Polycom Digital Signage Solution The Polycom Digital Signage solution is a combination of powerful applications, including the following components:

Polycom Digital Signage Player The Polycom Digital Signage Player is a powerful appliance that delivers the highest quality output with the highest level of reliability. Unlike simple video playback devices, the Polycom Digital Signage Player dynamically arranges and composes signage elements, objects or zones in real time to generate the final video output. This means individual content elements can be changed at any time, without requiring entire video segments to be re-rendered whenever a change is needed.

Architecture Overview

Getting Started with the Polycom Digital Signage Player

Architecture Overview

The image above presents an overview of the Polycom Digital Signage solution, depicting the overarching architecture for the various components of the solution. Content, in the form of templates, assets, and playlists, is created, assembled and managed using the Polycom Digital Signage Web Controller. Users can easily update content using the Web Controller’s point-and-click interface. The content is automatically distributed to Polycom Digital Signage Players via the Polycom Digital Signage Server, which acts as the central hub for the Polycom Digital Signage system. The Polycom Digital Signage Player renders content in real time for display to a monitor, with the Polycom Digital Signage Agent linking Players to the Server. The Polycom Digital Signage Agent also monitors the status of the Polycom Digital Signage Player, and sends regular heartbeat and status messages to the Polycom Digital Signage Server. The Agent can also take steps to "heal" the Player if it detects a problem. Administrators monitor and manage the system using the Polycom Digital Signage Remote Manager application. This software displays the status and details of all the Players connected to the system. Administrators can also use the Polycom Digital Signage Remote Manager to distribute and manage content packages, as well as issue commands to individual players or groups of players, although content updates and distribution are typically handled via the Polycom Digital Signage Web Controller. The Web Controller is used for day-to-day updates to content appearing on the monitors in a given Polycom Digital Signage network. Polycom, Inc.

Protecting against Electrostatic Discharge Electrostatic discharge (ESD) events can harm electronic components inside your equipment. To prevent ESD damage, you should discharge static electricity from your body before you interact with any of your equipment’s internal electronic components by touching a metal grounded object, such as the unpainted metal surface on your computer’s I/O panel. In addition, as you work inside the equipment, periodically discharge any static charge your body may have accumulated.

General Power Safety Observe the following guidelines when connecting your equipment to a power source: •

Check the voltage rating before you connect the equipment to an electrical outlet to ensure that the required voltage and frequency match the available power source.

Your device is equipped with either an internal power source or an external adapter. For an internal power source, your device is equipped with one of the following: — An auto-sensing voltage circuit: Devices with an auto-sensing voltage circuit do not have a voltage selection switch on the back panel and automatically detect the correct operating voltage. OR

— A manual selection voltage selection switch: Devices with a voltage selection switch on the back panel must be manually set to operate at the correct operating voltage. Set the switch to the position that most closely matches the voltage used in your location.

NOTE: The switch on your system may be different from the one pictured above.

CAUTION: To avoid damaging a Player with a manual voltage selection switch, set the switch for the voltage that most closely matches the AC power available in your location.

However, a Player running in Single Monitor Mode will launch with default resolution of 1024 x 768. In order to configure the optimal resolution for your monitor and solution needs, two options are available. The recommended method is to locally configure the Player output to match the default resolution of the monitor. The other method is provided through Remote Manager by configuration of an .ini file. This method is recommended for users with advanced IT knowledge only. It is detailed in the Polycom Digital Signage Administrator Guide. NOTE: At any time during the Polycom Digital Signage Player setup, when the Polycom Digital Signage Player is displaying content from a currently playing playlist in single monitor full screen mode, you can stop player output and go back to displaying the Windows Desktop by simultaneously pressing the ALT and Escape keys of the keyboard connected to the Polycom Digital Signage Player.

Dual Monitor Mode Dual Monitor Mode lets installers connect a VGA connector to a Player, allowing network administrator to view the primary screen desktop, and any running applications like the Player software, without interrupting the digital signage playout to the Secondary Screen connected to the second video graphics output of the PC. Dual monitor mode will also allow you to clone the output to support two monitors simultaneously.

Dual Monitor Hardware Setup To set up Dual Monitor Mode:

20

1

Ensure both the primary monitor and the secondary monitor to be used are powered on before powering up the PC, but only connect your secondary monitor to your computer when instructed.

2

Start by connecting your primary monitor to the first connector on the splitter cable.

3

Navigate to the Windows Display Settings to set your monitors.

4

When running Polycom Digital Signage Players in Dual Monitor Mode, the Windows desktop displaying the Player application should be the primary monitor in the Windows Display Settings, and the secondary output screen should be the secondary display.

5

The easiest way to guarantee that Windows detects the primary monitor as the desktop is to connect only the desktop computer monitor and turn on the computer. Then go to Windows Display Settings where you will see a greyed-out second monitor.

Polycom, Inc.
