POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE CRITICAL CARE NURSING- INTENSIVE CARE Facilitates the development of advanced knowledge and clinical competency specific to nursing in the Intensive Care environment. It allows the opportunity to explore: • Complex nursing management • Critical thinking • Contemporary issues • 53 weeks and is run in collaboration with Joondalup Health Campus • Enabling specialist clinical rotations • Clinical support and assessment is provided by a dedicated team of experienced Staff Development Nurses.

POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE OF CRITICAL CARE NURSING- INTENSIVE CARE Program Outline – Under review This postgraduate certificate level program is comprised of three theory and one clinical practice unit. Academic and practical assessments are conducted over the duration of the course. Course fees of $500 apply for each unit (internal), $750 (external) Advanced Nursing Concepts This foundation unit introduces broad concepts of advanced physiology and clinical care. The unit encourages development of problem-solving skills based on advanced nursing principles. Critical Care 1 Introduces the application of physiology and pathophysiology within the critical care environment. Strong emphasis upon comprehensive systematic physical assessment that underpins patient management. The student works sequentially through body systems, common disease processes and their therapeutic management. Critical Care 2 Explores complex pathophysiology requiring sophisticated management strategies. Crisis events relating to the critically ill patient and their families are examined. The student applies principles from Advanced Nursing Concepts and Critical Care 1 to complex multifactorial patients. Emphasis is given to communication and interpersonal skills applied to differing team dynamics and leadership models. Advanced Nursing Practice The Advanced Nursing Practice Unit spans both semesters of the program and is fundamental in facilitating the application of the theory component of the course to nursing practice. Students will rotate through topics in ICU, including possible placements in other hospitals, to develop and apply skills.

POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE OF CRITICAL CARE NURSING- INTENSIVE CARE ESSENTIAL FOR APPLICATIONS • • •

Registered Nurse currently registered with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) A minimum of 2 years post-registration experience A minimum of 6 months recent experience in a critical care setting

MINIMUM CRITERIA REQUIREMENTS • Well developed verbal and written communication skills • Proven ability to be a self-directed learner • Demonstrated ability to adapt to a new environment • Demonstrated problem solving ability in the area of speciality • Demonstrated literacy in information technology COURSE REQUIREMENTS • Successful external students will be granted a 12 month fixed term employment contract • A minimum of 64 hrs per fortnight to be worked (request for reduced hours to be made to the course coordinator and may be granted with view of possible clinical extension to cover contact hours) • 8 hour shift pattern is to be worked (request for 12 hour shift pattern to be made to the course coordinator and may be granted with view of possible clinical extension to cover contact hours. This request can only come from staff already contract to SCGH or JHC 12 hour shift agreement)
