The Organization Founded in Cleveland in 1955, Recovery Resources is a private 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that helps people triumph over mental illness, alcoholism, drug and other addictions primarily through outpatient programming. Recovery Resources is accredited by CARF and the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services, and is a contract agency of the Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services Board of Cuyahoga County and the United Way. Recovery Resources provides a broad continuum of care including Education and Prevention, Outpatient Treatment and Recovery Support Services. About 13,000 people per year seek help at one of Recovery Resources’ three physical offices (Midtown and Old Brooklyn neighborhoods in Cleveland and in the suburb of Lakewood) and services are also delivered at multiple community-based settings throughout Northeast Ohio. The Old Brooklyn office was just opened in July 2014, providing the organization with new larger location to facilitate the integration of physical healthcare into their services. This fiscally sound organization has a $13MM operating budget generated from over 40 different revenue streams including government, corporate and individuals. Recovery Resources has over 225 regular staff, also employs 100 clients/employees in their social enterprises and is actively supported by a large group of volunteers. The organization enjoys a deserved reputation as a mission-driven, outstanding provider of services and is recognized by funders, healthcare institutions, other nonprofits, clients and their families and the media as an important partner in addressing and communicating behavioral health issues and broader health needs. Debbie Rodriguez has been with Recovery Resources for over 9 years, the past 6 as President & Chief Executive Officer. She recently announced her intention to relocate to California in late summer, 2014. As a result, the Board of Directors has embarked on a national search to recruit a new CEO who will guide the organization and its important recovery services and programs in the region. The Position: Location: The President & Chief Executive Officer position is based at Recovery Resources’ main office located at 3950 Chester Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44114; telephone (216) 431-4131. Reporting Relationships: The President & Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”) reports to the Chair of the 8-member Executive Committee of Recovery Resources 32-member volunteer Board of Directors. The CEO supervises the following direct reports: Chief Operating Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Director-Development, Director-Human Resources, and has an active working relationship with the other key staff leaders: Medical Director; Director-Continuous Quality & Performance Improvement, Director-Clinical Services; Director-Strategic Implementation; Director-Wellness & Recovery Services; total staff of over 225.

Other important relationships include: 18-member Associate Board (promotes the mission of Recovery Resources and comprised of community-minded young professionals); ADAMHS Board; elected officials; community leaders from business, healthcare and other nonprofit organizations and agencies; funders; clients and their families; the media. Position Charter: The President & Chief Executive Officer is responsible for managing and directing Recovery Resources to provide services to help people triumph over mental illness, alcoholism, drug, gambling and other addictions. This executive is responsible for leading the effective daily operations of the Recovery Resources organization, staff resources, and operations to enable the agency’s maximization of services, ensuring outstanding clinical and customer service to constituents in compliance with laws, rules, and standards. The President & Chief Executive Officer must ensure Recovery Resources’ long-term relevance, viability and sustainability, with constant attention paid to balancing the mission-focus and financial health of the organization. In partnership with the Board of Directors, the CEO is responsible for setting the vision and strategic direction for the agency. Major Duties and Responsibilities:  Plan, coordinate and control the daily operations of Recovery Resources through managers to include: Chief Operating Officer, Chief Financial Officer and the Director of Human Resources.  Establish, in partnership with the Board, strategic plans, as well as short and long range goals and objectives.  Regularly meet with Recovery Resources’ management team to ensure that operations are being executed in accordance with the organization's policies and plans.  Oversee the adequacy and soundness of Recovery Resources’ financial structure. Direct preparation of the annual budget in consultation with the departmental directors and the Chief Financial Officer to allocate funds, control costs and maintain operations to meet budget targets.  Participate in the agency’s ongoing engagement with key funding sources including ADAMHS Board, United Way, and, as appropriate, private donors and foundations. Creatively seek ways to assist the executive team and Board in the funding and implementation of programs that support the agency’s mission.  Review operating results of the organization, compare them to established objectives, and take steps to ensure that appropriate measures are taken to correct unsatisfactory results.  Establish and maintain an effective system of communication throughout the organization and act as the spokesperson cultivating the relationships for Recovery Resources with the media, service organizations, Board of Directors, community organizations and financial donors.  Ensures synergy and cohesion between the programmatic, fiscal and development functions of the organization.  Create, implement and sustain strategic partnerships in the Northeast Ohio community.  Vet business and other collaborative opportunities based on data-driven return on investment analysis.  Build, support and cultivate a passionate, highly effective Board of Directors and Associate Board.  Create and nurture a work environment where employees and volunteers feel valued and respected.  Increase the visibility and reputation of Recovery Resources in the Northeast Ohio community as a leading, innovative behavioral health care provider, able to address a variety of needs and populations, including individuals with dual-diagnosis.  Engage externally in ways that strategically position Recovery Resources as a respected, trusted, highly valued partner;  Infuse an entrepreneurial spirit to the work of the organization, and especially senior staff, with the goal of generating increased revenue at acceptable margins.  Oversee the maintenance of the capital assets of the organization. 2

Plan and direct all investigations and negotiations pertaining to mergers, joint ventures, the acquisition of businesses, expansion or the sale of major assets with the approval of the Board of Directors. Represent the organization and participate in community activities to develop opportunities to ascertain needs, serve agencies, and promote Recovery Resources’ goals.

Compensation: The President & Chief Executive Officer is expected to earn an attractive compensation package; appropriate benefits and some relocation assistance may be provided. The Candidate: Education: A Bachelor’s degree and an advanced degree in Social Service, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Nonprofit Management or a related field are required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience as noted below. Professional Qualifications: The ideal candidate is currently serving as the CEO/Executive Director or #2 executive of a successful and complex nonprofit organization with a comparable mission in the behavioral health arena. Alternative experience could include: a key leadership position in a related nonprofit; private sector leadership experience with a background that demonstrates commitment to nonprofit organizations; or a key leadership position in a physical health care organization. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Attributes:  Administration: strong background in administrative leadership of all, or a major component of, a complex social service organization possessing at least 5+ years of management experience.  Mission-focused: demonstrated commitment to behavioral health and related issues faced by adults and adolescents.  Behavioral healthcare: in-depth understanding of the business of behavioral healthcare and demonstrated understanding of the issues facing the human services economic sector.  Fiscal management: significant experience in developing, managing, and dealing with budgets between $5 and $15+ million.  Resource development: experience with varied funding sources including ADAMHS Boards, United Way, state and federal grants, private donors and foundations.  Management: has managed and motivated strong staff members; possesses a team-oriented management style.  Planning: has worked with staff and Board to develop and implement successful tactical and strategic plans and a commitment to continuous quality improvement.  Board relationships: significant involvement with Board of Directors and Board committees.  Diversity: experience working with diverse groups; promotes diversity programmatically.  External relationships: developed effective relationships with other community “players” including local, state and federal elected officials and their staffs, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, educators, healthcare institutions and other provider organizations.  Volunteer experience: appreciates the value of and proven ability to motivate and utilize volunteers.  Media/public relations: ability to effectively articulate goals, objectives and policy positions of Recovery Resources to the media and the community at large.  Established contacts: has developed and maintained regional and national connections with related behavioral health and human service organizations.  Community relationships: active in other community-based organizations. 3

Challenges and Opportunity: The projected first year accomplishments for the new Chief Executive Officer include:  “Hit the ground running” in this leadership role and keep pace with ongoing matters and the daily demands of the position. This includes becoming completely familiar with Recovery Resources and its history and operations while forging effective working relationships with the executive team, experienced staff and Board of Directors.  Develop understanding of the funding culture within Northeast Ohio and the State of Ohio to participate in the identification of sources of revenue. Work with Board, Director-Development and development consultant and other key volunteers to finalize completion of the $1.5MM capital campaign.  Develop effective working relationships with all key external stakeholders including but not limited to: clients served; community leaders; judicial system; local, state and federal elected officials and their staffs; outside advisors and funders including governmental entities and ADAMHS Board. 4

Initiate with Board and staff a multi-year strategic plan to consider the Recovery Resources organization, engagement with related human and healthcare services players in the region and continued reinforcement of the organization’s mission and vision. Lead the efforts for a grand year-long celebration in 2015 to mark the 60th anniversary of Recovery Resources with appropriate media coverage, support from public funders and the philanthropic community and excitement from staff and other partners. Continue to encourage staff members in their own professional and personal growth paths, providing mentoring and support to each as needed and maintaining established culture of excellence in programs, services and operations. Work with the staff team to secure a formal partnership relationship with a physical healthcare provider.
