronger games of the season, rushing 16 times for 88 yards and a touchdown, his second of the season. Bridges now has 2,072 yards for his career, just the second player in PC’s Division I era to reach 2,000 career rushing yards. He joins Lance Byrd as the only other PC to reach the feat, after Byrd rushed for 2,631 yards in his career from 2009-12. Defensive Standout Ryan Burgess continued his strong play on defense, totaling 11 tackles in the game to go with a pass breakup. Burgess is the second PC player to total double-digit tackles in a game this season, with Grant Beidel having done so on two occasions previously. Over the last three games, Burgess has amassed 24 tackles, tied with Beidel for the team-high during that stretch. Offensive Highlights - Ben Cheek returned to action this week, completing 8-of-17 passes for 133 yards and a touchdown, his second of the season and PC’s sixth passing touchdown as a team. The sophomore also rushed 11 times for a season-high 39 yards. - Cedric Frazier hauled in three receptions for a career-high 74 receiving yards and a touchdown to lead PC on the afternoon. The freshman has been a standout in home games this season, totaling 11 receptions for 156 yards in the three home contests. - DaShawn Davis, PC’s leading receiver on the year, grabbed three catches for 52 receiving yards. The sophomore receiver now has 34 catches for 366 yards in 2016. - PC totaled 298 yards of total offense in today’s game with 165 rushing and 133 passing. The Blue Hose are averaging 338.3 yards of total offense at home this season, compared to 200.8 yards in five road games. Defensive Notes - Grant Beidel totaled eight tackles, including the team’s only sack and a tackle for loss. Beidel leads the squad with 54 tackles on the year and now has 2.5 sacks and 4.0 tackles for loss. He has managed at least seven tackles in each of his last four games. - Nick Moss reached eight tackles in the loss as well, as he continues to push Beidel for the team lead, trailing by just four on the season with 50. The freshman has recorded at least five tackles in each of his last six games.

LIBERTY 16 PRESBYTERIAN 0 NOV. 5, 2016 • BAILEY MEMORIAL STADIUM • CLINTON, S.C. The Presbyterian College football team fell to Liberty, 16-0, in its home finale on Saturday afternoon at Bailey Memorial Stadium. The Blue Hose fall to 2-7, 1-3 in Big South play with the loss, while Liberty improves to 6-3 and remains unbeaten at 4-0 in the league standings. Head Coach Harold Nichols’s Take “We only had 175 yards of total offense and 50 yards rushing to go with nine first downs. On top of that, we fumbled twice and threw two interceptions. The defense was on the field too long and we just didn’t give ourselves a chance to make a play offensively. We can’t do that. Liberty is a good football team and have won four in a row now. We have to do a better job executing on offense. I was proud of our defense though. They hung in there, played tough all day and gave us a chance. They were able to get the turnover in the endzone with our backs against the wall and then holding them to the field goal earlier in the game. We just can’t turn the ball over four times. It’s frustrating for our kids but I am proud of the way that they played and the effort that they showed.” Turning Point Turnovers led to a Blue Hose loss for the second straight week, as PC lost the ball four times during the game with two interceptions and two fumbles. Liberty only managed to convert one in to points but it was enough to clinch the victory. The Flames scored on a one-yard touchdown run by Frankie Hickson with 4:41 to play in the game after an interception gave them the ball in PC territory. How It Happened The defenses looked in control early in the game with the two teams combining for just one first down through the first two possessions. Liberty would get the scoring started with a touchdown late in the opening quarter. Todd Macon scored from eight yards out to cap off a 10-play drive but the extra point was no good to keep it a 6-0 Liberty lead. PC would put together its best drive of the game midway through the second quarter, going 66 yards in nine plays but the 20-yard field goal attempt was blocked and the Blue Hose came up empty. The Flames would get the only other points of the opening half with a late field goal to push it to a 9-0 halftime lead. Alex Probert, after missing the extra point attempt on LU’s touchdown, connected from 22 yards out.

Offensive Leader DaShawn Davis, PC’s leading receiver on the year, caught six passes for 75 yards in the loss, including a long of 48 yards. Davis now has caught 40 passes for 441 yards on the year. He is the first PC player to total 40 receptions in a season since 2014 and sits one just reception shy of moving in to the top 10 in receptions for a single-season in PC’s Division I era. Defensive Standout Nick Moss totaled a career-high 11 tackles in today’s game, including a tackle for loss. Moss is the third PC player in as many weeks to reach double-digit tackles with one each totaling exactly 11 tackles. The freshman now has 61 tackles on the season, one shy of the team lead which remains with Grant Beidel at 62 tackles. Offensive Highlights - Ben Cheek completed 15-of-26 passes for 122 yards in the contest. Cheek has gone over the century mark in passing yards in each of his last four starts, after not having reached 100 yards in each of his first seven starts. Cheek also rushed eight times for 21 yards to total 143 yards of total offense. Defensive Notes - Senior Ryan Brown teamed up with his fellow senior Obinna Ntiasagwe to create a PC turnover in the opening half. Brown was able to force a fumble with Ntiasagwe coming up with the recovery. It was the first forced fumble of Brown’s career and the second fumble recovery of Ntiasagwe’s. - Kenneth Coleman recorded his second interception of the season in today’s game, shortening a Liberty with a takeaway in the endzone on an overthrown ball. Coleman is now tied for the team lead in INTs and is the only defensive back on the team with more than one. He also recorded four tackles in the game. - Seniors Khari Rosier and Kamren Mack each had a big day from the defensive line. Rosier amassed a career-high nine tackles in his final game at Bailey Memorial Stadium, including a sack and a tackle for loss. Mack also recorded a career-high with six tackles, including a tackle for loss. - PC held Liberty to just 16 points in today’s game. The Flames entered the contest averaging 31.6 points per game and had scored no fewer than 23 points in a conference game this year.

The defenses pitched a shutout in the third quarter with the offenses combining for just 107 yards of total offense. It wasn’t until late in the fourth quarter that either team was able to get any points. Liberty intercepted a Ben Cheek pass with under five minutes to play in the game to regain possession at the PC 34-yard line. Seven plays and 34 yards later, Hickson found the endzone from oneyard out to push the final margin to 16-0 after the PAT.
