Getting Started There are two different ways in which practice tests are done; using the GMetrix SMS icon on your desktop and through www.GMetrix.net. Microsoft Office practice exams must be done through the GMetrix SMS icon on your desktop which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, OneNote, Office365 and SharePoint. All Microsoft Technology Associate, Autodesk Certified User and Adobe Certified Associate practice exams must be done online at www.gmetrix.net.

Microsoft Office Specialist To start a Microsoft Office test: 1. Double click on the GMetrix SMS icon on your desktop. Enter your GMetrix username and password and then click sign in.

Note: If your organisation requires proxy details, enter them by clicking on the briefcase icon 2. If this is the first time you have logged on to GMetrix, click ‘Take a Test’. Alternatively if you have a previously saved test click ‘My Tests’.

Training Mode Training Mode allows you to “learn by doing” and is beneficial in the preparation part of your certification process. This feature helps you learn from your mistakes. Because Training Mode is not timed and provides instant feedback it is designed to be used as a learning tool. At any time during the training you can choose to exit and either save where you are up to or go to the end and receive a score report of what you completed. You also have the option to mark a question for later and view a list of all of the questions to find the unanswered ones to retry.

Test training, in training mode, is where GMetrix presents you with questions that ask you to carry out specific tasks in the relevant Microsoft Office application that need to be completed one by one and is marked individually. This test is not timed and you will get instant feedback after every question to help you prepare for the exam. If you answered incorrectly or don’t know how to complete the question you have the option to return to the question and make use of the “Help Box” which gives step by step instructions on how to complete the question successfully and can be accessed by clicking on the light bulb icon. Projects, in training mode, is where you are given a completed document, a blank or semi-completed document, and a set of instructions on how to make the uncompleted document look like the completed document. You are still allowed access to “Help” that gives you step by step instructions on how to complete the tasks. Note: Projects are only available for Office 2013 practice tests.

Testing Mode Testing mode simulates what the exam conditions will be like allowing you to practice the skills you were able to learn from the training mode. Unlike Training mode there is no help box and each test must be completed in the time limit that is given.

Test training, in testing mode, is where GMetrix presents questions that ask you to carry out specific tasks in the relevant Microsoft Office application except this time there is a set number of questions that must be carried out within the allotted time. You are unable to access the help box for the instructions and at the end of the test you will receive a “Score Report”, identifying how you have performed against the objectives of the test and any skills gaps that you should work on. Projects, in testing mode, are also set out the same as in the training mode with a completed worksheet, semi-completed worksheet and a set of instructions but this time you have a set time limit and are unable to receive the step by step instructions. By using this mode it allows you to see what you have learned and understood so that you are able to go back and work on the skills that are lacking. Note: Projects are only available for Office 2013 practice tests.
