Preparing your PHD Dolphin+ For either Offline Circulation or Inventory in Destiny, you can use a PHD Dolphin+ to collect and store the scans. Then, you'll transfer the scans to your workstation and upload them to Destiny for processing. Before using a PHD Dolphin+ for the first time, you’ll need to prepare both your workstation and the PHD Dolphin+. •

Install drivers on your workstation ONLY IF you have a different workstation and a Dolphin HomeBase that connects to a USB port on the workstation. The drivers enable your operating system to communicate with the Dolphin through the USB port. (You don't need to install drivers for a serial PHD Dolphin+. Please see picture of cables below)

Install the Dolphin File Transfer utility to your workstation. The Dolphin File Transfer utility is a program that transfers the scan files from the Dolphin to the workstation. It's available for workstations running a Windows operating system or a Mac OS® .

Transfer two files (AUTOEXEC.BAT and S.EXE) to your Dolphin. The correct scanning application, S.EXE, in the Dolphin. The correct AUTOEXEC.BAT application in the Dolphin.

Please see “Dolphin Troubleshooting” for further information. These are automatic downloads but sometimes fail. You will need to follow the steps listed there should this occur.

All these components must be in place before you can begin scanning.

STEP 1: Identifying the need for downloading the utilities How can I tell if my Dolphin and my workstation are ready? You can perform the following two or three checks to see if your workstation and your Dolphin are ready for scanning in Destiny: A. If you have a USB PHD Dolphin+, connect the PHD Dolphin+ HomeBase to your workstation. If the Add Hardware Wizard starts, the drivers have not been installed. You'll need to install the two drivers to your workstation. (You don't need to install drivers for a serial PHD Dolphin+.) B. If you do not have a shortcut for the Dolphin File Transfer utility (DCOMM2.EXE) on your Desktop, you Dolphin File Transfer.exe may need to install the utility. C. When you turn on the PHD Dolphin+, you should see Scan a Barcode on the Dolphin screen. If you do not, you need to install the scanning application (S.EXE) and Destiny's AUTOEXEC.BAT to your PHD Dolphin+.

No need to install drivers for serial cables.

2 types of Dolphin cables

STEP 2: Installing the Dolphin USB drivers Installing the Dolphin USB Drivers - Windows

You must install the two drivers before attempting to use the unit. 1. Connect the power supply cable to the HomeBase and plug the power supply into an outlet. When the Dolphin unit is in the HomeBase, the DOCK light should be illuminated green. 2. Attach the USB data cable to the HomeBase. 3. With the computer on, connect the USB data cable to the computer. Windows automatically detects the connection and launches the Add New Hardware wizard. Important: Because two drivers are required, Windows will cycle through the Add New Hardware wizard twice. Do not interrupt this process. 4. Download the drivers from Destiny’s Help and unzip them to a convenient folder. 5. Follow the Add New Hardware wizard instructions to specify the location of the drivers. Windows finds and installs the first driver (HHPBUS.INF). 6. On the last screen offered by the Add New Hardware wizard, click Finish. Note: Windows pauses and then launches the Add New Hardware wizard again. 7. Repeat steps 5 and 6. During the second cycle, the wizard locates and installs the second driver (HHPPORT.INF). 8. After clicking Finish the second time, the driver installation is complete.

STEP 3: Installing the files for the Dolphin+ After installing the driver you must now install the Dolphin file transfer. (Install the Dolphin File Transfer utility for Windows operating system to the workstation(s) where you'll be downloading scans.)

Installing the Dolphin File Transfer Utility – Windows: 1) Download and save the installation program DOLPHIN_FILE_XFER.EXE to the local workstation. You may wish to create a folder and name it accordingly on your desktop for these files. 2) Locate the folder you saved the file to and double click on the DOLPHIN_FILE_XFER.EXE file to launch the installation wizard.

3) Click Next. On the next dialog, the location of the Destination Folder is identified.

4) Either click Next to install to the default destination folder (C:\Program Files\Dolphin File Transfer\), or click Change to specify a different location.

5) Click Finish to close the wizard. The installation creates a shortcut on the Desktop:

To set up the File Transfer utility to communicate with the PHD Dolphin+, follow the instructions in Configuring the Dolphin File Transfer utility on Windows.

STEP 4: Configuring the file transfer utility Configuring the Dolphin File Transfer Utility – Windows: The following instructions assume that the Dolphin File Transfer utility has already been installed on the workstation. 1) Start the Dolphin File Transfer utility by clicking on the shortcut on the Desktop:

Place the Dolphin in the HomeBase. You should see the following message on the Dolphin's screen: You have a LOG file, do you wish to ship it out? 3. Type Y (press the 3 key once) for Yes. You should see the following message on the Dolphin's screen: Set Dcomm to Receive a file Place in base Press Enter 4. Start the Dolphin File Transfer utility (Dcomm) and click Receive File on the Dolphin File Transfer dialog. 5. With the Dolphin in the HomeBase, press ENTER on the Dolphin to begin the file transfer. Once the file has transferred to the computer, you should see Hooray! Your data has transferred successfully, indicating that the utility has successfully transferred your Scan.Log file to the computer. At this point, the utility automatically deletes the scans from the Dolphin. The Dolphin then shifts to the low-power mode (displaying the Follett logo). Transferring Multiple Files If you collect additional scans with the Dolphin and wish to transfer another batch to your workstation, you'll receive the following message on your computer after clicking Receive File: SCAN.LOG Dcomm is going to overwrite this file. Do you really want this? Choose Create a backup copy. The utility automatically renames the existing Scan.Log file to Scan.Log.Bak0. If a Scan.Log.Bak0 already exists, it renames it to Scan.Log.Bak1 and Scan.Log file is renamed Scan.Log.Bak0, etc. The higher the appended number on the file name, the older the Scan.Log file. Important: The utility can rename and save only 10 log files—Scan.Log.Bak1 through Scan.Log.Bak9. If you attempt to save more, the utility overwrites the oldest log file. Make sure to upload the files to Destiny promptly. Once the utility transfers the file to the computer, you can upload the file to Destiny. Choosing Abort cancels the file transfer. Press ENTER on the Dolphin to return to the scanning mode. Choosing Overwrite overwrites the existing Scan.Log file on your computer.
