Importance of the Mill 

Impacts beyond fiber must be considered 75% of the environmental impact of paper occurs at the manufacturing facility. This is the piece of the sustainability equation that many are missing. Energy, air pollution, solid wastes, water consumption and supply chain all relate to the manufacturing site Where and how is your paper made?

Port Alberni Division’s Energy Story $4.7 million in capital invested in 2011 to improve the efficiency/reliability of our Port Alberni Biomass Boiler. Improvements to the Boiler combustion air system and Economizer (preheats the feed-water) resulted in a total increased efficiency of 1.5%. We are achieving close to 95% steam from Wood-waste (Biomass) in our Boiler.
