Pony Club & the Event Pony Club is one of Australia’s largest youth organisations. It provides members with horse riding, equine management and citizenship skills. These experiences form the basis for children to learn many life skills that in turn lead them to being better community members. It is a sporting body that provides a platform for talented athletes to then go on to compete at National and International levels, with many Olympians beginning their early riding with the Pony Club movement. In 2013 the Pony Club Association of Western Australia (PCAWA) will host the National Pony Club Championships on behalf of Pony Club Australia (PCA) from Wednesday 25th September until Monday 30th September 2013, at the State Equestrian Centre in Brigadoon. It will include competitions in the equestrian disciplines of Dressage, Eventing, Showjumping, Mounted Games and Tetrathlon (running, swimming, shooting and riding - a shortened form of the Olympic pentathlon event), for approximately 170 riders aged 12 to 25 years of age. Competitors and their families will come from NSW, VIC, QLD, SA, TAS, WA and the NT. This is a unique sporting event that offers sponsors the opportunity to build their brand and showcase products to a variety of customers. This Event will give brand exposure to thousands of avid equestrian enthusiasts of a wide range of ages on site, and an even greater number, approximately fifty thousand plus, through the Australia wide pre promotion and Event coverage. By sponsoring this event you will be aligning your company with a voluntary youth organisation which exists to promote the physical, mental and spiritual development of young people, seeks to improve health and fitness of its members and has values with a strong focus on fun and family. Your company has the opportunity to leverage its association with; ·

Successful young athletes of Australia, competing at a National level

·

Health and fitness of young people

·

Future Olympians – highlighted during the 1992, 1996, 2000 and 2008 Olympics when the successful Australian Eventing teams comprised former Pony Club members

·

A large dedicated team of volunteers who share the Australian spirit

The Competitions Dressage The object of Dressage is the development of the horse into a happy athlete through harmonious education. As a result, it makes the horse calm, supple, loose and flexible, but also confident attentive and keen, thus achieving perfect understanding with the rider. A dressage test comprises a set of exercises divided into movements that test the horse’s level of training. Judges look for a well-educated horse that is calm, supple, obedient and correct.

Showjumping A jumping competition is one in which the combination of horse and rider is tested under various conditions over a course of obstacles. The test demonstrates the horse’s freedom energy, skill, speed and obedience. Faults such as knocking down an obstacle, refusing or exceeding the time allowed incur penalties. The winner is the combination who incurs the least number of faults in the fastest time.

Eventing Eventing is a complete test of the horse and rider, demanding experience in three different phases of Dressage, Cross Country and Showjumping. It is a test of speed, endurance and jumping ability. Penalties accrue for failing to negotiate obstacles and exceeding the time allowed.

Mounted Games In 1956 His Royal Highness Prince Philip spoke of his interest in developing a team competition for Pony Club riders who didn’t necessarily have 'show ponies'. He envisaged a series of games on horseback for teams of four riders. His vision was to arrange races that would be exciting for the spectator and rider alike and encourage outstanding horsemanship, skills and balance without the need for 'specialist ponies or horses'. In 1957 Mounted Games emerged as a Pony Club activity in Great Britain and by 1965 the Prince Philip Mounted Games had spread from Great Britain to America, Canada and Australia.

Invitational Tetrathlon The Tetrathlon provides a challenging competition for athletes, combining sound practical horsemanship with other athletic disciplines. The objective is to encourage all round sporting ability, including horse riding. This event is based on the Olympic Pentathlon and includes the following four phases, Running, Shooting, Swimming and Cross Country riding. As PCAWA is hosting the International Tetrathlon in 2014, an Invitational Tetrathlon has been added to these National Championships, however it is not a Championship event. It is hoped that in future years it will be included in the National Championships.

Event Marketing Plan This event will be marketed by print, electronic media and social media. A website will be devoted to the National Championships which will be used to: ·

advertise the event,

·

impart information to the competitors and their support crew prior to the event,

·

report results daily during the event and;

·

remain as a resource after the event for final results and event wrap up.

Articles will also be featured in the PCAWA E-Blasts and equestrian publications in the lead up and after the finish of this event. E-Blasts, newspaper adverts and flyers may also be used in the lead up to this event to raise awareness and create interest in the field.

Sponsorship Conducting the National Championships will require a budget in excess of $200,000. While some of the budget items will be covered by team entries we will still need to raise a considerable amount of finance to make this event a success. Involvement with such a prestigious event will provide a unique opportunity to promote goods and services Australia wide while supporting Pony Club as a Youth Movement with all its ideals.
