FULTON COUNTY SCHOOLS PRE-K LOTTERY GUIDELINES The following information should be provided to parents. I.

BEFORE REGISTRATION 1. Registration dates 2. Date/Time/Location of drawing 3. Dates/Times pre-registration packets will be available for pick up 4. Lottery priorities will be determined by the following: i. The students in the school’s attendance district will be drawn first. ii. After the students within the school’s attendance zone have been selected, the same procedure will be followed for the students outside the school’s attendance zone.

II.

REGISTRATION PROCEDURES 1. Use the “Registration Sign In Sheet” to have parents sign in upon arrival. 2. Use the corresponding “Number Cards” to keep up with the order each family should be served. 3. After reviewing all documents and determining if the student should be included on the “In Zone” or “Out of Zone” list, complete the “Lottery Registration Ticket” and add it to the appropriate lottery. NOTE: Twins or other multiples must be recorded on the same registration ticket.

III.

LOTTERY PROCEDURES 1. Use the “Lottery Registration Tickets” in the lottery. Make sure they are folded so the names will be hidden. Select a neutral staff member to draw the tickets. 2. After a ticket is selected, call out the child’s name and pass the ticket to the person recording the names. 3. The name of the child and the will be recorded by the appropriate personnel on the “Lottery Drawing” form provided. NOTE: Twins or other multiples must receive the same registration ticket and will be given slots to accommodate all children if their number is selected and space is available. 4. The first child drawn will be recorded as #1 on the “In School Zone” list. 5. Continue drawing registration tickets and recording the names until all registration tickets are pulled. 6. Transfer the names to the appropriate waiting list after all student slots have been filled. 7. If twins or other multiples are drawn at the end of the lottery and space is not available to accommodate all of the other siblings, the parent must decide which child will be in the program by last day of school. If the parent wants all other siblings enrolled in the program and space is not available, they can be added to the top of the waiting list. Regular classes will not exceed 22 and inclusion classes will not exceed 20 students. For additional questions regarding twins or multiples, please contact LeMell Cobbs ([email protected]) or Montreal Bell at ([email protected]) or (404)763-4574.

LOTTERY PROCEDURES (CONTINUED) 8. Once the “In School Zone” drawing is completed, the same procedure will be followed for the “Out of School Zone” students. 9. When all students have been placed on a list, complete the appropriate form letters (Student Acceptance Letter or Waiting List Letter) to notify parents of their status. 10. Slots that become vacant or are still vacant after the drawing should first be filled with students who are on the “In School Zone” waiting list. 11. Once the “In School Zone” waiting list is exhausted and there are still openings, continue to fill slots with in zone students on a first come, first served basis throughout the first week of school. If there are still vacancies during the second week of school, slots can be filled using the “Out of School Zone” waiting list. 12. If there are openings at any time during the school year, the students within the school’s attendance zone in will have first priority over students outside the attendance zone. 13. Principals can designate one slot in each Pre-K classroom for staff children. If there are multiple staff members interested in the slots, a lottery process should be used to assign the spaces. 14. FCS employees can be added to the “In School Zone” lottery. If your school has a very long waiting list, encourage the FCS staff to register at other schools that have short or no waiting lists. Student Social Security Number Information Bright from the Start requests families provide Social Security Numbers for children attending Pre-K. Bright from the Start uses Social Security Numbers to insure accurate enrollment information, to help prevent fraudulent student attendance reporting, and to obtain a unique 10- digit identifier (GTID) for your child from the Georgia Department of Education. This GTID number will be associated with your child for the remainder of their schooling years instead of their Social Security Number. Social Security Numbers are not used by Bright from the Start for any other purpose. The Social Security Numbers are not shared with any other vendors or third parties and, for security reasons, they are encrypted in our database. While a Social Security Number is not required to attend Georgia’s Pre-K Program, it is beneficial to both you and your child to provide this information. If a Social Security Number is not given for a child, Bright from the Start requires that you specify a reason below to explain why the information is not being provided. I,

, as parent/legal guardian of __________________, am not

able/willing at this time to provide Bright from the Start with a Social Security Number because: I need help obtaining an SSN. I need help replacing a lost SSN. I am awaiting a replacement SSN and will provide it when it arrives. I forgot to bring the SSN and will provide within 30 days. I choose not to provide the SSN because (a reason must be provided) _________________________________________________________________.

Información Sobre el Numero de Seguro Social del Alumno Bright from the Start solicita que las familias proporcionen el Número de Seguro Social para todo alumno que asiste al Programa Pre-escolar. Bright from the Start utiliza el Número de Seguro

have received the attendance guidelines as it pertains to the Pre-K program. Attendance Guidelines  I understand that my child will attend class for the entire 6.5 hour school day, five days a week.  I am also aware of my child’s school hours. I understand that is very important for my child to arrive timely to school and remain for the entire day of 6.5 hours.  Repeated tardies, early dismissals, and late pick-ups can result in my child being disenrolled from the program.  A tardy is only excused if it is due to a medical appointment with proof of verification from the medical provider.  If my child becomes ill or has a medical appointment, I will provide the school (or teacher) with a written excuse from the medical personnel in which my child was seen.  If my child’s condition is treated at home, I will provide a written note to explain his/her condition.  All documents and notes for absences or tardies must be submitted within 48 hours of my child’s return to school. If I do not provide documentation, I understand that the absence or tardy will be considered unexcused.  Excessive excused and unexcused absences can result in disenrollment from the Pre-K program. Absences due to bereavement, military, and or family emergency will be considered for excuse with written verification.  There is a 10 day consecutive absence/tardy policy. Failure to notify the school of an emergency situation that will result in 10 days of absences or tardies will result in automatic withdrawal from the program. Pre-K enrollment is voluntary and spaces are limited and only available to students within the Fulton County School attendance zone. If you relocate or withdraw from the program, please provide the school with updated information as soon as possible. Pre-K students cannot be enrolled in two programs at the same time. If you plan to move out of the school zone, please check with that school to inquire about openings. Pre-K has a maximum capacity of 22 students per classroom. If you move out of the Fulton County School attendance zone, your child will be withdrawn from the program.
